Conservatives need never admit to anthropogenc global warming. It is an article of faith. Furthermore they have a staged defence that goes like this:

1. The climate isn't changing

2. Alright the climate is changing but it's nothing to do with humans

3. Alright it is to do with humans, but there's nothing we can do about it

4. Alright we could do something, but we mustn't until China and India do more!

5. OK so they are doing more..but er..jobs, LIBERTY!

How much of the planet have we covered with concrete and asphalt that traps heat? The number one greenhouse gas is water vapor which is emitted from every internal combustion engine. Wall street can't make trillions in the concrete and water vapor derivatives market but if they can convince you to hate CO2 chaching.

The whole enviro-friendly thing is raising the price of gas and making them more money. And distracting us from real issues like corporate pollution. I'm not saying it absolutely isn't happening, but regardless of what you see on the news it's still a theory. One that's being exploited. Maybe we should look into possibilities that the warming of the earth may be cause but THE SUN. Just a thought. Don't instantly assume all skeptics are dumb asses. climate change does exist. the issue seems to be the CAUSE of it. some say it it's only greenhouse gas emissions, others it's only the sun pumping out more heat.

what if the ecological system is a complex system and simple explanations won't work. is it possible thta BOTH gases and solar energy contribute to warming. and lets us not forget we just came out of a mini ice age a couple 100 years ago. the climate warms and cools in cycles. sure we don't HELP the situation, but we don't CAUSE it.

@37butterflyprincess quickly: ECOLOGY is our weather system in action, a good analogy would be to compare the earth's climate to the respiration of a human being. The weather patterns are the way the world breathes. Chaos results suggested that the beating of  a butterfly's wings in the Amazon today could literally effect the intense storms in any given location tomorrow. Thus, an incipient change in a highly complex climatological system could have wild, and CHAOTIC results elsewhere.

Of course climate change is real. It has existed as long as the earth has. It's a natural thing. Nothing to be worried about. Or make any new taxes because of.

Of course climate change is real. Indeed, we're a hundred years overdue for an ice age right now. But to blame CO2 for the effects we are witnessing is worse than junk science. i consider the whole carbon-regulation thing a scam and a distraction from the REAL eco-disasters and calamities happening right before our eyes, such as rampant deforestation, the pacific garbage patch and the toxification of the oceans and air with REAL pollutants, animal factory farms, Monsanto, oil spills etc etc etc

@teleomorph Sorry, but denying that CO2 is to blame is the real junk science. The right-wing has achieved exactly what they wanted - they just gave people seeds of doubt so that we would have arguments like this one. But you're right that all those other catastrophes also need attention.

@LeeCamp2 No he's right, Methane is a more threatening 'climate' as in temperature, as in gre3enhouse gas concern than CO2. If CO2 levels get too high it will displace the lighter oxygen we use to breathe and suffocate us long before global warming kicks in unless we start farming hemp like we have a hundred years of black cancerous petrol infections because CANNABIS FIGHTS CANCER. It's not that CO2 isn't a concern. It's that they've hijacked the truth to give them a strawman to kick over.

@paradoxfox93 I know methane is more harmful than CO2. And yes, factory farms cause more global warming than cars do. However, factory farms are - wait for it - manmade. Furthermore, the methane currently being released from the melting tundras in Russia is doing so because of the global warming that is already happening. So the release of that methane is - wait for it - manmade. But I will agree on this level - it doesn't matter. It's happening. We need to find a way to deal with it.

@LeeCamp2 Fully agreed. That selfsame methane can be used to fuel our cars and produce CO2. That selfsame CO2 from both cars and farm need no extra method to be recycled into oxygen photosynthetically via the fastest farmable converter. Guess which plant that might be eh?

@banksiaone Yes, it is true that the sun is starting to put the Earth into another warm cycle, but in history those sorts of changes have happened slowly over thousands or millions of years, allowing for species to adapt. This time it's happening at a super-fast rate.
