  • Oh this one just takes forever to get down pat and you've certainly got the rhythm right. Sounds just like the record. It just goes spastic toward the end. At least the bass is very simple and you just don't have to think about it. It really does take a very long time to get it to speed. And when you get done playing it you go, "WHEW!"

  • Can you explain left hand ? ;]

  • im now getting out of my piano room for the next 10 years until i can do that!

    AWESOME!

  • Great performance. Love this boogie. You inspired me to learn it. It's going to be my next project.

  • This video made me depressed, man. I will never play like that in my life. Excellent job, though, congratulations! You're awesome. ;)

  • @AurumVenator wrong attitude it should inspire you to keep trying, you'll get there dude!

  • this is hard, i cant play the left hand and right hand together because of the left hand tune, lol

  • awesome!!!

  • nice!!!

  • ncie job

  • FANASTIC JOB! Note perfect. That one is a booger to play until you play so many times your fingers just automatically go where they are supposed to. Takes a very long time to get that sucker up to speed.

  • fucking.... epic......

  • M azing

  • Wow! Fantastic rendition! Heard this tune years ago by someone called Joja Wendt and never forgotten it. Just seen a piano similar to yours on here with Winifred Atwell playing Black and White Rag. How about Bumble Boogie next?

  • This one really rocks-terrific!

  • holy f***...

  • always nice and impressive to listen again. great performance.

  • i have an keyborad piano i believe their called, its old no idea what to set it on to make that kind of sound but allas i couldnt play it if i tried, any helpful ideas or what kind of piano that is or such ?

  • Are you looking for an acoustic piano or electric keyboard?

  • Still watching your video from time to time cam =). I have given up on this piece for now, in stead my piano teacher is teaching me overall boogie woogie, and i can already play some freestyle! I'll post a video sometime and when i do, i'll tell you. Thanks again Cam!

  • Hey Julien,

Great to hear what you've been up to...I think that's a great idea learning some overall Boogie woogie. Doing that will enable you to learn almost anything you want...Dive Bomber is probably not a piece you want to try and learn when you're starting out with boogie woogie or a beginner..

Look forward to your vids! Please tell me when you post some :)

    Cam

  • i have no interest in this type of music at all but actauly seeing it created like this instead of just hearing makes it much more enjoyable! your very good, thanx for posting!

  • Well thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed watching it...much appreciated!! :)

    Cam

  • How do you learn these? Sheet music?

  • Umm only some of them...

  • you make my try play piano,do you want how to play honky tonk train please.i very like the way you play.

    have a nice day

  • krasse sache schon geil wenn man so spielen kann

  • Watched and almost learned (that's a lie but I'll get there!) your boogie woogie stomp lessons and am still impressed by the simple but really effective way you teach how to play these tunes, many thanks and keep 'em coming!

  • No worries mate...glad to help :)

  • hey could you teach me that so i could play that in the talent show this year?

  • Hey mate, I'd love to but I live in Australia.. :s

    Cam

  • someone knows when this song was writed?

  • February 17, 1944

  • It's great to have such a gifted boogie teacher, I watched your "Dive Bomber" slow version, and it took me 2 hours noting all the fingers on my sheet music, that I received from ColinDavey in US.

Thank you for your performance, and keep cool playing that way !

Georges from Paris, France, not so far from Australia, via the Internet ...

  • No worries...glad to have helped you! :)

    Cam

  • bloody hell! it must have taken you AGES to learn that part in the right hand! i play the piano, and can imagine how long that must have taken! fair play! oh and one more thing, although it was amazing anyway, i think you could squeeze one little glissando in there, just to make it that tiny bit better! haha nice one! x

  • Haha yeah it took a while! It's one of those songs where you gotta be in an energetic mood to play it. Thanks for the comment mate...nice advice I'll try and work in that glissando..will be fun! :D

  • haha i look forward to it!x

  • you should do more pete johnson songs..Im more on the albert ammons..we would have to meet some day and record some songs would be awesome..how are you doing? still busy with work? Im of for 4 days in germany, some nice gigs see you buddy bye Eeco !

  • Yeah mate that would be amazing!! We will meet one day!!! :D

I'm ok thanks...I've been looking for work for ages now...getting a bit desperate lol! :s

I'm also practicing lots for an audition into a Bachelor of Jazz degree either at Victorian College of the Arts or Monash university..hope I get in! :P

I hope Germany was fun! :)

    Cya mate,

    Cam

  • hey hey hey! wow! Never heard a better Dive bomber version! You really studied Johnson's tune. It's perfect!

Who is the great pianist, who is playing?

    Greetings from Boo

  • Haha why thank you Boo! :)

  • Class! Talent and technique. Some boogie at its finest. You classically trained? Something happens at 2:08, an unwanted C sharp ;-) ? I'll be nicking some more snippets of this tune, man, thanks a mil for the great video and the cam's bird's eye view

  • Hey thanks mate! I am classically trained :) Yeah at 2:08 I didn't like the last part so I did another take :P

You can take whatever you like! That's why I did the birdseye view ;)

  • Although it may seem quite obvious, but I find it quite intruiging that you play in bare feet

  • Hi Elaine: I have to smile...the bare feet are charming. So human.

  • Haha yeah I do a lot of things in bare feet :p I find it more comfortable :)

  • Wow, great! It HAS got that swing ;)

  • Haha thanks mate...yeah always gotta keep that swing going..never let it go!

  • You don't miss a beat. Well done. Tempo is perfect for this tune. Rocks on and on.

    douglas......Los Angeles, CA USA !!!

  • Thanks Douglas!! :D Yeah it's my favourite one to play when I'm feeling energetic!

Glad you liked it, thanks :)

  • Hi Cam This Is One Of My Favorite songs You have done, But please what are The boogie Notes For Left Hand On This And Boogie Woogie Stomp. Thankyou If You Can Help. Keep Up The Grate Work.

  • Why thank you! :)

    Left hand for:

     Dive Bomber: C C Eb C G C A G Boogie Woogie Stomp: C C Eb-A C E-G C F-A G

    Hope this helps!

    Cam

  • Thank you Cam in Dive Bomber I was playing with E insted of Eb and in Stomp on the last G I played with an E.

Just a slight change and the songs sound better. Nice work, hope you get some time off to post more videos soon. All the best

  • Hi Cam, please try the Boogie Woogie Stomp with this Bassline: C C Eb-A C-E G C F-A G (this is the Bassline from Albert Ammons):-)

  • Hey! Yeah I've tried many variations on Ammons' bassline...and swap now and then...and I've found the one I use sounds the best for the effort required lol ;) I'm pretty sure he originally uses C C Eb-A C-E E-G C F-A G...

  • That's fuckin' bitchin'

  • The score for the intro is avaible as a PDF of examples from

    boogie-online[dot]at/Examples.pdf

    Replace [dot] with .

the "at" is as written not "@"

  • Pete, Albert and Eeco AND NOW CAM...this sort of talent only comes around once in awhile...you CAN'T learn this..you either CAN or you CAN'T Cam and Eeco CAN!!!

  • Haha hey there! Thanks so much for the comment :D

I'm looking forward to playing with Eeco! :)

  • this is the very first time I hear this wonderful song. Pete Johnson is the name to

    remember.

  • Yeah he's a bit of a legend! :p

  • This is note perfect and just brilliant.

Don't know how you mic ur piano but this is a great clean sound.

    Real quality. Thanks!!

  • Thanks! :D

It's only a little built in mic on my sony digital camera but yeah it's a surprisingly good sound lol!

  • thats the best dive bomber in world wide web

  • Heyy thanks mate.. I appreciate it :)

  • i am that drummer pure 1108 loves he gave up because ur lesson is 2 fast haha lol nice playin tho

  • i didnt give up gez im startin in feb u lier!

  • Hi,you play a piano faster then I can follow your fingers!

  • I have seen other videos playing this song....I like your speed.......perfect.

By the way...Your lesson video of this piece is missing one section, isn't it?

I am trying to learn this piece anyway..

    Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks :)

Oh yeah it is missing a section :(

I'll see what i can do about it..

  • The song would sound even more incredible if you got a new piano instead of that old tatty thing:)

  • cool I love it, keep pumping out more great songs like this.

I want a boogie style song every month from now on chop chop:)

  • Thanks mate yeah i've really gotta get more songs up :s

I like my piano though...a new one would be nice but i think its got character and suits the style :)

  • your lesson iz hard:(

  • I thought the reason you weren't wearing shoes was because you might want to play with your feet, too! Anyone who can play this well probably could!

  • Hahahah thank you very much! I wish I could play with my feet too!

  • Aaaarrghh if I played this with my drummer for the music competion for my school I would win instantly. Nice playing. The only hard bit is learning your long hard lesson for this and playing it 5 times faster... AARRGGHHH. How long did it take for you to learn this?

  • Hey thanks, took me about 6 months to get it up to speed i think... yeah I'd love to play it with a drummer! :)

  • thanks im 13 could i do it in 7? :S

  • I could listen to this all night, lady godiva from me

  • Haha thanks, glad you like it! :D

  • Haha lolol! Wear shoes... That's a good one. Didn't even noice that. I was looking at your hands all the time man! Good one pal! Keep this up. I Love Rock&Roll on the piano, i hope you can tell me where to download this sheet music so i can practice this one too!

  • Haha but it was hot you don't undertsnd lol its Australia...

Anyway thanks I will keep it up I love it :)

you should find an e-mail waiting for you

  • Hehehe, well i don't mind at all. I understand cause it's hot here too sometimes (not very often though).

  • you should really wear shoes when doing these videos.

  • lol, why's that? It was a hot day :P

  • heyhoy

really liked ur video well done and good speed! Also cool Piano. Do you have notes ( i also sended you a pm:)

  • Hey thanks! (I sent a reply)

  • Sweet piano mate..........

  • Thanks!

I'm getting it tuned soon :)

  • u make it look easy but it probably is

  • Maybe I "ate" some words in the previous comment....I meant to say that the great performer can do hard things appear to be "easy" to do when in fact they AREN'T. So...Congrats!

  • Lol that's ok thank you very much! :)

  • Great performance! You play like it was a easy thing to do.

  • Thanks mate!

Really does it look easy? It certainly didn't feel easy lol :)

I was in a great mood and very excited that day which makes such a difference in my playing.

    Cam :)

  • He's right. You did make it look actually just sp easy.

P.S. Why does the camera angle randomly change at 2:07? I guess it wasnt so easy...=P

  • Lol yeah I wasn't quite happy with the way I played one of the rolls in the right hand so I just played on from there and joined them up later because the first part I was really happy with :P

  • Hmm, I just heard this song in midi format before I found this. Its very well done. Good job. Pete and Albert live on yet!

  • Thank you very much! :)

    Do you play any instrument?

    Cam :)

  • Im an amateur at Boogie Woogie piano actually. Trying to learn the whole of either Stomp or Swanee river. The left hand is causing me problems however.

  • Oh ok good stuff!!

What's troubling you with the left hand? Timing? Syncopation??

    Cam :)

  • Both of those, and also,

Im used to just picking things up from video games and what not. The rhythms on those are usualy just simple chords. Im having trouble making the switch to the boogie-woogie rhythms.

  • Yeah I'm doing that all throughout 16-24. But I'm modifying the 1st chord to E-G-C, adding an A after the first chord and leaving out the C not the (D).

Sorry about the late reply - my comp. has been at the repairers :)

    Cam :)

  • I love the sound of your piano and your style. cheers

  • Thanks mate! :D

  • Lol yeah don't worry about getting the right hand in bars 16 to 24 perfect note-for-note, just play something that sounds similar that suits your hands, even leave out the grace note if you have to.

    Actually I found it too hard to do note-for-note so I modified as follows: where it goes E-G-A-C G E D-C C-G-C I changed it to E-G-C A G E D C-G-C.

As for the rest of the page I'm afraid I don't have any advice except practise!

  • About 95% of it is true to the sheet music. I modified some parts I didn't like to sound more like the original recording :)

  • That's ok I'm about that slow too :)

Lol my piano teacher was the same I had a really tough time trying to ignore boogie woogie!

Keep at it mate, post a vid when your done!

    Cam :)

  • Lol wow!! Turkish march :D It's great to experiment like that... you should post a vid of it :)

    Well done!

    Cam :)

  • Unbelievable!! I've heard the original recording many times, and you nailed it pretty darned well! Not bad, considering it's physically impossible to do that... GREAT job!

  • Haha! :D thanks mate!

Just takes practice...and I was feeling unusually energetic that day :)

Do you play piano or any other instrument??

    Cam :)

  • I have just started again on organ, having found a small 1989 Yamaha organ on Craigslist recently. I'm just a home "hacker" (but with a sharp ear... I know good playing when I see/hear it, and you've got excellent skills!).

Years ago, I actually got a few chances to play pipes; the most famous organ I ever played was the big Wurlitzer at the Oakland, CA. Paramount.

  • Wow...what a great experience that must have been!! :O

What sort of style do you play on the organ? You should post some vids :)

    Cam :)

  • I don't even have a video camera of any type, so videos of me won't happen...

Besides, I suck, playing-wise. Just started fooling around again after 10+ years away, never was all that good even back then. You are about 500 times as good as I ever was, to give you a reference...

  • Style... Hmm.. hard to describe, unless you've heard a theatre organ before... try searching "wurlitzer" on here and check out some of those videos... That's more or less the style I WISH I could play :)

  • By the way does this video work on your computer???

It won't stop saying 'loading' on mine and won't play

  • Try playing it together really slowly first with a basic easy left hand...maybe something like C-G C-G C-A C-A C-G C-G C-A C-A...

Let me know if it's any easier :)

  • Yeah I know what you mean. I used to play a bit of ragtime too.

You'll get there, it's not really as hard as it sounds, you've just got to have a good sense of rhythm.

  • No worries mate :)

    Have fun!

  • Oh, man! I must hear this song again and again.

I wait impatient for your next stuff :P

    Thx for sharing thisone:)

  • Lol...thanks mate glad you like it!! :D

Sorry about the waiting...very busy with my engineering course! - not much time to play piano :( I should have something up soon - almost finished learning another one called Sweet Patootie.

    Stay tuned! :P

    Cam :)

  • Thanks for the feedback! :D I'll keep the camera angle.

Oh yeah I learnt Maple Leaf Rag a long time ago - great piece! I've been playing piano for about 11 years now in total, started boogie about 3 years ago.

    Cam :)

  • hey there - did you read my mail?

  • Just stunning playing, accuracy, timing, everything just perfect! then I noticed you play with bare feet, tried it myself, didnt improve my playing, damn it!

  • Thanks Stan!! Thanks for the feedback :D

Lol...I never noticed I had bare feet in every video...it's alright, I can play in shoes lol. Yeah I think it was warm that day too!

Do you play boogie woogie? If so you should post some vids!

    Cam :)

  • Great!

  • Thanks! :D

  • Lol that's ok Jesse, thanks a lot for the comment! I'll probably start learning Jesse James after I finish Sweet Patootie by Ammons. Thanks for the suggestion! :D

    Cam :)

  • Really really really wonderful. I enjoyed this a lot!

  • Thanks mate! I'm really glad you like it! :D

    Cam :)

  • Magnifique. Sans doute l'une des meilleures vidéo boogie sur Youtube. transcription parfaite

  • Wow thank you very much Jean-Pierre!! :D :D

    Cam :)

  • simply the best boogie piano ever seen here on youtube, congrats !!!
