IT will be very interesting to see what happens when RP cuts off federal funds to states for things like medicaid. THe states will be go broke and then there will be civil war. As someone from Canada with free healthcare, I can say that it's actually amazing. We get free immunization for most things, free clinic visits, free emergency visits, free doctor's visits by appointment, free non-cosmetic surgery. When you are sick, you are taken care of. If you break your arm, chop off a finger, have cancer, you are always taken care of. I don't mind paying taxes for things like this. And most workplaces have coverage for additional prescription costs. Canada rules
In places such as Australia, Norway, Canada,.. okay most developed countries, we all have universal healthcare. And we're all doing fine. But I understand Ron Paul's point. Capitalism works, but corporatism doesn't.

If it were true, then all the public workers including legislators would not have healthcare which is paid for by taxes which the people finance for their benefit. Now, if you want to say that people have a responsibility toward their health, yes. Therefore, let's incentivize taking care of oneself: with cigarette, alcohol, fat, salt, sugar and other taxes to help finance health care.

The 2nd is quality goes down, think of the DMV, the people are crabby, they don't really care, & poor customer service, it will be the same in a gov. ran hospital. @donniewn In Ron Paul's budget plan he's giving people under the age of 25 the opportunity to opt out of SS. Anyone who's paid into it will still get the benefits. That's more of a guarantee than you can get from any other candidate as they aren't willing to do any major budget cuts. Without major cuts somewhere there's no way SS could survive.

Well universal healthcare works in European countries, BUT I don't see corporations or inflation affecting their healthcare, and I have yet to see a hospital throw out someone on the streets because he/she did not have healthcare.
What do you think public education is? Millions of poor kids in America and around the world have benefited significantly in their life because of the free education they received from their country's "socialized" education system.

Free markets created corporations, then came the government giving some corporations unfair benefits = end of the free market. A market isn't free if some corporations don't have to pay taxes or get huge refunds or get bailed out etc. And the worst part is, our government that is supposed to prevent monopolies is actually creating them by injecting millions in some corporations. A real free market would prevent monopolies because businesses would be fighting in the same sector.

IT will be very interesting to see what happens when RP cuts off federal funds to states for things like medicaid. THe states will be go broke and then there will be civil war. The people will die and the states will have to choose between the bondholders and keeping people alive. It will be a complete mess. As someone from Canada with free healthcare, I can say that it's actually amazing. We get free immunization for most things, free clinic visits, free emergency visits, free doctor's visits by appointment, free non-cosmetic surgery. When you are sick, you are taken care of. If you break your arm, chop off a finger, have cancer, you are always taken care of. I don't mind paying taxes for things like this. And most workplaces have coverage for additional prescription costs. Canada rules

Ron Paul is pretty cool on some issues but on health care, he is dead wrong. If it were true, then all the public workers including legislators would not have healthcare which is paid for by taxes which the people finance for their benefit. Now, if you want to say that people have a responsibility toward their health, yes. Therefore, let's incentivize taking care of oneself: with cigarette, alcohol, fat, salt, sugar and other taxes to help finance health care.

The Free market is a fallacy .. Ron Paul is wrong ... the nature of a capitalist system is unchangeable ..it is destined to fail due to entropy .. the rich will always get richer and the number of poor will increase in a capitalist system .... there needs to be a combination of capitalist and social values in a truly democratic system to balance the resources in a fair and equitable way ...that is democracy.

@megahikerguy You sure? Free markets work. The reason the rich are getting richer now, is because of the government policies. In free markets its much harder to accumulate wealth, unless the service you provide is exponentially better than anything else out on the market. In the current system, healthcare, energy, are virtually monopolies. The barriers to entry into these markets, if you can even enter at all are ridiculous. In a free market, the best service at the cheapest price wins. Econ 101

@donniewn In Ron Paul's budget plan he's giving people under the age of 25 the opportunity to opt out of SS. Anyone who's paid into it will still get the benefits. That's more of a guarantee than you can get from any other candidate as they aren't willing to do any major budget cuts. Without major cuts somewhere there's no way SS could survive.

@donniewn You have no return on investment because SS is not an investment. Your money supports those already retired. You are hoping that the young will support your SS. The money you have paid has been put into the general fund and since we are running a deficit there is no money there now. Your SS must be in part borrowed from other countries like China for you to get SS. The house of cards is going to fall at some point. BTW - I don't support RP.

than the system we have here where we subisdise the insurance industry and allow them to bit up the costs. Just like goverment guaranteed loans allows to univerisities to bit up the costs because no matter how much they charge, the goverment will always guarantee the loan.. WE need free market in health care and education.. Free market prices mean = cheap and if you dont have money you can relly on emergency rooms and charity hospitals which the goverments shut down because they want you

Ron talks a nice history, cept its completely fictional. Ron's world where charity swoops in to the rescue when someone is poor simply does not work. The amount of people charity can help is small compare to the mass amount of people who get sick and are poor.

I live in Canada, and the cost of health insurance payed for through taxes is WAY less than any private health insurance in America. And there's not enough funding of charity hospitals. You can't count on charity to take care of everyone.

That's just one example of how socialism helps the poor. Another obvious one is Universal health care. Because of country's "Socialized" health care systems, thousands of poor people's lives have been saved.

Free markets created corporations, then came the government giving some corporations unfair benefits = end of the free market. A market isn't free if some corporations don't have to pay taxes or get huge refunds or get bailed out etc. And the worst part is, our government that is supposed to prevent monopolies is actually creating them by injecting millions in some corporations. A real free market would prevent monopolies because businesses would be fighting in the same sector.

'Free' health care ALWAYS comes at the expense of someone else. That is not the essence of liberty.That is theft of someone else's property and tyranny, in the guise of doing something for the 'Good of Everyone'. Good health comes from prevention, which is exactly what I do, not from access to a doctor.

It is worth reading for people that aren't aware of the fact that the US is and has created an empire around the world. Ron Paul talks about our empire , the fact that we have over 900 permanent military bases around the world. This book offers insight.
