Brabus tuned a 500E W124, but the more common was the E500 Limited.

Also, the W124 6.0 was a V12, effectively two of the 3.6 engines put together and it produced a lot more than 408 bhp...

Just to let you know mate, Lotus actually built the cars at their factory in Wyndoham they have a 3.6 ltr twin turbo straight six and a zf corvette 6spd manual, thats the main reason they carry the lotus badge, hope that helps. I wasnt trying to be a smart arse just helpfull :-) Oh yeah and Vauxhall's where badged as Carlton and Opels were badged Omega

The engine in that Carlton is on cold start - look at the amount of exhaust vapour. Can't tell if the BMW is or not, but the Carlton would be quicker when warmed up.

Also, racing on cold start is very bad for an engine.

Absolutely agreed about the Lotus Carlton. It was my dream car for years and I would still take it in a heart beat. fastest 4dr saloon of its time, 3.6 liter twin turbo, corvette ZR-1 6spd trans (which i'm actually unsure about being a good or bad thing), and a top speed in the 176 range = definitely not a car to be messed with. I'm just much more of a bimmer nut at heart. I still drool over em, but sorta came to terms with the fact that I am very unlikely to ever own one in the states :(

Appearently according to one book I have, the ZR-1 was the worlds first car to have a 6 spd... and haven't bee nable to find anything against that transmission.

But when the E39 went into production the Lotus was already 5 years dead, you needet to have a M5 3.8 with an huge Turbocharger to beat it because BMW werrent as Aerodynamicle as Opels or Audis at the Time. Remember the Omega had an Topspeed of 310 Km/h (205 mph) and the BMW is limited to 250 kmh (155 mph)

To evojoerocks: yes I agree whit you the Alpina apears to be slower car: the Opel has 4valve per cylinder vs BMW 2 valvle makes 50% of the success, also the Opel is 3.6 BMW is 3.4 Actual, Opel has modern Close ratio 6 speed gear box huge diffetence makes the onother 50% of the success,BMW has old school 5 speed gear box makes the car not fast. I dont thik you can make on 2nd gear it a close ration and all the gear are shorter I dont say you cant but I will belive it when I see it :)

Lotus Omega goes over 300km/h easily. The Alpina B10 is fast too, but when both cars are stock it doesnt stand a chance against the Lotus. No way the Alpina is quicker between 250-300km/h. We drove +300 back in the days, 4 people in a Lotus Omega, and it hits the 300 mark very quick. The gearbox in the Lotus is a a masterpiece from ZF, 2nd gear goes to 140km/h and 3rd gear reaches over 200km/h. It is a very rare and very fast car. Quickest Limo of the early 90s. Nice comparison and nice track!

You seem to be an expert. What's wrong with my ride. When I hit 6500rpm in fourth and shift into 5th it takes off for a moment and starts missing. Won't let me better 122mph. It has 200.000+ miles and is actually an i. But the manual says it will do 132mph. new belt and plugs. What's wrong. Please help. I would of had an audi 2.0 turbo if it weren't for this problem. CIV

the e30 rules dont let her go! what you mean starts missing? dont worry about how far it's run as long as you have reg maintenance it should run forever. make sure you have on intake leaks (gaskets, hoses) also that your fuel pump is still stong. clean you air filter (or replace), 02 sensor also. (this tells your car how much fuel and air to mix) a bad mix will tke out power.

Starts missing like it's speed limited at 122mph. I hear air leaks and I was told by someone else the fuel pump could be weak thanks.

Anyway the 325IS came with stronger anti-roll bars. This is a huge difference when driving the car. You can tell right away. I used to have one but wrecked it at 130mph.

I'm taking it kind of easy with this one. Took me a long time to get it back and is the only style BMW I like. Thanks again.
