One issue with rapping in Chinese is that Chinese is a tonal language, unlike English or other European languages, or Mongolian and Turkic languages. So it can be pretty difficult to rap in it, and the product can sound pretty weird. I think that is one reason why Jay Chou mumbles his lyrics. Chinese rappers are continuing to experiment to find a better way to rap in Chinese. I think if they succeed, they will create something unique!
