  • This is awesome... even the instrumental version is epic... makes me wonder what made them do it... Epic Instrumental + interesting vocals = epic win...

  • cool! this si really good :D

tarja would have done this really well though

  • Splendid :X

  • It's not bad, but I don't think Jonsu is as good as Tarja.

  • Well there are other singers too.

  • I just love Jonsu voice and Nightwish insrumental. Good combination of :Guitar, Bass, Drums, Violins, Flouts and last of all keyboards that Toumas plays so beatiful that gives Nightwish those sounds :D

  • Is there an english version of this song???

  • Jonsu doesnt know english lol

  • If you could somehow convince Annette to sing it, I think it would be quite good... but some songs that get translated into English sometimes don't sound as good once you understand the words.

  • i like this video a lot

  • I do prefer the instrumental version. I do prefer Anette's voice but most of all, I prefer Tarja's voice!

  • I like the instrumental version a lot, but Jonsu's voice adds a lot to the song. I love it. PWNAGE!! This song is pwnage and epic!

  • i love this song :)

  • I still love this song ^_^ Freaks out my friends when I wander around singing in Finnish, but it's worth it.

  • Hahahahaa...

Hope they dont think that you are speaking satanic tongue to invocate demons....

  • Empä tiedä tästä... Ihan hyvä on jonsun ääni tähän. Mutta pelkkä instrumentaalinen on kaunis. :)

  • I loved the instrumental version, now I love this. Incredible.

  • I prefered the instrumental version before, but now I fell in love with Jonsu's voice <3

  • Kaunis laulu...

  • What is the unstrument they use in the intro ?

  • Its a violin but before violin are also keyboards

  • Uilleann pipes are also used for some of the lower sounding whistling timbres, although it seems the singer has replaced a lot of what this instrument did in the original version. You can actually see the Uilleann pipes being played in the "The Islander" music video.

  • very good XD

  • Jonsu + Nightwish is lovelyy... Though this might sound better with Tarja, but this very good. (I like Jonsu's band Indica as well, so...)

  • I always find myself singing this song when I'm happy. I'm not sure why, perhaps because it has such a lively rythm.

Unfortunatley, as I don't speak a word of Finnish, I can only do the first verse! Then it all goes so quick and I lose my place. I've got the lyrics but I've had to start breaking them down phoenetically and I hate doing that because it involves dissecting this beautiful song.

  • amaranth has 18 million clicks

    this one 36 thousand.

wtf is wrong with the people? =D

  • Don't judge a song by it's video clicks please, it's like I'd say to a new song that just has been uploaded or wasn't tagged correctly a lame song.

  • That's amazing! I love both versions.

I'm currently (Attempting) to learn Finnish, and I understand none of that so I have a long way to go!

Erämaan Viimeinen = Hyvää (Correct me if I'm wrong with the Finnish)

  • I'm in love with finnish too and I can understand only a little of this language xD I'm going to be better and better mwahahah]:->

And I think it should be hyvä not hyvää, well, I can be wrong too ^^

  • Radeqq3 is right :D you can use the form when you for example say that food is delicious etc. :D Hyvä is enough in this case :) Good luck with your studies ^^

  • I really like this. Jonsu's voice is very good to this song. But I still prefer the instrumental version. :D

  • i think she says Erämaan Viimeinen at 1:51... other than that i dont get finnish in the least, i have enough trouble with french lol

sure sounds like a pretty language, reminds me of a japanese song at the beginning of an anime song lol

  • she says erämaan viimeinen all the time (in the refrain)^^

  • buena jonsu, esta version es mejor q slo instrumental

  • Does anyone know what the words mean?

And I think I just fell in love with Jonsu's voice. XD

  • Do you not say it? xd.., But Jonsu voice is best....

  • This song has WORDS?!

  • Haha, yep... They only released this version as a single in Finland though.

  • -_- yeah and lyrics too...

  • I was being humorous. No need to be an ass, =/

  • lol sorry I thought you were serious ^_^

this song also has a curse..(not like a bad word like a spell)

  • i think they're both not bad but tarja could have sung this so much better...nightwish ain't nightwish anymore 'cause anette´s voice just doesn't fit to their old style...

anyway i love the song...but i like the one without lyrics more...i just love the irish sound in it...^^

    sry for bad english^^

  • This isn't Anette singing >_>

  • i know...i didn't say that^^

  • it's Jonsu

  • Amen:)

  • man your english is actual perfect congrats man :)

  • really??? well i'm just wondering 'cause i'm only a 14year old austrian^^

    thx man^^

  • Might sound like an irish sound. But it's actually finnish folk music you're hearing.. There are much similar between these but still.

  • let's say...the nordic sound^^

  • But this song features prominantly the Uilleann pipes, definitely a traditional Irish instrument.

As a fan of both metal and Irish traditional music, I think this is an awesome combination.

(The pipes are definitely more evident on the instrumental version, though -- this version replaces the harmony on the pipes with the vocals.)

  • I love the sound of those pipes. I kinda hope I can play them myself someday...

  • sweet voice...

    is anette singing??:-/

    :>:>:>

  • no this is Jonsu from Indica

this song is so pretty, i love the finnish language, i'd love to learn it!

  • Wow, really amazed that someone wants to learn finnish language! :D I'm finnish, u see. :3

But I think that this one is in instrumental. I don't think Jonsu's voice matches with music and Nightwish anyway. Still, I love the sound of her voice. This is just not my fav. I like this track very much, sounds great without words and that irish-theme.... <3

  • i love the sound of the language, i think its beautiful! i'd love to go to finland one day. :D and the song is wonderful, imo, with and without the words.

  • kowaku do you know any website that teaches basic words in finnish?

i don't think i will find any finnish teacher here so that's why i ask.

  • no jonsu from indica(finish band)

  • ha!

  • I love this song, I'm working on a translation into my native language, swedish. =D but I wonder what they sound like in english...

  • I love it. She has such a unique style - no cookie cutter girl here.

  • God, how do I envy countries where most people like this kind of music...

  • "Eramaan viimeinen on.."

"In the last of the wilderness.."

  • Aikas hyvä muttei ääni aivan riitä.

  • This is cool ^_^

  • WOW, the finnish lyrics add a different element to it. but it keeps it traditionally finnish. well done Jonsu, and of course Erämaan Viimeinen, or Last of the Wilds is a terrific song with and without the words

  • lol wow

  • I was talking to one of my friends about this song the other day, and just from the speed of the song we agreed that Tarja might have trouble singing it. But don't get me wrong Tarja is a great singer (in her style of singing).

  • That singer is Jonsu from Indica.

  • Great song, like it better than the orginal

  • why should there be?

  • annete(lead singer) is swedish

  • yeah but she's just a singer nevertheless. Should they make swedish versions of all the nightwish songs now that Anette happens to be swedish? She's not even singing this song. I did read a rumour somewhere that they might have a swedish song on their next album..(?)

  • I know its not Annete singing this song.

I persoanly do not think they should make swedish versions i just said because i think thats were 'youwishyouhadmysn' was coming from.

On the other hand, even though most of them are finish (used to be all finish) they dont have many Finish songs.

I wonder why? probably because the lanuage isnt very commen.

  • I didn't think even for a second that you'd be unaware of the singer not being Anette. Jonsu sounds completely different from Anette. I was just making a point. And if we can trust youwishyouhadmysn's profile information he/she's american. Many finnish metal bands prefer singing in english... Maybe that's because they want to be international and get as famous as possible xD

  • sorry. if i sounded rude i didnt mean to be.

i agree about the singing in english. im lucky they do that as thats the only language i understand lol. im english/irish.

  • eheh ^^ It's okay. But there are also bands that sing in finnish and they are doing pretty well internationally :D But I also have to admit that it's a lot nicer to understand the lyrics than just listening to the melody.

  • I agree :)

  • it's easier to do vocals with the common western musical scale, some of the other languages words(like finnish) can just get absolutely insanely long, and it makes it harder to get music to go around it.

  • hmm... an interesting point you have there... But Tuomas was still able to make this and Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan beautifully in finnish :D So I really doubt that he has any difficulties to produce songs in his own native language if he wants to no matter how long our words can get sometimes...

  • actually i got that from alexi laiho, who talked about it. Nevermind that english is the trade language, so you'll be able to hit a wider market.

  • can't even*(sorry for typo)

  • indeed, this isn't annette, she even can't sing in finnish!!

  • This is not Anette.

  • tarja could have sang this so well...

  • Nice change from the original instrumental version.

  • I don't like the tone of the singer... :S Finnish language is so beautiful and nordic! hahaha it seems like japanish in sound!

But i don't like the singer... =S I prefer "Kuolema..." song...

  • This is an example that finnish can be a beautiful language.. Not only an exotic one..

  • parece chino xD

  • wow i love this!!! good job!!! the words sound so pretty even thought i don't know the translation.

  • This song rocks with or without vocals, no matter in which language it's sung.

  • I love the version without the singing, because that is what i got on my CD, but this is great too!

  • I love the version without the singing, because that is what i got on my CD, but this is great too!

  • cette version est super belle aussi aveec la voix c super agréable a entendre

  • Ok, I just have to say that I just fell in love with this song. It sounds so amazing in Finnish. Nightwish made a good call doing this. \,,/

  • this is the best song from the new album, I think. And it's not Annette, the singer is Jonsu.

  • can anyone translate me this song please? :)

  • I have the english translation if you want it ^^

  • The wilderness sleeps, and now, in my thoughts I travel over forests, sleeping water Lady Moon lights the nigh sky Paints a landscape, to northern shadows Is this a dream? Or death where i can return to the place where embers already give up under the snow As i enter the world, the time of wilderness First snow fell twice Painted the panting of my soul cont.
  • This rugged beauty and infinite loneliness

    my childhood forest, sky

echo the longing through this journey

As the morning dawns, night tells it's story

Rugged is beauty and infinite is my loneliness

that one desires for its soul(i really cant figure out this one)

The grave of my cradle, the place of my grave

is the last of the wilds

    cont.

  • Where did the others dissappear

    swamp's witches, maidentowers

    and sighing trees in shadows

I planted a Lily into eversnow

and after the silence came, I trusted to what is oncoming

    First snow fell twice

Painted the panting of my soul

  • This rugged beauty and infinite loneliness

    my childhood forest, sky

echo the longing through this journey

As the morning dawns, night tells it's story

Rugged is beauty and infinite is my loneliness

that one desires for its soul(i really cant figure out this one)

The grave of my cradle, the place of my grave

is the last of the wilds

  • ty for the translation :)

  • thank u :D

  • no problem =D

  • It was my fav song from the album already, but now its my fav song from NW. Nightwish + Indica FTW

  • Fucking hell her voice in that rythem is great. I nearly beleved her to be Antte until i listen harder. Tarja and Antte are great but i think Night mae a good move with her it sorts it much better.

  • she is not anette

  • Yh i no read again (the end bit about the lady singing)

  • Tää ois ollu hyvä biisi ilman tota Jonsun vinkumista.

  • is that Anette? Sounds....strange

  • no.. it's jonsu from the band indica guest singing

  • fuck - until i found this vid, i always thought that call of the wilds is one of nightwish greatest songs but lacking a voice

    - now this makes it one of the best songs ever - Jonsus voice is matching perfectly, giving this song a playfullness neither Tarjas nor Anettes would have been able to...

And i love the sound of this language - - finnish 4eva

  • I totally agree. The language, the country --> AWESOME! Still want to live there!

  • It's not Anette. Its the lead singer from another finnish band named Indica :P

  • Its FINISH!!!

  • Sounds Japanese lol

  • It's OK, although I'll be honest, I much prefer the original instrumental version.

  • Yeah it's Finnish :)

  • does food make any sound lol?

  • chinese food? xD.. *strijk vant lachen* x"D

    lol xD

  • hedj jij weer xD

    simply love it!!!

  • I love this song

I have tuomas' autograph from when they came here for a concert

    XD

  • *dead on the foor*...oh you lucky lucky person! :D

  • -w00t-

    =D

  • me too :) where in Canada did you go? I went VIP in montreal and quebec

  • Winnipeg

    =D

  • I am responding witha different acount because I have two

    =P

  • Oh, this isnt Anette singing? I still like it, though.. very unique.. Must check out this Jonsu person. Thanks for uploading.. :-)

  • she is the singer from indica, they're good

  • this song has finnish "folk" song written all over it... no one else but Jonsu should sing this. I don't mean to be stereotypical, I just find this song beautiful and Tuomas meant it to create this feeling :) LOVE IT

anyone know where to find this single because I've asked my grandmother to bring it from finland but she's unable to find it :'( help please!

  • i love this song, i think she sings it so nicely :) maybe soon i will be brave enough to sing it publicly ;)

  • i don't think she ruined the song. i can't imagine anyone else singing this song. Jonsu is what makes it unique and interesting...its a beautiful song

  • Now someone speaks thing, nearly every else thinks this is ruined NO this is good Tuomas do not make songs what really sucks.

  • I hope I didn't offended anybody, it's just my opinion.

  • It's like-feat. Jonsu

  • btw this is amazin song, and jonsu really sings this so well :/ beautiful...

  • Jonsu's voice sounds soooooooo cuty n_n

I love this song, its so significant.

i think i will hear this song in my head for months^^

    Nightwish & Tarja 4EVER!!!

  • anette is from sweden not finland

  • i love the way she sings! its so different!and she always seems into it

  • this is not anette ok, its Jonsu from Indica. this doesn't even sound like anette.

  • i hope they make a video about this! this song rules!!

  • this song has great lyrics! it tells about a lonely traveller, who travels thru the Finnish forests. Then this traveller stops to wonder the beauty of his/her fatherlands nature, and the words say how he/she describes it. I would translate the whole song, but my english skills arent that good.

  • Whoah thanks man!

Btw this song sounds interesting hehe.

Maybe it could be used for an anime opening? XD

  • THIS SONG ISN'T SANG BY ANNETE. THE WOMAN WHOM SINGS THAT IT'S FROM THE BAND NAMED "INDICA" SEARCH IN YOUTUBE "INDICA Erämaan Viimeinen"

  • <,< this isn't anette^^...it's jonsu :P

  • Yes, this singer really isn't Anette, she's Jonsu from Indica, as others are saying.

Believe me, I'm finnish, and I know.. Anette is swedish, so she can't really speak finnish..

  • Your reasoning is dumb, and insulting other people doesn't help either. I am from Poland and I can speak English, for an example. The same might go with Anette and Finnish. And even if she can't speak it, it is not so obvious to other people, silly.

  • english is becoming a universal language...so thats not so much an example as Anette speaking Finnish cause Swedish and Finnish are contrasting languages...not saying she cant but it wouldnt be likely she would have learned it in order to make the song perfect

  • glad she's not singing this song

  • Amazing. I like both the instrumkental and this version. Both of them are the same and yet so different. Amazing.

  • I stumbled onto this song on accident. I am glad I did, though. I love this version, better than the instrumental version. May someone tell me the name of the singer?

  • i think is jonsu from indica

  • I much prefer the original version, her voice is A bit screechy and blocks out the music. =S

  • i like both versions...this version is probably my favorite

  • It's MUCH better without ANY singer.
