@lflarry1 yes i think so,i like ashkenazys version best, this is the third movement of the moonlight but beethoven did'nt ascribe names to his sonatas others did to sell more copies, maybe if she' been more serious at the beginning she would'nt have fluffed so many notes?
its about time we hear the 3rd. many dont know what it is coz you always think of the 1st movement when you hear "moonlight sonata" this is the best part of the song.. it uhh ROCKS! haha
Hmmm... I dont think you can really sight read that piece, she probably knows the piece, but just has the sheets there to help her fully remember everything. I don't know if i explained that right, but i think she is half sight reading, and half memorising.
@PianoManiac101 This may surprise you, but people such as Mozart, Chopin and Liszt would have been able to sightread something of this difficulty level with ease. (Quite scary!)
@samuelishmedia Hehe, thanks for the insight! (this is my other account, i.e. pianomaniac) dont think I could read anything that difficult for the first time, and get dynamics, and key signatures correct: id be lucky to hit the right notes! Maybe the reason for me being so afraid of sheet reading that, is because the speed it's played.
I think it says on the ragtime press website that although you often see Sue Keller playing without sheet music, she is brilliant for reading sheet music as-well
I don't like it. For once, it's slow. Kempff's version isn't that much better either. Although he puts something extra into it. Playing this piece without mistakes would almost be a shame. With the natural speed of Presto Agitato mistakes are almost inevitable. Kempff does this in a funny way, because he looks confused and almost scared, while making a few mistakes here and there. That's how I'd like to hear it, with a sense of feeling. Sue may have it, but she ruined it in other ways.
Yea, if all you know about the Moonlight Sonata is the first movement, then it's not the Moonlight Sonata. For everyone else, it's the third movement of that piece. Albeit a butchered version
Those hands were made for early 20th century ragtime-blues music. I still love her though.

Normally sue is very good. But...you gotta be super brave to even attempt this.
Maybe she should given this one a pass?

WOW! I do believe this is possibly what Sonata Quasi Una Fantasia (moonlight) would have sounded like had Mozart written it! Nicely done.

Don't like this. For the finest versions try Claudio Arrau or John Lill.

is she sight reading?

Actually, this is Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. It's just the third movement of it. :P

Let's see you play better.

Não basta saber a partitura e ter toda técnica musical
Nessa sonata, ainda mais nesse movimento tem que tocar rigidamente conforme o SENTIMENTO da partitura.
Listen to this same song played by Kempff. It´s the closest way how to play this piece.
I just tell you: Presto Agitato.
See ya
