The determination of the winning horse to stay in the lead was noticlble through the body language the horse presented during the race. Over and above the aggressive behaivior if the other horses. The horse was trained at a higher intensity level and that became evident to my viewing after the race reached the half mile area. The horse has been managed at a superior level.
that and a speed favoring track couldn't hurt. This year's Illinois and Arkansas Derby's were extremely biased. Still, there are some things to like about American Lion even if you downgrade both he and Yawanna Twist.
Compared to 2009's win by Musket Man, this race looks especially weak. No one turned in a performance worthy of note other than the winner, who was throttled down early, responded gamely to his only challenger, then drew off in eye-catching style. Albeit in apparently slow time with a perfect trip. American Lion may have a bright future, but it doesn't appear to be prudent to jump on his fortunes right now for the Kentucky Derby.

American Lion really needed this win today in the Illinois Derby to pad his earnings resume' for the 2010 Kentucky Derby. I'm just not 100% convinced he has what it takes to go 1-1/4, and beat horses like Eskenderya, Sidney's Candy, Rule, and Lookin At Lucky. Especially if he tries to do it from the front end. He'd have little to no chance of winning the Derby trying to take on the likely front runners. If he's to make any noise, it must be from a stalking position, and hope the others tire. IMO
That is what they said about War Emblem when he did the same here and took a similar route to the derby. But you are right his fractions were slow and he is going to have a tough time being the pace setter in Kentucky. But ya never know we'll have to see post positions, etc... Who would have thought mine that bird last year right>?
Race should be at arlington..polytrack there is alot nicer..if only arlington was open earlier in the season

BackTalk really proved himself worthy of his name, his shaking head and balking gait was hilarious. he was definately talking back to his jockey.
American Lion will do wonders in the Kentucky Derby this year can't wait to see him run.
