Christopher Reeve's acting was phenomenal...to go from Clark Kent to Superman and actually seem like two completely different people is pretty rare. It wasn't just the glasses either. Superman is sexy and Clark Kent isn't. Brilliant acting.
just watching this it actually looks very real like they are flying. and today all the GCI in 2011 it looks so fake and unrealistic, they cant even compare to this superman movie made back in the 70s.
@hybridman Totally agree. This is one of the most beautiful films ever made on many different levels. It's inspired me to find things I never thought I'd find in life. A shame that the politics involved with Hollywood meant that Donner/Mankiewicz couldn't continue a series and develop the characters and the story like they intended. I can imagine the pain Donner must have felt. Beautiful film. I miss Christopher Reeve. He was a sensitive and true human being and a great actor because of it.
*swoon* I remember watching this when I was 3, wishing I was both Superman *and* Lois, which is a bit odd, I'll grant, but I wanted to be a tough superhero, and be on the arm of Christopher Reeve! :-P
I pity the generation who didn't experience the feeling of watching Christopher Reeve's Superman films in the cinema! The excitement, the screaming, the oohhs and aahhs like as if we were really among the crowd in the streets while Superman saves Lois from the helicopter crash or while he fights with the 3 super villain from Krypton! The scene inside the movie house will forever be etched in my mind! I don't know if there will be another Superman in the caliber of Chris Reeve!
I understand that casting changes can never be avoided as years pass by, but i dearly hope that they will never try to have a new soundtrack and love theme! From beginning till the end of the movie,it should have the John Williams work of art all the way!
'Clark said that you were just a figment of somebody's imagination' - that's pretty Meta for a 1978 comic book movie!
What do people think, is this just a wink through the fourth wall from the screenwriter? Or is it being hinted perhaps that Superman's sensory powers are so great that he is the only one aware of his fictionality?
I so agree with all your comments esp. love the bit when they take off. For 1978 - the special FX are amazing. Wish I could've seen it in the cinema but like you - born too late!
i was born in 82 so i can only imagine what it must have been like 4 other children, teenagers and grownups at the time in 78,79 to c this come to life 4 the 1st time on the big screen.
Aladdin ripped this off

John williams kicks ass. The effect of the strings on the score, gives the movie an epic feeling while not losing sight that it's a comic book story
