It is not easy for someone who is 60 years old to sing that way Metal. I think he is doing great. His performance in the video comes close to the glorious days in the 80's. I am only missing K.K.Downing after 40 years where he was always there.

Saw them in SLC the other night. Loved it! Rob could have whispered the damn thing and it still would have been worth the ticket, but i thought he sounded just fine.
Yes, Rob is struggling, but remember he is singing the most difficult repertoire of any HM singer, written for his amazing abilities when he was younger. A lot of Priest songs are and always have been beyond nearly any other HM singer. Look at Ripper, he's a pretty awesome singer and even he couldn't cope with the Priest vocals. Rob deserves so much respect for still having the guts and stamina to carry on after so many years. Remember, he wore down his voice over the years for us, the fans!
WTF, why does Scott Travis change the drum beat and thereby destroy the song? Where's the fast 16th-note-hi-hat? What an unprofessional drummer! He should retire if he can't play it anymore. This is a disgrace.
This one of the best versions of this I have heard and seen! Thanks, I saw them in texas a few weeks ago. It was an awesome show! This song is freakin' Epic!
I saw them Oct. 22, this year in So. Cal and I have to say how fuckin' awesome they were! Halford still has it after all these years and the new guitarist ain't bad either, although I do wish I'd seen K.K. Downing before he retired!

OMG....@2:58 INTO THIS VID YOU CAN SEE THE LOOKS, THE LEATHER, THE POSING AND GUITAR STYLE INFLUENCES FROM RANDY RHODES AND ZAKK WYLD IN RICHIE ALL THE WAY MAN......NO DOUBT.
@TheAlexismaiden - quit the band and decided not to do the final tour because he looked at it as being fake to the fans with band members going through the motions to make some "final tour" cash even though they essentially hate each other. He decided he wasn't going to get up in front of the fans and lie to them that all is well in the Judas Priest camp.
@RocktheStageNYC "he looked at it as being fake to the fans with band members going through the motions to make some "final tour" cash even though they essentially hate each other" - No he didn't, he's corrected that myth himself. It had more to do with management and future plans. He wishes Priest well and encourages people to support them; he Tipton and Halford are very close friends. He is focusing on producing bands now to help them get a start in a destroyed industry, thanks to downloads.
@RocktheStageNYC - As for not faking it through a final tour, he didn't mean that the tour was a cash grab, he meant that his own heart wasn't in it anymore and that he wouldn't be performing true to the fans HIMSELF. It has nothing to do with him thinking the band is just going through the motions but that if HE toured with them, HE would be just going through the motions. He's busy touring with his new acts now and loving watching them grow without the support of one of the BIG FOUR labels.
@TheAlexismaiden - don't believe any story you see that says KK retired. He tells the real story on his own website. I mean who retires BEFORE his final tour?
@bassmanjoe Tate couldn't sing this great 20 years ago. Bruce on the other hand manage to get his voice back after wrecking it in the 80's. He's still a monster.
@nattiep Yeah Tate's voice was best in the 80's for sure, he lost his pipes way too long ago. Bruce sounds awesome in recent years. But Rob is still my favorite, 60 years old and still doing it.
:O :O great rob halford here!! he hit those high notes like in the past,in his high pitched mixed voice...very very good to hear...this tour was his best tour since 2001
For his genre, yes ! But all the great people you mentioned are distinct on their own genre, it's just like comparing apples and melons.
Still... he deserves to be up there along with them.
Judas is the best Hard Rock & Thrash Metal band ever... They were so ahead of their time in so many ways. Painkiller proved what they can do. As for a BEST OF album, their Metal Works album beats almost anything. ALMOST :)
Still, you won't see instrumental arrangements like this anymore, sadly
@mike1cfo I gotta go with Dickinson as the best rock/metal vocalist ever. Rob blew me away when I saw Priest, but Bruce knocked me to the ground, ran over me, backed up, and ran over me again.
@mike1cfo Dude I saw them at the State Fair... THEY SIGNED MY GUITAR! We sat front row and my brother got a short video of this song(I think). Its on my page.
@Cigarrock Lol, bruce sounds like he used to? haha, yeah, mate, ok. If you means he sounds like he used to sound in 2009, you're spot on. However, he fuckin sucks compared to the early 80's. Y'know, back when he could sing hallowed be thy name without giving himself a hernia halfway through. Rob was far superior then and is far superior now, at least to anyone with a technical criteria for singing ability.
@priestfan81 Lol I can spot your allegiences in your name. Have you actually listened to this version? If you can't hear halfords struggle in the intro? I know you want to hold onto the past but hes finished. Theres a reason the mixing is fucked up for all his concerts now. The mixing is fine for the opening acts, but when it comes to priest the vocals are drowned out by the instrumentals. That is unless he is screeching. Hell he didn't sing a single word from breaking the law. Hes dead.
It's hard to understand why KK left after so many years of history in Priest! Faulkner is definitely the best replacement. But attend them for the last time without KK is like a wedding without the bride.
Congratulations for this GREAT video. Saw them in Rio and this song was definitely one of the highlights. In my opinion Rob hasn't sounded this good since the Painkiller days. The Epitaph setlist is a dream come true for any Priest fan.
@alexmedeiros2000 ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED? His voice is DEAD done KAPUT. Can't you hear the struggle in his voice? The mixing put his voice so low you can barely hear him. His high pitches are painful to hear now. I saw them today. I was so excited during every intro and then he killed every single song. He did not do a single one properly. Breaking the law? I LOVED IT WITH NO VOCALS!
WTF IS THAT GUY DOING THE SOLO FOR!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! he IS NOT priest, he does not, nor ever will, no matter playing their epitaph tour, deserve to do a Tipton solo....over Tipton
This is not the first comment on this: I've never seen Rob perform better than he did on this tour. (as a result of that?) i've never seen Priest perform tighter than this. I saw them at the first leg of the tour in Tilburg and was blown away. Having seen all Priest concerts I could over the last 12 years, I thought this one would be a nice farewell to a decaying band, instead I witnessed the best concert I've ever seen and probably will ever see. Fuck.
Rob couldn't sing like this just 3 years ago, that's encouraging . I would like to know what happened between 2001 and 2010, he lost a great part of his vocal range during this period.
@pppplatypussss You say he lost it between 2001 and 2010, the most visible part is between 2004 (listen to Sweden Rock Festival) and 2005 (Budokan)...his voice here is the best since 2001-2004 in my opinion :)
as opposed to other vids i've seen of their performance of this song. this one isnt that bad in comparison. if he sang like this each time they played. with just a little tweaking it'd be great!
I hope I catch this on a good night. I've watched a few versions of this song from the tour and about half are good like this, and about half he just can't hit the notes. Poor guy, age sucks.
@cormermusic aint that the fuckin truth! Cant wait for high Voltage, hoping to catch him in full flow. The man virtually Defines metal singing pre the "extreme" style now favoured by the likes of Lamb of God etc. I love both, but Halford in full voice is something a bit special. Like Ronnie James, god rest him...
Nice vid, great to finally hear "Blood Red Skies" live. It also shows how high Rob can go before his voice starts cracking, wish he'd lower his lines instead of pushing beyond his comfort zone.
@YngtchieMusic I've seen Rob sing stuff lower register in the present vs. higher register on the recordings (Riding on the Wind, Desert Plains) and it's awesome. I've seen other recent YouTube clips of this song on different tour dates, and Rob actually nails this one a lot better then the others (earlier in the tour).
@jtimonen let's hope it's just a rememberence "farewell" tour for K.K. Downing. (or something) And not the "farewell" tour for the WHOLE Band.
I mean, Rob still has it. But it does make sense that this is their last tour... They're getting old and I respect that. They have been around since the 70s!!
But this makes Priest more of a rare Band now. So, if they do the "odd" show near you, MAKE SURE YOU BE THERE! :D
@jtimonen His screams are at least ten times better than they were in 04...what the hell!?
How has he kept doing that for so long, it happened in the 80's too! His voice progressively got better rather than worse. Rinse, repeat for most of what we heard from him in the 90's. Same for the 00's apparently too lol!
@GTAfan421 ..Rob is a true professional, he continues to train his voice..its a constant...you cannot rely on just thinking you can open your mouth and it will be perfect. A males voice changes as age creeps in..He has adjusted and continues to work at it....WORK at it...not like some other vocalist who are lazy and expect the same results without putting forth the effort..(Don Dokken)
Priest was more than awesome, thanks for uploading!
Unfortunately I lost my cell phone during the concert (right in front the stage). If anybody has found my HTC Desire HD with a "Otter" protective cover, please contact me.
I have so much loyaltly to Rob & not the douchebag who wanna replace KK

@alexmedeiros2000 ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED? His voice is DEAD done KAPUT. Can't you hear the struggle in his voice? The mixing put his voice so low you can barely hear him. His high pitches are painful to hear now. I saw them today. I was so excited during every intro and then he killed every single song. He did not do a single one properly. Breaking the law? I LOVED IT WITH NO VOCALS!

I thought I heard they where doing one last studio album after this tour, which includes KK. Then they would only play when they wanted to live.

WTF IS THAT GUY DOING THE SOLO FOR!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! he IS NOT priest, he does not, nor ever will, no matter playing their epitaph tour, deserve to do a Tipton solo....over Tipton

Man, they need KK back...new kid's a decent guitar player, but his stage persona's balls

This was fucking awesome! Thanks for putting this up, i've never seen a live version of this!

Fuck.

dercetto 6 months ago
Rob couldn't sing like this just 3 years ago, that's encouraging . I would like to know what happened between 2001 and 2010, he lost a great part of his vocal range during this period.
pppplatypussss 6 months ago
@pppplatypussss It's a process called aging. He was then 50 and is now 60.
Loki335 6 months ago
@Loki33 What I said is that his voice is way better now than ten years ago, so aging is not an excuse :). Did you quit smoking, Rob ?
pppplatypussss 6 months ago
@pppplatypussss He DID quit actually, from what Ive heard.
GTAfan421 6 months ago
@Loki335 i guess 60 is a pretty good time for singing lol
rocknroll1343 6 months ago
@pppplatypussss You say he lost it between 2001 and 2010, the most visible part is between 2004 (listen to Sweden Rock Festival) and 2005 (Budokan)...his voice here is the best since 2001-2004 in my opinion :)

@Erikthered9
as opposed to other vids i've seen of their performance of this song. this one isnt that bad in comparison. if he sang like this each time they played. with just a little tweaking it'd be great!

Rob is amazing. But needs practice on this song. He doesnt do the epicness justice too much here.

Halford's starting to find his headvoice again.
dissimulate666 7 months ago 13
I hope I catch this on a good night. I've watched a few versions of this song from the tour and about half are good like this, and about half he just can't hit the notes. Poor guy, age sucks.
cormermusic 7 months ago
@cormermusic aint that the fuckin truth! Cant wait for high Voltage, hoping to catch him in full flow. The man virtually Defines metal singing pre the "extreme" style now favoured by the likes of Lamb of God etc. I love both, but Halford in full voice is something a bit special. Like Ronnie James, god rest him...

Priests0fSyrinx 7 months ago
Nice vid, great to finally hear "Blood Red Skies" live. It also shows how high Rob can go before his voice starts cracking, wish he'd lower his lines instead of pushing beyond his comfort zone.
YngtchieMusic 7 months ago
@YngtchieMusic I've seen Rob sing stuff lower register in the present vs. higher register on the recordings (Riding on the Wind, Desert Plains) and it's awesome. I've seen other recent YouTube clips of this song on different tour dates, and Rob actually nails this one a lot better then the others (earlier in the tour).
Stretchmeister 7 months ago
@YngtchieMusic Everything's in Robs comfort zone. According to some, Rob Halford invented the lyrinx. Before Rob, humans could only grunt.
DemonLDR 7 months ago 2
Wow, Rob is really getting his groove now, I have no doubt that he sounds the best he has since his 2000 - 2001 solo tour for Resurrection.

Rob is peaking right now. "Rebirth" is the word, not "farewell"
jtimonen 8 months ago 52
@jtimonen let's hope it's just a rememberence "farewell" tour for K.K. Downing. (or something) And not the "farewell" tour for the WHOLE Band.
I mean, Rob still has it. But it does make sense that this is their last tour... They're getting old and I respect that. They have been around since the 70s!!
But this makes Priest more of a rare Band now. So, if they do the "odd" show near you, MAKE SURE YOU BE THERE! :D
MetalGearSteel 8 months ago
@MetalGearSteel no this is their last WORLD tour. They still will be making albums and touring but not on the scale of a 18 month world tour
ozzy554 8 months ago
@jtimonen His screams are at least ten times better than they were in 04...what the hell!?
How has he kept doing that for so long, it happened in the 80's too! His voice progressively got better rather than worse. Rinse, repeat for most of what we heard from him in the 90's. Same for the 00's apparently too lol!
GTAfan421 6 months ago
@GTAfan421 ..Rob is a true professional, he continues to train his voice..its a constant...you cannot rely on just thinking you can open your mouth and it will be perfect. A males voice changes as age creeps in..He has adjusted and continues to work at it....WORK at it...not like some other vocalist who are lazy and expect the same results without putting forth the effort..(Don Dokken)
halford3256 5 months ago
@halford3256 Yeah, Dokken's vocals have really shockingly decreased as the years passed.
