this is terrible! why dance polynesian/tahitian dance instead of doing our own local dances? what happened to "promoting our cultures and traditions?"
why does saipan celebrate a liberation day? they were not liberated? Saipan was japanese. the US did not go there to liberate the island. they went to attack and take over the island. and why tahitian dance? what about chamorro dance?
I used to be a part of a local cultural groups traveling abroad to Japan, Korea & Taipei to promote the CNMI. Tourists from these places comes here to watch our cultures. If they wanted to watch the cultures of Polynesian than they definately have money to travel to the Polynesia cause that were the pure Polynesian cultures is. We shouldn't promote other cultures but ours only.
You can go and check the award that we won from Seoul, Korea at Kotfa. That was under the administration of Mr. Froilon Tenorio. Or maybe you can contact Mr. Gordon Marciano of PDI and definatel Timamalao it aint a Polynesain dancers it's pure Chamolinian dance.
It is sad that you would say that, but respect your views though I don't agree with them. I, too, am proud of my culture and love/respects other cultures as well. Whether it be represented or promoted anywhere in the world, it should be done love, respect, and the utmost pride. We hope that you share and promote our culture wherever you may be or go in the future. Don't forget, we are part of Oceania which does include Polynesia.
yes, see, we ARE part of Oceania which includes polynesia, melanesia, and micronesia, but i'm pretty sure the polynesian islands have enough people presenting their culture, as do the melanesian islands.... it is truly a very rare sight to see micronesian culture being presented to the world. I think we need to try harder to present our micronesian culture to everyone else instead of always trying to use polynesia just because "it's easier" to do so.

Hey! i use to dance in Saipan, i was wandering what group this was? Thank you.

This is Tahitian dance, not "typical" island dancing from Saipan. Although this type of dance is popularly performed here, it's not indigenous.

Oh yes Sorry; at my tourist's eye it appeared like a typical dance from Saipan althought I was not sure. Now the description is corrected thanks.
