cheerleading is definately a sport. no question. this is my 8th season participating in Allstar Cheerleading and it requires physical strength, agility, flexibility, and lots and lots of dedication! :))

We have to do conditioning after training 3 times a week and you just run around tackling people!! conditioning way harder then tackling! im eleven and i tackle my 15 year old brother who is 6 ft tall and 170 pounds and it is wayyyyy easier then holding people up for up to 1 or 2 minutes!

ya i can do some of that stuff, not the crazy flips but i can do toe touches and cartwheels to back handsprings. there are a few reasons i watched, 1 someone put up a link to this while arguing if it was a sport, 2 i like cheerleading and as i said this was well done, doesn't make it a sport
OMFG, a cartwheel!!! so then you can't do the stunts, or the jumps or the actual hard stuff, you can do the stuff you learn when your like 3. thats cool. what do you consider a sport, ppl running around chasing a ball trying to get it in a net?? or hitting a ball with a bat then running in circles?? cheer is really hard, probably even harder then football, soccer, baseball etc. you may lift weights, but I LIFT PEOPLE!!

im glad someone finally mentioned that. i disagree with how the score is decided, i would have no problem calling it a sport if it wasnt judged but it is judged idk how many judges there are but the scores are not all the same and i believe that sports don't have conflicting scores. i know that the judges have things they look for but its still is judged. you get points for certain things but its up to a judge if there are deductions. i understand the arguement but i disagree with it.

it is decided by the dictonairy but the dictonairy is decided by a PERSON. golf make 2/3 and at times i struggle to see it as a sport but for the most part i do. what other sports don't meet my criteria baseball, football, soccer, laccross, basketball, tenis, vollyball, softball and hockey all meet my 3 requirements and those are the core sports.
to me a sport is something that meets atleast 2 of the 3 criteria i have listed before. if you think that cheerleading is a sport you are going to disagree with those things.

top gun did NOT deserve 1st. They didn't even deserve second. They dropped one girls the second day, had a major bobble in the pyramid, and had not one but 2 major tumble crashes. don't get me wrong, i LOVE top gun, but they just didn't, and i know im sounding like the movie, bring it the second day.
Thank you, i didnt notice alot of these things before. I still disagree though, Cali was good, but overall I still think Top Gun had better choreography and was just more clean, and fun to watch. I just wish the first day counted for more because if it did, Top gun would blow the competion away. Still, I think they should have one, but youre entitled to your opinion :)

some might think that cheerleading is nothing more than looking pretty and shaking pom-poms, the reality is that cheerleading requires strength, flexibility and agility. Some stunts can be extremely challenging and extremely dangerous. Cheerleading is potentially life threatning. Therefore it is a sport.

just b/c judges decide who wins does not rule it out from a sport:
an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature.
cheer requires skill, being extermly strong and in shape and you compete.

i disagree, i have three main points that i look at,
1. the physical activity and cheerleading makes that one
2. type of competition, in my mind (and you can disagree) sports have head to head competition, not just do your best and wait for the other team.
3. How it is scored, In baseball, football, soccer, and basketball they have set points not judges.
so cheerleading got 1/3 in my mind so i don't believe it is a sport

im not trying to debate someone, i can see how it would seem that way but i know that if you think it is a sport im not going to change your mind. and i don't think cheerleading is a sport i decide for myself what is a sport i don't need someone to tell me. and don't say it is "straight up fact" because it is up to the opinion of the person that decides the definition. I have stated what i look for in a sport cheerleading meets 1/3 thats not good enough to be a sport in my eyes.

@phldickinson okay so i just want to say that cheerleading meets 2 of them because we do have set points in competitions. You get a certain number of points depending on what you do.

im glad someone finally mentioned that. i disagree with how the score is decided, i would have no problem calling it a sport if it wasnt judged but it is judged idk how many judges there are but the scores are not all the same and i believe that sports don't have conflicting scores. i know that the judges have things they look for but its still is judged. you get points for certain things but its up to a judge if there are deductions. i understand the arguement but i disagree with it.

But you still compete, even if all the other teams are not competing at the same time as you, like AdamOnlineXII said, golf is a sport, so is diving, gymnastics, trampoline, figure skating, half pipe snowboarding, dance etc. in all of those judges decide who wins, but they are sports. no matter what you say cheerleading still is a sport and i am right, im just saying the truth. just b/c you dont have fighting in cheerleading to you its not good enough, or a real sport..

When infact your opinion, your singular opinion in the matter, means aboslutely nothing, it means less than shit all, becuase like hannygym208 said, the actual definition prooves it's a sport, and just becuase it dosn't meet some bullshit standerds you have about "sports" dosn't mean it isn't a sport. it is decided by the dictonairy but the dictonairy is decided by a PERSON. golf make 2/3 and at times i struggle to see it as a sport but for the most part i do. what other sports don't meet my criteria baseball, football, soccer, laccross, basketball, tenis, vollyball, softball and hockey all meet my 3 requirements and those are the core sports.

top gun did NOT deserve 1st. They didn't even deserve second. They dropped one girls the second day, had a major bobble in the pyramid, and had not one but 2 major tumble crashes. don't get me wrong, i LOVE top gun, but they just didn't, and i know im sounding like the movie, bring it the second day.

Thank you, i didnt notice alot of these things before. I still disagree though, Cali was good, but overall I still think Top Gun had better choreography and was just more clean, and fun to watch. I just wish the first day counted for more because if it did, Top gun would blow the competion away. Still, I think they should have one, but youre entitled to your opinion :)
