you really need to change that setup sand isn't good it cant hold a burrow and wont keep the humidity high enough. your viv needs to be about 4 times the size of that one with a sh*t load of dirt to dig in and will probably need a bigger one again in a few years or a spare room, please do something about this asap
wow you cant take care of them at all, first thing sand looks cool but it does not hold nearly enough humidity for a nile monitor you have no big water bowl and the cage is way to small, and nile monitors can be tamed if you say they CANT they wont but its about trust patients and love

when it was a hatchling we sat in an empty bath with it for 10 to 15 minutes at a time everyday and as it got bigger we started using a warm room to allow it to interact with us in its own time like i said it took 4 years to get it to a dog tame state but it was worth it
@monitormike1 No offence Monitor Mike but Nile Monitors can be tamed, All Monitors can be if held enough and often I know Iv done this plenty with my nile monitor lizards and currently am tameing my baby one as well, It just takes alot of hard work and persistance.
No 2 the small room technique sit in a room with your monitor like your bath room and read or write, play cards or just sit on the floor the monitor will avoid you at first but after a while your monitor will become interested in you and start climbing all over you. even fall asleep on you, neither method is instant and both take patience but its worth it.
Two ways to tame any monitor, no 1 leave alone for long long long long time never force never touch until eventually the monitor has little fear and wants to interact with you on there terms, the best example of this method is the crocdoc2 he has not forced his monitors and just look at the results.
kick ass set, u hold him often? been trying to hold mine every day. His clam down a bit but still trys to bite getting him out of the cage. Any advise on calming them down. thanks
