the best of the best adverts ever bar none past, present or future, not to mention that those heros tht took part in the real raid probly shortend the war by 3 weeks at least, and when you consider around 300 thousend people died every week give or take in ww2 thats pritty bloody good going and thank you Sir Barnes Wallace R.I.P.
I understand even the German military were impressed with the flying skills on this raid. The Germans are actually complimented (hint of Bert Trautmann, a story worth reading). And the RAF crew sent up.Yes, civilians & POWs were killed (it was total war) but my mum was bombed 3 times by the Luftwaffe & she found it funny. My dad ex RAF Bomber Command invariable laughed like a drain at the voice of the Bomb Aimer. It's a brilliant ad enjoyed by 2 peoples who often share the same humour.
This add was brilliant. It was a parody of the great raid by 617 squadron. Reading some of the rubish written, I am convinded that some people are brain dead. Its brilliant, its hillarious, one of the best adds ever made.
I must say, this great ad is a most pleasant surprise for people who are used to their grandfathers being depicted in US/GB war movies as either sadistic killers or imbecile fools ("Oh, was that the sound of an allied glider plane just landing behind that hedge? Naw, I guess it was nothing..."). Peace to all of you.
OK no arguing please! I HAVE ONE THING TO SAY! Today is the 27th of June 2010 and we've just been hammered 4-1 by Germany. Shame we couldn't hire this guy as our goalie!
Before this raid, Guy Gibson flew in the same plane with my Father in 76 Squadron.
He was his Tail End Charlie, the Rear Gunner, the MOST dangerous job of any Flight Crew in Bomber Command. The German fighters always tried to knock out the Rear Gunner first ! I once aked him what he was like. He looked away in disgust.
He told me that he thought twice about sending me to a military school when he thought about Gibson. From what i can read, he was an arsehole.
great advert very funny....most of the those who condem it forget the 1000 russian young women pows killed on this raid....not often mentioned....and of course most killed in the war were women and children/civilians of course none of these swan around with those crappy medals on there chests.....have some respect moaners and remember all those that suffered....thanks for posting

Sorry Mike, This advert is shit! Everytime I see it - I VOW never to drink Carling Black Label, I nurse the second world War generation - Battle of Britain Pilots, Bomber Command, Marines, all the guys who sacrificed and struggled do win our freedom. This advert is not right. And yes I DO know what 617 Squadron is about, and I do not agree with this portrayal. Descent men died on this mission. We should not forget this or their example.

This is a CRAP advert portraying a PISS beer. I HATE carling for doing this, absolute sneer agains the 53 men who did not return. Only little boys who do not appreciate history drink carling black label. Drink it if you are a Chav.
Why say that? Carling contacted the RAF Benevolent Fund and the commanding officer of 617squadron to get permission to do this ad, they all said yes. Obviously you knew that anyway. You do know what 617 squadron is yeah??
I love the way that a simple beer advert can degenerate into a full-blown discussion about the political inclinations and morals of war. Ahh, if only Carling done arguments...
Best ad ever that Carling Black label. The Americans could never have come up with something so funny about WW2. Think of the German Goalie as Zenyatta and the bouncing bombs as the European BC invaders. In the ad, Zenyatta triumphs, but in reality we all knows what really happened - Rip Van Winkle!!
3rd, anyone, in any country, sitting on their moral high horse judging any other country about their past...please take a strong hard look at your own doorstep and I am certain you will find plenty of opportunity to be disgusted about what your own country is responsible for like slave trades, crusades, holy wars, empiries killing for resources and King and country. Found your own country there? Of course you did! History didn't start in 1933.
The Enabling Act (German: Ermächtigungsgesetz) was passed by Germany's Reichstag and signed by President Paul von Hindenburg on 23 March 1933. It was the second major step, after the Reichstag Fire Decree, through which Chancellor Adolf Hitler legally obtained plenary powers and established his dictatorship...
It was made by the english to make fun of our losses against the germans in penalty shootout competiotions, particularly the 1990 WC semi final in Turin.
ah, so u mean ads involving the war shouldnt be shown ???? hummmmm why are so many ads for example here in new zealand related to war ?? there is an ad for kiwibank which is kidding gestapo and allied air landings......... and btw, ya ever watched ads for the NZ or australia army ? it look like doin an adventure with yer mates but its far away from it. so ...... think about that
You "like" that commercial because it shows a 'heroic German'. My response was to your comment....... and showing a "heroic German",(so people like you can 'jerk off') in an add is not appropriate,
Maybe you should find a time machine and go back to see what it was really like, and not "what it was like" through your 'rose colored glasses'.
boy. i dont like the ad cause it shows a heroic german. the question was, why there are no more ads like that ok ? that was my response and nothing else. so perhaps u keep up reading right ? btw u didnt answer to my question about modern army ads guy......... and after all i dont need to insult others for a response. think about (repeating) and belive me I know enough about that shit time of our history
In a war actions are taken on both sides that may be cruel, heroic or any other sort of qualification. Don't judge on the side, judge on the action taken.
I find the ad humorous, but not in incredibly good taste and understand some may find it inapproriate.
I don't think it was meant to offend, but to entertain. (I'm Dutch, and our older generation generally doesn't have pleasant memories about the Germans)
theres more to ww2 than just the germans just not staying in there own borders there are many other reasons why many people were killed. In my opinion both sides are to blame but both sides thought they were doing the right thing no one can really have a proper factual conclusion to ww2 its mainly just peoples opinions so every one stop arguing because no one is right and finally its still i great ad in my opinion
Such a shame...I did a survey today on lager adverts, and they asked opinions on current Carling ads.....
The new ones are just....nothingness. Hate the lager but this ad (and the sunbed one) are masterpieces. Over a decade later and still in the memory? THAT'S advertising!

I here what you are saying, BUT....
WWII needs to be judged on the side.
Why were German's in any other country then their own ??
That is the point.
All of us need to remember what happened.
It wasn't a movie, or a video game, real people were murdered and killed because Germany couldn't stay within their own borders.
End of story.....
