Beautiful talented lady but the dance is SO STUPID. I doubt very much it is an Egyptian dance or anything related to the Middle East and do not believe it is even remotely close.
This pre-dates Steve Martin's equally camp "King Tut" number on SNL by 10 years. One wonders if Eden did this -- note the camera angle in the last few seconds -- as sort of a backhanded protest over not being able to show her navel on Jeannie.
@joe12544 No, genies come from all places in the Middle East, but Iraq is known for the first ancient civilization, Mesopotamia.. They made *Jeannie's* character come from there...

Ditto Hollytaplin called my cat Jeannie. I wasn't convinced the spelling was right for the feline however, so I changed it to Genie. Sadly she never wrote it down. :(
Yeah, it's pretty amusing about the fade-out at her navel, here. George Schlatter, producer of "ROWAN & MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN", wanted Barbara (as "Jeannie") to appear on the show, in a special introduction: it was supposed to end with a "pinhole" spotlight on her navel. Well, "I DREAM OF JEANNIE"'s producer, Sidney Sheldon, objected to Schlatter's idea [as did NBC], and she never appeared on "LAUGH-IN". What you saw here was as close as you would EVER see her belly button on TV, in the '60s.
In January 1966, in an interview about "I DREAM OF JEANNIE", Barbara admitted to an Associated Press reporter, "Baby Elephant (meaning herself) isn't a dancer. When I dance, it's strictly for comedy." She didn't have the confidence to attempt a "seductive" dance routine when she initially became "Jeannie". By late 1967, however, she was able to replicate one during her big production number as "Lalume" in a TV adaptation of "Kismet". That, in effect, led to this tongue-in-cheek number...
rare to me. I loved her as a child. Silly dance tho. fun for the straights. I work with belly dancers. Its all about rep. Im sure she took a few classes and could pull of a gig. Ove ya Babs

She is one of the most adorable hot babes of all time.
Thanks for sharing.
I couldn't stop smiling.
I, too, have dreamed of a Jeannie...
But the one I've got doesn't look like Jeannie but has the same shape as Jeannie's bottle!?! I LOVE her, still. :-}

As far as sex appeal goes, Barbara Eden at this time is about as hot as it gets.

This is fun. It's very funny that someone had the idea to fade out on a shot of her navel.
