  • @uday234 Itna to jhoot mat bolo mere dost. Delhi metro accha hain, lekin tum yeh bhi to dekho ki Hong Kong MTR is much older and it looks better too. Naturally some technologies are a bit older but they get upgraded.

  • The trains in the Delhi Metro are on par with the Hong Kong MTR and the Singapore MRT but I believe that the stations of it are somewhat downmarket compared to the places I mentioned earlier. This does not mean that the Delhi Metro is dirty, what it does mean is that overall, it is not as modern looking/visually appealing.

  • I have no idea why but Indians get far too competitive in terms of infrastructure so much to the extent that they even start claiming that theirs is far better than places like Hong Kong. I am Indian and I have seen both sides and this is certainly not the case. Infrastructure is getting world-class in India on a grand scale. However, this does not mean that it is better. We need to quit being obsessed with trying to be better than others and we should try create safe and world class things.

  • These things happen everywhere I am a fan of the metro and and sreedharan

the delhi metro is a piece of art i have been in the hong kong metro also and i am telling you the delhi metro was much better than even that.Problem is Congress and bjp both care only about the number of zeroes in the swiss account

  • @uday234 Oi, I completely disagree with you and I would like to say that the Hong Kong Metro (MTR) is far superior to the Delhi Metro because their services, ridership and leadership is are much better than that of the Delhi Metro. The Delhi Metro is indeed a very good job but the fact remains that the MTR is still a leader and NOT the Delhi metro. The MTR also follows very strict safety procedures and consultation procedures meaning that they make no mistake in what they do and no fatalities.

  • @shree711 Ek aur baat, aap zabardasti mujhe ye mat accuse karna ki India ko main hate karta hoon. Aisa bilkul nahin hain, aur main yeh maanta hoon ki Delhi

Metro ne bahut accha kaam kiya hain. Bas main sirf ye keh raha hoon ki MTR uss se kahin zyaada behtar hain.

  • sreedharan ji ,aap bhi curropted logo ka shikar ho gaye ho.

  • Can you imagine if this collapsed during the Game sin 2010 !!!! What a shameful and embarrasment event for Indians who cant even have a decent infrastructure !!! Shody work and cheapness always results in Disaster

  • This is why we build trains UNDERGROUND

  • Underground constructions don't collapse? Just last November, 21 people died in an underground subway tunnel collapse in Hangzhou. In fact, accidents happening in underground construction sites like mines and subways tend to lead to more casualties.

  • Everything in china is collapsing, bc they don't CARE, they just build to impress besides everything in china is built by the government and life doesn't really have value in China, as we can see from the Uighers and Tibetans. OVER HERE in INDIA when 6 people die the country weeps. This shows the difference albeit many people still die in the INDIAN RAILWAYS but well... that too is government operated... Should say something about the PUBLIC SECTOR around the world... btw BMRC is private

  • DMRC is not a private sector group. It operates autonomously, but the money still comes from the state. The autonomous status is one that Sreedharan demanded and he had to fight for it.

  • That's not true, the money is from LOANS and the company strives to make a profit. Sreedharan has nothing to do with politics and he was not votes in any elections like mamata banjeree. It's Delhi Metro Rail Corporation PRIVATE LIMITED!!! Yes it's autonomous from politics, therefore it is private sector... more like a Monopoly bc it aquires land as well

  • "Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), a joint venture company with equity participation from Govt. of India and Govt. of National Capital Territory of Delhi..."

Enough said. Sreedharan's bosses are Shiela Dixit and Manmohan Singh. Why else would Dixit, a politician, have to reject his resignation if DMRC wasn't a PSG?

    "the money is from LOANS"

Huh...so? Know of any nations that don't borrow money from banks? What's the World Bank for then?

  • Yes, i know several... in fact most public institutions run on TAXES

There is a STRICT dividing line in how Delhi metro is run, there is NO government involved for the Delhi metro, the only thing is that the DMRC is under permission of Sheila Dixit. Otherwise NO politics involved. PPP is another word for privatization, which is GOOD. This is nothing like the State-owned Indian Rail as well as state-own NYC subway, where it is managed by the state and funded by taxes and political meddling.

  • I agree that DMRC is run like no other public sector group. However, it took someone of Sreedharan's alacrity to fight for it. In its developmental stage, it did face hurdles, one of it being the issue of the spacing between the tracks, i.e. gauge, between DMRC and Indian Rlwys. If it was a private company, that issue would've been moot.

  • I'm going to assume you are an Indian, and i want you to realize that privatization is helping India. INDIA was destroyed by government over-control and the Delhi metro is only successful bc the GOVERNMENT has no control, or very little. We need to move into that direction: towards free markets and less government. We have been, but i'd like to see it faster

  • Yes, I am Indian and YES...I do sincerely agree that private sector growth MUST be allowed and it has been in the past decade. I suffered through years of Govt. run ineptitude in the form of the electricity board, telephone services, etc. However, THAT DOES NOT MEAN that when I see a Public Sector group like DMRC that sets standards in efficiency and quality (save for recent instances), I immediately call it what it is not- a private company.

  • It's a private LIMITED company, only to be limited by the government of course. I would say it's 80-90% private like the new Banglore airport or the hyderbad, or the delhi, mumbai private takeovers of the airport. It's funded mostly by private banks, operates for profit, one of the only few metros to do so, constructed by private contractors and development teams from around the world, managed as an autonomous entity, very little politics involved.

  • I also do want to add to my last statement that a strictly privatization/capitalistic model also has its flaws. One just needs to look at the corporate lobbies in USA and see the extent of corruption the private sector possesses. If you must know, this metro disaster's guilty party is Gammon-India, a pvt. company. It's THEIR contractors who failed to act when notified of imminent dangers.

Sorry mate, pvtization doesn't always mean good.

  • NOW THERE YOU ARE WRONG!!! Capitalism is very good, the lobbies are only bad if the POLITICIANS buy into it!!! Capitalism is very very very very very good, the US is just not pure capitalistic anymore. If it were they would have no taxes and no social program like in the 1800s when the US was a GREAT COUNTRY. It remains to be a distorted capitalist form. Better example is Hong Kong, Estonia, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, New Zealand, Ireland... Maybe UK during thatcher

  • No, YOU'RE wrong in understanding me. I never said capitalism is bad, but laissez-faire capitalism is. Read Upton Sinclair's Jungle and see how the meatpacking industry was ignoring existing regulations and that novel single-handedly spurred stringent measures of quality and safety in the food industry.

  • Laissez-faire capitalism is Excellent, it's what the world needs right now. google ron paul. google milton friedman, hayeck, rothbard, etc etc etc

If you don't believe this, then you have nothing to say about economics

  • "If it were they would have no taxes and no social program like in the 1800s when the US was a GREAT COUNTRY"

Now I am getting vibes that your stance is so vehemently biased against social welfare models that you're ignorant. Why else would you include Switzerland, S'pore, Finland, NZ, Denmark, in your list which follow socialist-democratic models? In case you didn't know, these nations rank highest in education, low-crimes/corruptions, and scientific research. Do some research, mate!

  • Yes, i HATE HATE HATE socialism, and these countries got all these nice things FROM BEING capitalist. the more laissez-faire they were THE FASTER THEY BECAM DEVELOPED

  • Unlike you, I don't take sides. I don't care who runs things AS LONG AS THEY RUN IT RIGHT. DMRC showed that a public-sector group (yes, that's what it is...period!) could adopt strategies espoused by the corporate sector and succeed. It's unfortunate that people like you have a parochial view of such things which, I can safely assume, is derived from ill-formed opinions based on propaganda machines. Be more open-minded.

  • Look at history, it will tell you that UNCONDITIONAL FREEDOM for all people is good for people and good for economy. This is pure economics we are talking about, and it has been studied: freedom is good. Some may call is laissez-faire, but it works. In that sense you may call the TRUTH a "side". It may sound unpopular, but what is right isn't always popular. I stand on the side of the truth, and freedom works for the world. India is a socialist country, and therefore is not free economy

  • most of the money comes from japanese banks

  • Sir, be a man...dont quit like a loser.

  • Good step on his part.

It shouldnt be accepted, and he be made to look into why he fucked up.

A new guy wouldnt know as much shit abt the job right away.

    The resig is unhelpful.

  • Sir,we salute your integrity!

  • Resigning is perhaps the worst thing to do in this situation. Stand up and taking responsibility means understanding the issues mitigating risks to ensure that this does not happen again. Resigning is perhaps the easiest way out. Stand up and take corrective action man. !!

  • Very Gentle man,but no need to resign.
