Hijack, Overlord X, MC Duke, Silver Bullet, London Posse, Derek B (RIP), Ragga Twins, Ruthless Rap Assassins, Outlaw Posse, Caveman, Monie Love to name but a few UK Heavyweights. We had it good back then. Where's it all gone... :-(
i wonder if like p diddy or what ever he is called or that kanye west ever listen to stuff like this and think ...shit ..they are proper rappers ..thats hip hop.. we are shit.
what the fucks happened to the hip hop today...after britain had this much talent back in the day, now my gran could do better than that shit they have produced these days...dizzie rascal..fuck me u have to b dizzie to listen to his crap..lol
stlyewars, hold no hostage, doomsday of rap have the hardest beats raps&scratches in hiphop history...these trax are " EVERGREENS "......stylewars made me start scratchin` and producing...thanx 4 that.....I will never 4get where I`m coming from.......D.J.Uppacut (Readykill) .....mention!!!this is not the original from88 !!! the original is much better...seemed K-Sly ran a little out of power this day...better listen 2 the "music of life" release
DAMN... when I first heard this, I couldn't believe that this came out in 1989! I'm still amazed and astonished. Some of the scratch techniques employed on this record are more impressive than many of today's DJs' ones are, and the rhyming finesse is also quite devastating... I had said earlier that this emcee sounds like a cross between Chuck D vocally and Kool Moe Dee lyrically... still a great combination. Not to mention how well he rides the beat... rappers nowadays WISH they had that skill.
Uk Dj's had a lot more originality and rhythmic elements to their scratching compared to US. I was far more inspired by UK Dj's back in the day as they had more flow and were raw. Check out DJ Mink 'Can you relate' as an example. Most of Today's DJ's are so boring and all sound the same, its actually killing the art.
I agree. The best DJs that the US has ever had have always been Jazzy Jeff and the legendary Jam Master Jay... but, in all honesty, the best of their prime cannot compete with the innovators of now... and I can definitely tell that QUITE a bit of innovation was going on back then. When I first heard this, I honestly thought that it was from '92 or '93. That's a sense of futurism that you can NEVER find in rap today. :(
Hijack, IMHO, is definitely one of the best kept secrets in hip-hop. ^_^
Oh... I had no idea. Thank you for telling me. Hopefully the original will be posted one day, if it hasn't already. I'll have to definitely look into obtaining that version.
If you are on facebook, join the group "underground uk hip-hop" - do a search for it, it will be the 5th or so group down there's a pic of Gunshot on it
THIS TRACK IS AWESOME!! Showcases the cream of Brit-hop, just a shame the Yanks couldn't get their heads round it!! It's ironic Q-Bert cites Hijack (or at least Supreme)as an influence on his style!!
how does this not show up on a standard "hijack hop-hop" search? almost certainly the best hijack track.

This is the full scratch version, not the 12" I have. Re-equed by Ice-T if I'm correct.
The scratch @ 4:13 that says Hijack is actually the words "I Got" [yanky accent]. The word "Got" dragged forward. to slurr it. IMH.
I still see one or two of the Hijack [HQ] crew about.
Genius!!!

in fairness i think Hijack's DJ's style was quite similar to the DJ of Tuff Crew - in fact Tuff Crew were quite British in their overall style.
I loved Hijack and Tuff Crew in equal amounts. 1988 to 1990 were amazing years for hip hop on both sides of the pond
