  • She sounds a lot like Shirley jones

  • Edie..what a doll. My favorite Adams "sister" is the red head. I'll wager that Ernie never smoked a Muriel in his life. In elementary school, we all had our school supplies in a cigar box..so simple back then. I think my box was a Muriel or Dutch Masters box. As I write this I'm celebrating the 4th with an Arturo Fuente Hemingway Classic stick.

  • @tallpaul521 could you imagine what they would do to you today if you sent your child to school with their supplies in a cigar box?

  • @LPcustom76 They would probably evacuate the school and call in the SWAT team.

  • Very well done, and Edie is delightful.

  • She really looked like Marilyn Monroe!

  • 10 CENTS THEN IS LIKE A DOLLAR NOW

  • The brunette version got me going, even though I know that the cuffs and collars probably don't match...;-).

  • She was such a fox. What a talent.

  • Of course air pollution from petrochemicals has nothing to do with rates of cancer. It's just the demon weed, tobacco.

This is a technically amazing bit of video, and Edie is wonderful.

As for Ernie's taxes, a) he was an early tax resister, b) as well as profligate spender, and c) Edie had many opportunities to pay off the debt with help from very rich friends, and refused them all. She chose the hard road of repayment in part to buy Ernie's material from ABC.

  • When men were men and cigars were...well...crappy.

  • Love this un-PC commercial, and love Miss Adams especially as the redhead..I think I'll have a cigar..but NOT the now non-existent Muriel.

  • @tallpaul521

They're not non-existent, they still make them.

  • Just terrific

  • Oh, my god -- haven't seen this in DECADES!!!!!

    She was a lovely lady.

  • A minute-long commercial. For a tobacco product.

    The times they have a-changed.

  • Is the Edie Adams dressed in 3 different wigs?

  • Wow, only 10 cents to end up taking your life 30 years down the road. What a bargain!

  • @MediaWatchDawg

Yeah, just ask George Burns who lived to be 100. Idiot.

  • @datalord1969 For every "George Burns" there are tens of thousands who didn't fare as well. Next Sunday, visit a cancer ward or a cemetery - you'll see what I mean.

  • Edie Adams...ahhhh...one of my boyhood crushes. She was beautiful, talented and she had that touch of class that today's female performers just don't have.

  • wow that was amazing. i almost want a cigar. too bad they kill ya. still, it was great!

  • You guys notice that her last comment, at around .51 seconds, is a perfect marilyn monroe imitation?

  • @sclogse1

Don't you mean Mae West imitation? That line is a parody of Mae West's most famous movie line: "Why don't you come up and see me sometime."

Nevertheless, Edie Adams was a stunningly beautiful woman.

  • Reminds me of the Christina Aguliera video "Candy Man" where she plays a blonde, brunette, and redhead!

  • Except that Miss Adams had talent and class..close but NO CIGAR!

  • Aquilera has a tremendous voice. You really want to get knocked out, watch her live singing with Dr. John and an orchestra for her christmas DVD. Fabulous. Can't say she always chooses the best songs on her albums...But man, she can belt.

  • This makes me laugh everytime I watch it X)

  • most of what she made from these ad's in the 60's went to pay off ek's debts (irs & personal).

  • I got something for them to smoke.

  • cute response.

  • Edie Adams is so cute

  • Love it!

    Nothing beats the old ads!!

    Thanks for posting this gem!!!

    George Vreeland Hill

  • LOL! I know it's bad for you but everything around us is collapsing anyway.

  • Collapsing? Everything is finally getting better. Woo recovery, I've got a real job again. More at 11.

  • Poor Eddie, she did these commercials to pay off the back taxes that Ernie Kovacs stuck her with when he died.

  • You make it sound like he did it intentionally.

  • I think I'll go out and buy some muriels and take up smoking. I love this commercial !!

  • those girls and the cigars very phallic!

  • See Edie in her best acting job- "The Oscar".

  • By coincidence, George Burns usually smoked "El Producto", another famous cigar from the makers of "Muriel" {Consolidated Cigar}- in fact, they sponsored his short-lived sitcom, "WENDY AND ME", during the 1964-'65 season, and sent him "complimentary" boxes for years after that...Edie appeared in Muriel ads primarily because Ernie Kovacs was sponsored by Consolidated's "Dutch Masters" between 1959 and '62 {"TAKE A GOOD LOOK", his monthly ABC specials}.

  • She was beautiful. Earnie Kovacks made out pretty good being married to her.

  • so, are the 3 women in this video/commercial all the same girl??? or are they identical "triplets"??? cuz they all 3 look exactly the same, just with different haircolor!!! sort of reminds you of the first old "barbie" dolls that came out, with either "red", "blonde", or "black" hair!!! what a "trip"!!!

  • Same girl

  • Edie was a very beautiful woman. Especially with dark hair.

  • This was way before computer graphics. The special effects were probably done on an old fashioned optical printer.

  • She sure was a fine entertainer. Too bad Hollywood musicals were on the way out when she came along. I'm sure we'd have many more memorable moments from her. Does anyone have any of her appearances with husband Ernie on here?

  • there arent to many classy ladies like her around anymore

  • I remember these commercials from when I was a kid.

    God she was gorgeous

    Rest in Peace Dear Lady

  • This was high-tech for that time, with the three images of Edie shown together on-screen at the same time with no noticeable distortion or extra outlines.

After cigarette advertising on TV and radio ended, there was a period of several years when cigar ads were still sneaking on due to some loophole. I suspect this commercial might be from that time.

  • This was 1967

  • why arent there cool women around like her anymore? Try smoking one of those Muriels next to a chick today and she'd look down on you....while she drinks her Latte and gets a botox injection to hide the wrinkles

  • I worked in a backup band with Edie years ago,and she was probably 45-50 at the time, just drop dead gorgeous and every note was a pearl, and her skin was the prettiest....a quality person and talent

  • This looks like porno!

  • What?!?! Why?

  • Then you've been watching the wrong porn. This is more of a glamour shot than anything.

  • Pretty high tech for a 60s cigar commercial. Nicely done. Yes she was super fine. MMmmmmm.

  • Gorgeous lady. She'll be missed!

  • She died of cancer. Smoking did her in.

  • she lived to 81, so i don't know what point you're trying to make.

  • Oh yes! And did you hear?! Smoking cigars also killed a fellow by the name of George Burns!!

  • Listen dumb ass, George Burns was 100 years old when he croaked.

  • Exactly! I know. I was being facetious!

  • dumbass. He died from hold age, not from smoking. They didnt find one trace of cancer in his body.

  • Of course! Like I *already* said (helllloooo) I was being facetious

  • apparently facetious doesn't read well in type.

  • RIP Edie, you were one hot babe! Remember her cigar commercials on the adams family first run episodes.

  • Edie and Ernie were on What's My Line? a few nights ago. She must have been very young as I hardly recognized her..amazing. I'm smoking an Arturo Fuente "Hemingway" Clasic as I enjoy the Adams' sisters!

  • What about the Muriel cigar cowboy add that Susan anton did with Tom Selleck? The Nfl today would show it all the time.Easily thesexiest add I have ever seen.

  • There were other Murial Cigar Ads on YOUTUBE but they were quickly removed. Were the PC police in action???

I loved these commercials and guess what, even though I saw them REPEATEDLY as a good, I never smoked, but I did like the commercials. Better than seeing bank or soap commercials.

And yes, Edie was a babe......even as kids we knew THAT!

  • So it's only one woman?

  • Definition of "babe"-Edie Adams!! Yum-Yum_!!

  • More! Whare are all of the other Muriel Cigar Commercils? Edie Adams was such a SMOKIN' Talent!

  • She was great!

  • Those were the days... and she was the Babe!
