That Horn Solo high above the orchestrea is one of the most trecherous solos in the entire literature. But oh my god does this player nail it right on the head!
The shifts up a semi-tone in the strings from 6:00 onwards are sublime. So lush and beautiful . Was fortunate enough to play this symphony on Friday night in London!
This music is not unlike a Thomas Mann novel with all the intricacies of plot and subplot, the one working with and against the other. Marvelous talent to extract the story on balance, just like this symphony, and 3rd movement, with its own story to tell on balance with the other movements and the piece as a whole.

beautifully magic adagio, this 3rd movement is a fine example of Mahler's most classical and lyricistic symphony, a true poem
