  • I remember being young and hearing this song along with many other NIN songs in the DOOM wad "DWANGO5". I also remember hunting for days trying to find out who made the song (DOOM uses MIDI, so no vocals), and I remember how awesome it was finally finding this song, then many other after it. One of my favorite artists ever hands down.

  • when i realised this was a cover, that NIN rarely do if ever, then that is was origonal by JD it made me happy.

  • This version is nice, but Joy Divisions is the best!

  • i love this song:)) both bands are really awesome:))

  • I like the original version more. couldn't tell you why, but I honesty do. And don't take me wrong, NIN along with Joy Division are my two most favorite bands.

  • Trent, why don't you just go to your service provider and ask them to block their number?

  • I just LOVE how this song makes you feel

  • I think the guitars in this version sound a bit more polished than in the original.

and Trent sounds less haunted than Ian did, but the material is pretty much foolproof.

  • This song despite a gloomy lyrics, melody, beat, and his voice is so slow it becomes so ... SEXY!

  • "omg i love trout razor" a heh heh heh

  • if you do a joy division cover, please do it that way. great work by trent.

  • I fucking love this.

  • RIP Brandon <3

  • almas muertas...no estan mas que alejadas esperando...........eso esperando.... U_U

  • i was expecting this to be a sub-par cover, but this is really really good! ian curtis would be proud

  • Apparently because i like this song im a candidate for the goth dating service....

  • Better than the original... and that's saying something

  • LOVE IT!!!!

  • they used this song in the crow! great song

  • Maybe a touch brisker would've been better.

  • Excellent ;)

  • Im getting this song now!!!

  • nin listen

  • OMG its awful, they violated the song

  • @DORIOR are you serious? :S

  • @DORIOR Reznor honored the song by covering it. =P

  • Both versions fantastic, Classic Song

  • Im a huge NIN-Trent admirer. After hearing the 'original' version of Dead Souls by Joy Division, I have a few thoughts. First, This song is just WICKED! the lyrics speak for themselves. It is a dark and haunting sounding track. This sound is perfected by NIN-T.R. So I makes perfect sense for NIN to cover this song. I think JD did great for their time, before the complex synth computer powered present we are now in. Music is Art and Art is a torch passed from each generation to the next. THINK!!

  • @hiendang61 whoah, you're trippy

  • only i can say..

Cant rain all the time.. but the rain is awesome xD why cant rain all the time?!

  • @forkboy84 I would have to listen to the original version again (since I have only heard it once), but as I remember there was quite a difference...one sounded like shit and one didn't. Anyway, Forkboy? Like the Lard song?

  • I breathe and dream this song. wow love at first hear!

  • I love this beat

  • Amazing drums, amazing everything, NIN and Joy Division= amazing. 'Nuff said.

  • I did not even know this song was originally done by Joy Division until I heard their version ealier today...it was pretty bad. I'm normally not a fan of covers, but this NIN version is much better.

  • @ChlamydiaForecast joy division are an acquired taste

  • @ChlamydiaForecast You are entirely free to your opinion, but I do have to wonder about thinking much of the original. I mean there's hardly that much difference between the 2 versions.

  • You just can't help but grin ferally and get swept away by the beat of the drums!

  • Carpathians cover of Shadowplay is amazing!

  • Such beauty....

  • More dark, deeper, entertaining because that's the way Reznor wanted to make it sound, very good cover from a great band

  • great cover job

  • JOY DIVISION

  • luxusní song

  • @poilacoudre yeah.I kinda agree with you totally about NIN'S redition of this+I lobe NIN..its as flat as f*ck,lacks that raw emotion..JD's music was very influenced by the heavy industrial area they came from North Mancs..Ian Curtis..wow just a total waste,I've worked with ALOT of eplieptics+the anti epi drugs back then were so crude, massive side effects (I take Lamotrigine myself).Think his lifestyle.wanting to drink too+the drugs just didnt mix,+led to dreadful depression+desperation.cheers :)

  • @Kkktttsccchh What?

  • @poilacoudre "this cover is flat, No feelings" ...gnarf..that`s why the songs is called dead souls...mwahaha...

To be honest, I think thats clearly a matter of taste..and the "flatness" is a stylistic device,maybe?..just a guess....

The shown rope is just the coverillustration of one of NINs albums (as you can see if you take a closer look at it), not even the one with this cover version. The very bad joke would be PatrickMSAs then...

  • I've been listening to this for the last 15 years, I remember when the crow came out in 1994 and NIN was still quite new...brilliant! Fuck I sound like an old cunt and I'm only 34...

  • Que cover tan tan tan tan tan bueno!!!!

  • Its okay, it has nothing on the original though. And don't even try to argue it

  • @Vampira321

This version has more feeling to me. Mainly because it's associated with Brandon Lee's tragic death portraying another man's death. The original is inspired, but this cover builds on it to create something even better.

  • oh Reznor <3

  • DARK AND BEUTIFUL,awesome!!!

  • so dark, and vivid. It's like taking a cold bath in february outside!

  • i enjoy beating off to this song when im lonely........lol

  • The audio on this is good quality. Nice job

  • omg great track , great sound =O

  • Its adequate.

  • Nice job..they held it all together.

  • I love IAN,...trent really made you feel like they were really calling him. You know Ian had those dead souls calling him..........i heard this song 13 years ago,..and i still love it!!!

  • crow is a rather good action movie due i dont really like action movies

  • @royalnash

It's not just an action flick maybe that's why. It is quite an emotional and artistic film, not just worth watching for the fight scenes and special effects.

  • *-*

  • Joy Division actually got started from seeing a Sex Pistols concert. Then they found Ian Curtis. Glad to see Trent likes his Punk.

  • nin from sister's friend's older sister who i idolized, half a decade later parents basement differnet state computer internet NIN album of all of them this song hit me hard, bad, never forgot, replayed, of all of them, never ever forgot this song, had no idea of joy division, yes-this song does justice, springboard into the entire universe (for me), of all this one, what a shocker, is the one i could not and will never forget

  • @oderac Welcome to the rest of eternity... enjoy the ride.

  • @oderac where are you from? Curious to see what part of the world hadn't heard of JD?

  • The crow soundtrack was the best soundtrack from the 90's in my opinion.

  • @davestheman83 hell yeah dude!!!!!!!

  • @davestheman83 It is a great soundtrack, but I would give a slight edge to the Singles Soundtrack.

  • Great quality.

  • Trent really brings a youth call to this song, Ian brought a more hauting feeling in my case. Both are great! IAN lives on.

  • Both haunting... and genius

  • About the only band that could do this song and do Joy Division justice.

  • de la puta esta cancion ....k recuerdos

  • Not sure why Further Down the Spiral is featured when its not even on the damn CD. (It's on the Crow Soundtrack).

  • because for many a (no matter which one) NIN cover is more relevant than the film, which I have not even seen (but would love to)

  • @noizyme It was also on the 2 CD Deluxe Edition of The Downward Spiral (2004) Enhanced version of the album that featured a bonus disc of b-sides, rarities, and demos released in the time frame of the album.

  • sometimes.. the music doesn't need a video...

  • this track is great!!!

  • good movie, better soundtrack

  • man, this cover actually does some justice to joy division. if you compare this cover to the shadowplay from the killers, they make it sound like bubble gum pop. lol

  • I couldnt agree more. This isn't a shitty cover.

  • WELL SAID!

  • @indiebird12 I very much agree with you. The Killers' version of Shadowplay really pissed me off a bit. Of course I would probably trust Mr.Reznor with any cover.

  • @indiebird12 yea i know this is old as hell too, recorded in 95 or earlier it was on the crow soundtrack

  • @pioneer96

It must be earlier as they made the Crow in 1993.

  • @indiebird12 yes.

  • These guys have such a morbid, creepy sound. It's so awesome.

  • the killers suck a fat burnt one

  • @insaneboy683 it's actually only one guy :) but yes, so creepy its good...

  • @daniel1977munich Yeah, it's only Reznor. Creepy... lol

  • @insaneboy683 If your refering to NiN, it's actually 1 person :)

  • @insaneboy683 Its one dude trent lol not multiple guys, only multiple when on stage.

  • @insaneboy683 Guys? It's only Reznor in this track.

  • @insaneboy683 these guys is ONE guy.

  • @krzbug999 True, it's only Reznor. I found that out about a year and a half ago.

  • @insaneboy683 actually NIN is a 1 man band he does all the beats and sings but he needs help in concert :)

  • i love this song.
