I just bought a 1911 .45ACP and people kept saying you just learn how to make your own ammo... Watching this video I seriously can't believe how easy you made it! AND it actually looks very fun and rewarding to do the entire process by yourself! Amazing! And now you got me looking at buying the equipment!!
A+ video, Clear and very informative! Wish all videos on here were this great!
Thanks for posting that. I just purchased a LoadMaster in .45ACP, and I've already destroyed the case slide and the guide rod. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but I'm going to order the new parts and try it again. I also had a primer explode last night as I was trying to prime a case, not sure why. Scared me, and my cat is still clinging to the ceiling! :)
Would like to see more videos on detailed set up, Lee's instructions aren't that great. Thanks!
@traviscarter21 Mine came with everything but the consumables and the digital scale he was using. Lee sends you a simple but deadly accurate beam scale, You can order it with or without dies. If you want .45ACP your order that model. 9mm etc.
Is this going to be your first reloading press? If so, do yourself a favor and get a single stage press instead, and learn what it takes to reload. I DO NOT recommend starting out on a progressive press, too much going on at once if you're not sure what you're looking at. If you have already been reloading, pay attention to the case feeder.. I broke t mine within the first 200 rounds. Might be better not to install the case feeder and manually feed the cases for a while.
You can't compare a BMW to an accord. Both will take u to the same destination. Is dillon "the best"? Yes. I currently have 4,000+ rounds I reloaded with zero fuss on my pro 1,000's.
Love the review it has some great information... Two questions what exactly needs to be changed between reloading .223 and .45 acp as far as the press goes what parts need to be bought separately for each type of caliber because I've seen these units sell with a specific caliber kit already installed but I don't know what exactly id be buying to be able to reload both .45 and 223... Also you said cost per 50 rounds averages out to 8$ not including the brass correct that's really not bad it's mo
Just bought a Springfield Range Officer and looking at getting into reloading. I am able to get stuff at dealer cost (my grandad owns a gunshop). But looking at the price of primers, power, and lead, it looks like it is almost the same as buying 200 factory rounds for $98.36. Am I looking at the prices wrong? It's a hard questions to answer, but how much are you able to save if Magtech 230 grain is 24.59 for a 50 rd box? Sorry so long, thank you
@coltsglock - if you run the reloading costs calculator on Ultimate Reloader (left bar, under info center-->Tools) - for 45 ACP, you'd be looking at about $8.00-ish per box of 50.
That does not include equipment, and assumes hardcast bullets, your own brass, etc.
Hello. You have a very informative (clear & concise) video & a very nice set-up. I am new to this realoading & have not yet decided on what model of Lee product to purchase. I have subed to your channel & plan to watch & see all there is I can learn. If there is any advice you can think of for a very beginner I would appreciate you passing it along & if any question comes up - with your permission I will ask. THX. Sincerely, JAMES.
The Lee Load master looks reliable and easy to use, based on your experience is it worth for a first time reloader to go to a dillon xl650 for 350+ dollars?
Reliable it ain't. I spent a long year fighting to keep a Loadmaster running. Everytime I used it wound need tweeking just to load 25-50 rounds. Finally gave up and bought a Dillon RL550B and have been a happy camper for the last six years.
Nice video's. Which progressive do you like the best as far as ease of set-up,use and quality? I'm going to be buying a progressive soon and was wondering which one you could recommend. I will be primarily reloading 30-06, .308, and 45acp.
OK...I tried the LoadMaster...got through about 500 rounds...it had to go. Kept jamming up...sheared off the little black primer feeder finger...it failed to index and I snapped off my "unbreakable" Lee universal de-priming die decapper pin I had even watched every vid I could find on YouTube...all the setup tweaks.,etc...polished primer bolt...polished primer feeder ramp...etc...but it jsut would not run consistently. You get what you pay for. Hornady Lock-N-Load AP on the way.
@kidslife101 Well, since you chimed in...let me elaborate. It is not a matter of "figuring out" this machine. You shouldn't have to "figure it out"..the machine should work flawlessly with no fuss - just like my current Hornady Lock-N-Load AP does. I have a few thousand rounds through the Hornady now, and trust me, there is a night-and-day difference in quality as well as reliability. The Loadmaster, in comparison to the Hornady, is junk. I'm sorry your reloader is junk.
I'm looking to upgrade to a loadmaster but I prefer to de-prime then clean the primer pocket. would there be any functionality issues with this press if I was using already deprimed brass?
I'm fairly new to reloading and I'm curious to why you crimp your bullets? I have a 'Classic Lee Loader' and in my instructions it says, "Do not crimp .30 M-1 Carbine, .38 ACP/Super, .45 ACP, and 9mm Luger. The headspace on the end of the case and crimp would be harmful." Is this something to do with using cast bullets? How do they shoot?
@ferks60 Thanks for the feedback ferks60. If people want to ask questions, the best place is on my website - can't answer all threads from YouTube, my site, and FB.
@gavintoobe i just recently purchased my first 45, and i am curious at what point it becomes less costly to reload your own ammo than to purchase it. as i understand the set up for a good reloading station like your can cost hundreds. how many rounds do you need to reload before you are in the green?
Hi i have a few questions about reloading. How much would you say it costs you per .45 acp to make? just one of them? and how much does the Lee Loadmaster cost? and what is the dyes or dies whatever they are called and what do they do? thanks
Is there a reason why you shake the primers on the primer tray or could you just use the plastic tube and pull them individually out of the plastic package?
I really appreciate the video, I'm thinking about getting into reloading and this machine is awesome. I also thank you for conducting yourself in such a clinical environment and manor. This attitude helps give the rest of the gun owning community the perception that most of us really do deserve. Thanks man.
could somebody explain how the auto powder disk thing works and what i should do to get a sufficient powder charge in some 230 grain Lead round nose using some hp-38 powder. THANK YOU!
@Shifty45ACP Read the manual and follow the directions. Multiply the quantity of powder you need times 0.0926. That will be the volume in cubic-centimeters required. Then, following the directions again, install the proper disks to give you a charge volume for said powder volume.
would you recommend the Loadmaster? ive heard allot of mixed reviews of them, would it be worth it to pay a couple hundred dollars more for a dillon 550?
@GearFamily i load rifle but i use my single stage for that, for pistol atm im using a lee classic turret press, i shooot about 200 rounds of 9mm a week but thats going to be picking up when i start shooting IDPA in a couple weeks
Great video! What kind of stand setup is your press on? I'd love to see exactly what you've got rigged up. It appeared to be "rock solid" during the whole operation. Thanks for the video! Ken
Nice vid! I have about 14k through mine and after getting past some quirks it runs great. Would you be able to see if the RCBS bullet feeder works on this machine? I'm worried that the powder measure system might be in the feeder's path.
What a great quality video and you do a wonderfull job of explaining what is happening with the press. I would second Chagasrod's request on the powder measuring unit. There a a lot of videos for the lock N load powder measure. If you could go over the setup and how to change the amount of powder throughs. I am new to all this and just getting my Loadmaster set up. I am very nervous about dealing with the powder loading system. Thanks for taking the time to help all of us beginners!
A year ago to buy this machine and adjust maintenance and knowing, no par gives no problem. A LEE certainly money, and the Load Master Lee, both the engine and spare parts are cheap, so it is very good buy.
A few days ago I acquired also a Dillon XL 650, this is too big, no doubt if you want quality has to be a DILLON, is more expensive but once you get to make the refilling of cartridge you realize the difference in work one to otr.
