  • Entspannung, Détente ... Viele Diktaturen fördern sie...unglaublich - Latvia Riga, 1976 Jahr , Dzintars Parfüms Fabrik !!! Lettland schon dann war anders als die Sowiet Union. SUPER!

  • Just curious is Sharms still around? BTW, the girl is cutie. ;)

  • ... looks like Alicia Silverstone

  • estan errados imperialistas, lo que escucho es en ruso y el comerical se hizo en rusia no en lituania.

  • I'm surprised a tune from the "evil, capitalist west" would be allowed to be used in an ad in the Soviet Union.

  • latvia, ok but the leguage is? latvian rusian?

  • so it is actually in Latvian instead of Russian?

  • the voice you hear is in Russian. the company, that made "Sharm" - Latvian

  • tasucu tasucu tasucu

  • I LIKE IT!

  • Luving' the 70's disco/electro version of Peggy sue! very Giorgio Moroder like lol! it sounds like cheesy 70's porn music

  • I'm loving the synth Peggy Sue as well! Probably because it sounds not so much communist bloc as it does Eurotrash. Definite kitsch!

  • Performed by Orchester Anthony Ventura, I have the whole album, it's all made up of instrumental covers performed in the most cheez-pop way one can expect. By the way, it dates from 1979, so this is the oldest this advert can be, not at all 1976.

  • Is this to the tune of, "Peggy Sue" originally done by Buddy Holly? Crazy!

  • Sharm . . . sharm! [winks]

  • Unless you were the wife of a Communist party official, who the heck could afford this stuff at the time?

  • Good point. :-)

  • in Soviet Russia, makeup puts YOU on.

  • Commercials in Soviet Union? How was it possible.

  • Détente, détente...many dictatorships promove them.

  • Buddy Holly must be turning over in his grave.

  • I gotta say... where's a paper bag when you need one? I've seen prettier zittier models at your local Burger King.

  • @LikaLaruku I think she is good looking.I wish she could have defected and then i could have shagged her.

  • the way she wrote that inverted circumflex over the S makes me think its from Czechoslovakia or the like

  • Latvia

  • The tounge rolling does make you feel dirty. I'm going to shower now.

  • the colors and rose on the packaging are very solviet motifs and the model looks like she's kind of had a hard life (the rough hair and skin, not to mention bags under the eyes)- a wonderful revealing look communist era beauty!

  • Who knew dark undereye circles were SEXY? I must be living in the wrong country.

  • All the tounge-rolling in the brand name made me feel dirty.

  • there is no winking in the ussr!

  • there's an official website of dzhintars, the maker of sharms. http://www.dzhintars.lv. and according to the website itself, dzhintars began making perfumes since 1849 in the Baltic States.

  • give me some vodka, now!!!

  • huh - Isn't this . . . capitalism?

  • Most likely, it was a state-run company.

  • No, seems like it is a comercial for an imported (from Italy or France) cosmetics.

  • Love that "Peggy Sue" soundtrack.
