george shearing has passed away on feb 14th in ny...one of the few remaining giants of jazz...composer of lullaby of birdland....he saw and heard everything far better than most humans....there should be one happy audience up there wherever he is...
@Fabio - Listen to the true performance of the Satie composition it is far and away different then this version, I used to play it myself years ago, go listen and see as the poster stated there is a blending, the Satie structue or theme but Shearing vears off from there, far off, and "blends" it never entered my mind and this is what the end result is, almost only the theme is the same, Shearing creates, so different but keeps coming back to Satie, back and forth and thus MAGIC
The correct name of this music (adaptation) is "Gymnopedie from piano No.1 'Lent et douloreux' from Eric Satie. "It Never Entered my Mind" is a Miles Davis music.
@fbdrfbdr as i mention in the introduction..."it never entered my mind" is by rodgers-composer- and hart-lyrics...not miles davis.....and blending with the tune is satie's gymnopedie no.1...as you also have pointed out....just beautiful

@MrZekervan - Nope I have had this unique arragement for years and never get tired of listening to it. I think I never will ever get tired of the arrangement just different than the the regular way it is always is played. Your intuitition is spot on.

Bill Evans' 'Peace Piece' used to be #1 on my piano jazz list. It is now #2. Thank you Mr. Shearing.

Isn't this just an exact replica of "Gymnopédie No.1"?

Sorry it is Stan Getz, not Bill Evans, with Cybill Shepherd on her recording of the song.

Believe it or not, Cybill Shepherd does a nice job singing "It Never Entered My Mind" with Bill Evans at the piano I think. . .
