These commercials are one step up from SunLIfe and Manulife ads, which are THE WORST, even for the low standards of the Canadian financial services industry. Scotiabank and TD are the only Canadian financial institutions making decent ads and conveying a continually evolving but consistent, effective brand image and message.
The other one where the two lardos are holding squash racquets is almost as bad. "Looks like I finally can retire." This one: "I actually understood that." I just dont' get it: some tart from BMO says she's a genie offers a couple trite platitudes and suddenly these guys are acting like they've been visited by a genie who can solve all their financial woes? WHat a stupid concept. Even the hidden room is bad. And what's with all these YouTube folks saying this pot-bellied greeter is hot?
This commercial looks like it was built by committee. I'll bet BMO paid big bucks for an ad agency with some very creative people to come up with some great ideas -- which they did. And then the BMO suits all sat around and said, "Well, I'm not sure we want to say THAT" and "THAT'S not really consistent with the conservative image we want to portray" and ended up squashig those great ideas so tht, in the end, they got what you see here.
