you know that the miners sometimes collapse the mines on purpose to avoid any liability in peoples potential injuries that may result from their entrance into the mine right? but hardrock mines are actually very safe if you know what you are doing. they can be interesting and sometimes you can find some cool things in them.
The short portal is more than likely a prospecting bore that either showed them the vein they were looking for or is didnt pan out and was discontinued.
