@papatach Well... since this version is only available on early pressings of the vinyl its possible that when it was digitized the LP was going slightly faster than 33 1/3
It's like queen mated w/ bee gees smokey &miracles and the 4 seasons. very good voice crazy good and and fairly good rapping for '81 nice flow bowie. man these dudes wanted 2 mix it all up. that riff seems familar can't place it.
I must agree with Bowie - his backing vocals suck balls here and just detract from the goody parts. On the other hand, Freddie's voice sounds even better then in the final track. Go figure!
I haven't read all the comments for this song so apologies if I've got this wrong BUT.....this version of the song is ever so slightly speeded up so Fred's voice does sound a little altered and higher than the original. However.....the original's pure, unadulterated Freddie!
I haven't read all the comments for this song so apologies if I've got this wrong BUT.....this version of the song is ever so slightly speeded up so Fred's voice does sound a little altered and higher than the original. However.....the original's pure, unadulterated Freddie!
Previous comments suggest that Bowie is just going 'bum, bum, bum'. Remember that sampling was around for those who could afford it then. It's obvious that Queen (probably Freddie) used a single Bowie 'bum' for that part. I'll leave you with that thought..........
@LazyCheeseburger, Falsetto is a high pitched voice. Easy to do if you slow the music down for the recording then put it back to normal after (Like here). Have to be careful not to chipmunk it though. Bowie refused to allow this to be released.
@bartlettandbosc , he possibly (probably!) had better things to do. Bowie requested that his vocals be removed from this track if it was to be released. The whole thing is ridiculous, & typically Freddie, bless the guy :) It's just not Queen or Bowie, is it??
@MalquiLans Don't get me wrong. I LOVE this song! It's one of my all time favorite Queen tunes! It's good to know Bowie had the common sense to enforce a "no fly zone" on his track in the song. I shall hasten to add, mind, that NO WAY is Freddie's voice "chipmonked" in this recording and i'm quite sure Queen did not sit around a mixing desk saying "let's just sample that one "bum" David did and and put it all over the song" like a group of kids playing on a sampler in a school music room.
This version was to appear on a Bowie album called " Glitter" but he didn't like the song and had a bit of a falling out with Mercury. He released the album Scary Monsters
not the potency that´s not important, but yeah the melodic sound, he is a kittie in this song the best voice in the best man, he wanted to do it more acute to remark more the difference between bowie and him, and he definitely did it.
My friend and I were driving along to and Elton John/Billy Joel concert a few days ago listenin to my iPod on random. This song came on and my friend shouts "WHY DO YOU HAVE PORN MUSIC ON YOUR IPOD?!?!" he didn't know this was Queen..gotta love em XD. I think it's a great song. Not their best but hey...still rocks!
ya I did. it really wasn't gettin any reads or anythin over here so I copied and pasted it to the other one to see if people would read it more there.
I'm sorry to say it but this gets my vote as being Queen's worst song. It doesn't appear to make any statement of any significance at all. Freddie is singing way out of his best range. There's nothing going on of any interest with the guitars, bass and drums. It's just a pointless and meaningless song. A totally uninspirational album filler.
I can see why Dave asked for his vocals to be taken out, they were superfluous and took away from the song. It wasn't a complete loss though, if Dave hadn't come to record this, we might not have had "Under Pressure"
good job david! vocally u're great in this song, ba ba ba ba ba... great performance comparing with that A4 note that freddie can reach...ma vaffanculo david
Bowie is totally unnecesary here. That's good that they erased his vocal because it didn't add anything to the song and it would look like an attempt to get more sales by adding Bowie's name to the credits. If there is something that I like on this version, it is the longer fadeout (always nice to hear couple of NEW seconds of Queen music...).
Technically, this is the original cut, recorded at the same time as Under Pressure. Freddie and Deacy wrote it, and it's Freddie alone on the final version. Cheers =]
