Apart from that Rev Moons movement is a messianic one, just as the one Jesus started. But since they rejected Jesus, his movement was cut short. The messianic mission could not be fulfilled anymore at that time. Hence the necessity of the second coming of Christ.

If we could talk with the people of that time they would say the same you just said and they based the persecution of Christianity in what it was "documented". Like earthly leaders, corrupt bibles, a new "revelation", a new interpretation, a non-Biblical source of "sacred writings" (something else as an authority besides the Bible), changing theology etc. The unification church believes in dualism, saying that God is male and female, that Moon completed the Lord Jesus Christ's work, Moon is the "messiah", and man becomes God. Blasphemy. Moon's doctrines are from the pit of hell.
