can you post the links to your previous tutorials? You've mentioned that we should be refereing to the previous tutorials but i dont know where to find them...please post the links
@puvijain: Sorry, I do have a link in the description, but I have re-designed my site since I made this video and some older videos aren't listed there any more. But, all my videos are still in playlist by category on Youtube. So, just check out my channel.
@SELG88: This is just a guess, but I know that my midi keyboard is detected as an audio device even though it doesn't have any speakers on it. Check your jack settings and see what hardware it is trying to use. if it's using hw:0 and there is a hw:1 try switching it to hw:1 and restarting jack.
Nice presentation. I use Zynaddsubfx with KORG nanoKEY keyboard and I connect it with AconnectGui tool - it's simplier than Jack. It works fine, but I have a strange issue with Zynaddsubfx. When I have web browser opened with Youtube there's no sound from YT and Zynaddsubfx freezes. And I found impossible running other music tools with Zynaddsubfx like for example Hydrogen drum machine. :/ Do You have similar problems?
@Scumkill2: Only one program can access the sound card at a time. That is where jack comes in. Jack connects to your sound cart and allows any program, that has jack support, to connect to it. So, Hydrogen, Ardour, RoseGarden, zynaddsubfx, and other programs can all be used at the same time. You still won't be able to play Youtube video while jack is running.
@metalx1000 The sound card can only be used by one program at a time? That's the most retarded thing I've ever heard. In that case JACK is the coolest program ever.
Also I love how in linux everything works together because it's all free and not trying to fuck each other over with copyrighted filetypes and whatever else.
@RicorianGuardian: yup, that's how all sound cards are as far as I know. That why you have a program to control the audio on your system such as Pulse Audio or Jackd.
Yeah, it is nice. Some programs such as Qtrackor, hydrogen, jackbeat, and Ardour will use Jack for timing. Press play in one and they all start playing and keep in time.
@orpheus2046: I have not figured that one out yet with this program. I'm betting that it can, but I have not seen it in the settings anywhere. I know I can with amsynth, LMMS and Ardour. If you find out, let me know :)
@metalx1000 im using the add and remove program for ubuntu 8.04 and the text says E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
@metalx1000 i have the same problem, but i don't have jackd running and am not sure what it is. I started using linnux yesterday from windows and i'm kind of useless at this stuff so thanks for all of your videos!
@radioheadyorke: My keyboard doesn't have a build in synthesizer. I relies on an external one such as ZynAddSubFX. If your keyboard has both a MIDI in and a MIDI out then you should be able to hook both up to your computer and link your software to it with Jackd. Since I don't have that type of hardware I can't really give you step by step instructions. But, it is possible with the right hardware.
I'm not 100% sure what you're asking, but I'll try to do more MIDI videos over the next few days. I'm going to do a few videos on RoseGarden which is like CakeWalk for Windows. It will allow you to record notes played on your MIDI control. Then you can edit the notes and you can connect RoseGarden to any synthesizer, such as zyn. I will also go over how to connect LMMS to zyn.
i want to use Zyn standalone like a real synth with my oxygen 49, using knobs of my MIDIkeyboard to edit the zyn's parameters... this is very important for me :( and my band... please help me and sorry for my bad english (i'm italian) .
i'm under Ubuntu 9.04 with many programs like Rosegarden MuSE Seq24 wineasio kernelRT and others...
Would have been nice if you'd tell us what a synthesizer is. I googled it, but I figure you should've told us what it is since you're making a video on one.
Sorry, I thought everyone new what a synthesizer was. A synthesizer (or synthesiser) is an electronic instrument that is capable of producing a variety of sounds by generating and combining signals of different frequencies.

please help! my instaler keepes on showing some random text and wont let me download!
MAS68saxophone 1 year ago
@MAS68saxophone: What distro? Which installer are you using? What does the text say?
metalx1000 1 year ago
@metalx1000 im using the add and remove program for ubuntu 8.04 and the text says E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E:_cache->open() failed, please report.
but where do i report that text?
MAS68saxophone 1 year ago
@MAS68saxophone: Sounds like an install was interrupted (may be you turned your computer off while installing something or your battery died)
But, if you do as the message says and run 'dpkg --configure -a' and then try to install zynaddsubfx again it should work.
So, as you can see, it's not just random text. The error message it will tell you exactly what to do.
metalx1000 1 year ago
@metalx1000 one last question, where do i goto run this message?
ps. thanks!
MAS68saxophone 1 year ago
@MAS68saxophone: best place would bee the terminal. Should be under accessories in your applications menu. and put sudo before it.
sudo dpkg --configure -a

hay i downloaded Zynaddsubfx and pressed the keyboard=no sound
i added an effect=no sound
i reinstalled it=no sound
and i added an instrument=no effect
can you please help me .
P.S. i am running Ubuntu 10.4
jaws33321 1 year ago
@jaws33321: When you say you pressed the keyboard, do you mean the Virtual Keyboard in ZynaddSubFX or your qwerty Keyboard?
This may sound like a stupid question, but did you try and turn the Master Volume in ZynaddSubFX up? The default instrument is kinda quiet.
Did you try changing the instrument?
Do you have Jackd running, or are you running ZynaddSubFX by itself?

Summary so far: Rosegarden WITH JackD: No sound
Zynaddsubfx with 0r without JackD: sound
Rosegarden WITHOUT JadkD: Sound, but no sound in Zynaddsubfx.
In other words: for me it's either/or: Either Rosegarden Or Zunaddsubfx. Not both

When you say JackD. Are you using The GUI Jack Control and connecting the programs?
