people should stop moaning about the equipment. Nothing is wrong with this little camera. i've used e400, e500, 450d, 550d, and now using this e620. they are all good. they all have ups n downs. Nothing is wrong with the screen, u get more noise at higher iso but i personally like it. It's perfect for B&W. Stop moaning and keep shooting guys. it's only a tool ffs!
I cant guage from this video - just how good is the liveview? i mean, i understand its not quite as good as the 500D, but is it bad, like i found the low price level sony's? or is it decent enough to be used regularly like the 500D? what i'm trying to figure out is if its worth spending more on a 500D for a fixed screen which is decent, than saving a bit but getting a useless liveview due to a bad screen.
this guy does the best reviews that I have ever seen a real set of examples of use and form , btw this is a great camera, if you cant get good pick your doing something wrong
Nice review as always. Your reviews made me conclude in buying an e520 a year ago. Now i would like to tell me if its worth it upgrading to a 620. Thank you again for another realy good review.
I am going to buy my first dslr, after 2 years of film slrs... I am Olympus fanboy :D I love my OM-10 (its not the best camera, but...) so I am thinking about E-620 and E-520, but E-620 is already 1 year old. I am afraid that Olympus could throw out a new entry level body... and im in same place as last year, I cant do anything, but then again E-30 has bigger body, but price... AH...
Olympus offers incredible bang for the buck cameras, awesome kit lenses. The out of camera IQ is the absolute best in it's class with the e-volts. I'm so glad I gave them a try about a year ago to accompany my Canon arsenal :)
Do the Canon Rebel Xsi and Olympus E-620 fall under the same category of DSLRs? If so, which one is better? Plz comment asap.. gonna buy in a day or two..
i have purchased Nikon D5000 after researching for 1 month....reason ...
Oly ha dbetter kit lens, which outperformed canonikon lens at lower ISO...these guys r innovative, remember they came out with 1st live view and good dust remobal system...oly comes with inbuilt IS which was important for me as I am transitioning from PnS to dslr....better tilt and swivel screen than D5000...good value for money and good color....D5000 has HD and performs better in low loght...
I dont click much in low ight...and even if I do..I will do processing in RAW and do some post processing...Video doesnt matter to me....build of Oly is better than D5000 as mentione din various reviews...including cameralabs....and u know whats cool art filters and glow light on the buttons in oly...helps in low light or night
im also stuck between these two cameras, and dont tell me to go to your website to read the full reviews, just tell me which one i should get nikon d5000 or olympus e-620
Sorry, this is my full time job and I don't make any money unless people visit my site and shop at the stores there. If I relied on the money generated from YT, I'd be broke overnight.
@cameralabs Well said, moreover its personal choice about choosing Cameras. . . . you are a great help always, When it comes to reviews . . Thanks . . . .
Good review, but does not say anything about battery life and compartment and storage options. Battery life is important for enthusiasts and professionals alike.
I am now stuck between NIKON D5000 and Olympus E620, one has HD (which is added bonus and can really be helpful....you dont have to buy a separate HD cam for videos. On other hand E620 have inbuilt IS....too helpful since any lense would work with it.
I've been reading reviews and they say that this camera doesn't have a video function, but on the website of where I purchased this camera, it says that it does have video recording. I'm so confused. Does it have video recording or doesn't it?
If you do not like the art filters, dont use em. You're not paying for the art filters. Most serious photographers wont use them. They will edit their photos in photoshop. Simple as that.
Oh I know why YOU described them, but I was talking to the people who were saying the camera wasn't worth getting because Olympus chose to include art filters.
Movie mode should not be on a DLSR. It's just not a compatible market. I'm afraid when I have to buy a new body it will be impossible to find one without movie mode. So that'll just be another wild feature I'll never use. No one make a normal camera anymore.
the art effect filters are dumb. I wish olympus would forget about them. its very gimmicky. So I think I will go for the e-520 just for that reason. Plus the price on the 520 is really good right now. then I will upgrade to the E-3 or next model by the time it comes out. Imagine what the flagship will be in a few years to come. The E-4. Ooooooooohhhh!!!!
Thanks for your great reviews. I have a question and would like you to steer me in the right direction. I want to upgrade from superzooms. I am handicapped and will mainly use the dslr on a tripod, enjoy a wired remote, only in live view. Shoot mainly landscape and nature and in good light. Is the 620 or g1 two of my better options? I like fast autofocus. I am not sure how many long lens options i would have with the g1. Should i look at others also? Thanks and keep up the great work.
A good review as always. I see the video is overexposed when showing the LCD. A bit more ambient lighting will probably be better for that part of the review.
Cheeky! You do know there's been a review of this camera, along with the Canon 500D / T1i and the Nikon D5000 at cameralabs . com for several weeks, right?! Remember I always do my written reviews first at cameralabs, and not everything gets a video review. So always keep an eye on the cameralabs front page!

If you're only shooting in Live View, then i'd recommend the G1 becuase it's meant to be used in Live View all the time.

If i shoot with 3:2 aspect ratio will the view in the viewfinder be 4:3 or 3:2? i.e. are the another aspect ratios only suitable for LCD shooting?
Alfredson007 2 years ago
The viewfinder only shows the 4:3 composition, so yes, the wider aspects are for shooting in Live View with the screen.
