Im 44 years old, and still watch this and enjoying it as if it were the first time! Christmas is a time for mending old wounds, a time to reflect, a time to give thanks, a time for hope, making new friends, whilst saying good bye to old ones, a time to unite, and a time to share with those less fortunate, an exceptional and humble time, but most of all christmas is family and how we recieved the greatest gift of all, a baby born unto us so long ago... the gift of love from God... Jesus Christ
This was must viewing for me every year on CBS when I was growing. CBS would always play the "CBS speical presentation" bumper. Sponsered by Hostess or was it Dolly Madison?
0:55. I wont let all this commercialism ruin my Christmas. Truer words have never been spoken Charlie Brown. Not a very politically correct statement to make but true nevertheless. This is the Christmas that I grew up to cherishing as a child
@sixsixxsixxxx Oh, so it's WRONG to pray for people now? Would you rather have 'em troll those people? I swear, you can't pray for people anymore without them being insulted... -_-;
@AthlonCAP you are PRAYING for someone who dislikes this video? Why? because they don't agree with your religion right? pathetic, typical "christian"...
@sixsixxsixxxx Hush you troll. Haha. It has nothing to do with a person's religion. It has to do with the fact that they dislike such a pure video. If I saw a video about Kwanza, Diwali, Ramadan, Hanukkah, etc., and it is a good video, I would like it, not dislike it because of religion. Maybe you need to take a look at yourself and wonder why religion was the first thing to cross your mind. If this is just you trolling just to troll, then :P If not, then please think about it.
@AthlonCAP Dear, do you know what "overkill" means? This little feature has the most perfect balance of message and human tenderness ever made. Why do you need to cover it with your own? Let it be what it is and speak to people on its sweet own, please.
man I was so happy when i was a kid. full of love and life was actually fun. drugs has ruined my life and i can barely feel my heart anymore. it feels like a dust bunny.. i have accepted jesus into my life but i dont know if i can with my heart.. i will ask him if he can change my heart for me, but its hard with all the voices i hear. man, times have changed.
@somdie666 I am so happy you have accepted Jesus. Just remember, that sometimes, life becomes harder. You see, Satan, is very angry that he has lost you. Begin by reading the Gospels, and go to church and surround yourself with believers. Most of all pray like you have never prayed. In the book of Jude, it tells us...."When we seek God, he will seek us." Don't stop believing, even if life is bad or if things do not go your way. Humble your heart, God will bless you!
@califgirl11 thank you :") its funny, its only been two days and my heart has already become warmed with love. Jesus is amazing, God bless you, and thanks for the advice.
I love Charlie Brown's Christmas. I hated how they gave him such a hard time, made me cry when I was a kid, even now, lol, but then Linus comes to the rescue.
Thank you, Charles Schulz! Linus' reading from Luke (as Charlie views the shiny star) still remains fixed in my mind. Thank Heaven, our troops are coming home (from Iraq) at Christmas 2011! A Merry and Hopeful Christmas 2011 to one and all! To My Barbra Rose -- I hope to be with you in Heaven sometime very soon (where it's Christmas forever)!
I don't really think the Muslims and Jews could care less about Christmas and its true religious meaning. It's more the liberals, atheists and the politically correct Nazis who would complain and protest. They just want to make a political statement.
@powerpup97 Good luck I only ever found one video that shows that and the "brought to you by Coca-Cola" message at the end, the only other place I find one with no fade out is the soundtrack recordings that get posted on Youtube, heck even the later releases of this on video and DVD don't have the original and still use the fade out version, and if you're ever looking for the footage of Snoopy throwing Linus into a Coca-Cola sign, well that's pretty much lost forever.
You could never get away with the stuff that the Peanuts Christmas special did. You might be able to get a religious Christmas carol in, but you would never get quotes from the Bible. I think these things help make this such a classic, its simple and down to earth, and it confronts the feelings that many of us have during the holiday season. Give me a Peanuts Christmas over all of the Christmas specials of all the cartoons on Nick and Cartoon network any December.
@galacticdude7 Well give Cartoon Network credit for still showing How the Grinch Stole Christmas (I mean the animated one not that crappy Jim Carrey live action one) on their network after all these years, it's one of the few good classic Christmas and animated specials Cartoon Network has held on to for years since I was a little kid, I mean they've held onto that one maybe even longer than they let Toonami last.
@galacticdude7 Of course they kept Linus's sermon after all these years. Its the most memorable part of the special that's why it's been kept in, taking that out of the special is the equivalent of removing the most memorable moment of Rudolph of Frosty out of their specials and because Peanuts is as famous as it is, however other specials like Claymation Christmas which also show certain religious songs and segments like We Three Kings, show a church in a Joy *2bcont.*
@galacticdude7 *Continued* show a church in a Joy to the world segment (and the fact that it added an psyicadellic (or however you spell it) image of baby Jesus and the virgin Mary in the same segment probably was another reason it got canceled) and add to the fact that some people found the California Raisins offensive to African Americans and you see why it didn't last, shame some specials that show stuff that relate to religion didn't make past the mid 90s to the 00's *2bcont.*
@galacticdude7 *Continued* I guess the Peanuts special is just lucky like that I guess, still it is a shame the full specials always taken down off Youtube, I mean could they at least wait until after the holiday season before they start hitting us with the stupid copyright infringement crap? I mean its Christmas time, can't we just put aside our differences at least for this time of year? I mean they seem to be forgetting what this exact special tells us what Christmas is about in the 1st place
I LUV A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS! AND I LUV HOW THE BIBLICAL MEANING IS PORTRAYED THROUGH LINUS' SPEECH! I LUV A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS AND I LUV CHRISTMAS!!

@UltimateThanos OK, thanks. My name is Michael. Now, I'd like your take on my insistence that Santa, as depicted in 1964's "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer", is a bigot, an assassin of good vibes, exploiter of the working class and an accomplice in the (filmed) murder of a misfit bird . As King Moonbeam testified,"It was common knowledge the hapless bugger had no capability of flight whatsoever when that horrid toady with the hornrims, an elf of Mr. Claus' employ tossed him to his demise."
@fritzquarar I'm rly glad you can enjoy Christmas :3 It's such a big holiday I pity people who can't see the bright side and receive and pass on the love that grows much more this time of year. It doesn't matter if you believe in this or that, the message is universal~ "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas"
@FangnclawXD You too, my friend... Hope you find lots of Silver and Gold under your tree but I know we're both coming from the same place; The Siver And Gold is the health and happiness of your family, I sincerely wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and I'll light a Channukah candle for you! Thanks for the response-gives me hope.
i like how all they do is wave their hands and the tree decorates itself :) and i got REALLY mad when i missed this show in 2010. first Christmas i forgot to watch A Charlie Brown Christmas...
Back in 1965 when, GASP, they still allowed the words CHRIST and GOD to be aired on national TV, and NOT as profanity! If this doesn't make me long for my childhood and the good old days, nothing does.
I can never figure out why the lovely ending of this most lovely song is edited on television now (like on this video) since it used to be played decades ago. Too bad since the audiences miss out on this beautiful ending of the BEST Christmas cartoon show ever made!!!!!!
to me its all about the actual tree, because the important lesson was that the tree needed the love, and when they gave it, it was just as magic as necessary.
I have my own tradition about purchasing only branches and I put them in a vase and decorate it. a little craft wire and ingenuity takes you a long way kids.. still the same great smell, less clean up and environmental impact, just as pretty and makes the important charliebrown statment
It is amazing just how much this looks like a mid-west town in the 60's. The chain-link fence around the school, snow piled around it and the trees, the random stars twinkling in the sky. Yes - at 52 yrs old my wife and I watch this every year and have since having to scan the TV guide to see what night and time it came on as not to miss it that year. 'brought to you by dollie madison" Hah! Love this bit of magic - classic in every sense of the word.
This is exactly what Christmas is about. Like Charlie said, forget all the commercialism stuff and just embrace what u have. Kind of ironic though how so many people have been influenced by this movie that talks about what Christmas is about, yet we are more commercialized as a country every year
Came on last night on ABC :) I love this program. I wish other cartoons had the COURAGE to talk about the REAL meaning of Christmas. We all could learn something from this, even if it is 'old'.
I am 39 years old, and grew up watching this special every year on CBS..it never got old, I am even watching it on youtube now. When it came out on video in the early 90s, I watched it with my own kids. It still brings the sting of tears, even though I consider myself agnostic. Great writing and music.
The fIrst few times I saw was on our family's black and white TV. In 1972 we got our first colour TV. What a change but the message stays the same. To everyone Merry Christmas!
I remember all 4 of us kids being curled up with my parents watching this on TV every year. My sweet Daddy is gone now, which makes this show all the more poignant to me, and at the end when they all say, "Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown!" I cry, every time, and whisper, "I love you Daddy!" Such wonderful memories. Thank you, Charles Schultz, God rest your sweet soul!
i am 35 years old and have watched this every year since I can remember, as I grew up and became a father this became more than just a holiday special as we started watching with our children. i cry everytime linus tells us about the spirit of christmas because i think about when i was a young boy and how much love i had this time of year and how much i love my dear children and my wife and our family. it just moves me what can i say. merry christmas everyone
Idk don't get an iPod for Christmas. Heck, I'd rather get the DVD for this special than something stupid like that. Everyone needs to watch this as a child to truly know the meaning of Christmas. Who hates the Peanuts, really?
2:20 the boy in the yellow coat vanished suddenly.

It's not such a bad little tree.
CARDUELIS999 9 months ago
Back in 1965 when, GASP, they still allowed the words CHRIST and GOD to be aired on national TV, and NOT as profanity! If this doesn't make me long for my childhood and the good old days, nothing does.

I can never figure out why the lovely ending of this most lovely song is edited on television now (like on this video) since it used to be played decades ago. Too bad since the audiences miss out on this beautiful ending of the BEST Christmas cartoon show ever made!!!!!!

I don't want Christmas to end.
fanatic926 1 year ago
THis is the crucial scene in the whole show
to me its all about the actual tree, because the important lesson was that the tree needed the love, and when they gave it, it was just as magic as necessary.

Idk don't get an iPod for Christmas. Heck, I'd rather get the DVD for this special than something stupid like that. Everyone needs to watch this as a child to truly know the meaning of Christmas. Who hates the Peanuts, really?
