I was in the studio when Carrie recorded this and several other songs.. She was an amazing, sweet and gifted artist .. Willie Hutch was a great producer too.. He wrote hits for Michael Jackson and others and had alot of his own hits too! thanks for the Flash back!!

Found this 12" at some argain bin ten years ago and I keep getting back to it. One of the crispiest records I own. It's produced by Willie Hutch and the dub is smokin'.
this song was hiding in the nooks and crannys of my head and I just had to find it. not that I liked it, but it just kicks me back to the days when I used to stare at the tube and watch music videos all day.
Oh Yeah !! this white girl got soul, I wonder why this was not a bigger hit too!! I am feeling this jam, her vocals are tight, music is good too. She had a good track here, what did they not push further, very similar to Paula Abdul stuff. Nice track
the sad thing is after all of the plays on Soul Train; this video; the awesome 12'' version and dub, Motown still didn't promote her effectively and she went back to obscurity.
You're welcome, Nick! I didn't realize that it was played a lot on ST! She ended up moving to Nashville and recording Christian music. I'm sure the Motown experience wasn't the most positive, based on most things I've heard from other artists who were affiliated in the late 80's:-(
@Lcaine22 .......Hello this is Carrie....... I had a GREAT time on MOTOWN!! Berry Gordy was my manager.....It was one of the most Wonderful times in my life!! I will forever be Grateful to Berry for all HE did for me. I so enjoyed visiting him in mAY and will go back often to get His advice on my most recent CD project!! Those were GREAT days!! And music!!
@CarrieMcdowellFriend Carrie, is that really you? If so, I wanted to say how much I've enjoyed your recordings through the years, including the early ones like "Fallin' Too Fast." Hope all is good your way! Sincerely, Justin Kantor (aka RetroRhythms, the video uploader!) :-)
...I was a high school freshman when this song came out! She kinda reminds me of Teena Marie...LOVES IT!!!

Why is she dressed like an Orthodox rabbi??

@JacquesTutite
Maybe because she was brought up around quite a few Jewish people. I know the area she grew up well.

Preachy lyrics aside, the song had a great beat!

Maybe it wasn't a bigger hit because people want to be entertained and not preached at.
But it probably got her on the PTL and 700 Club circuit.
Just between us, casual sex can be a lot of fun. In fact, it can be one of life's greatest experiences.
Is this the same Carrie McDowell that performed with Rowan and Martin way back when?
arturobastard 2 years ago
@arturobastard If she performed with Rowan and Martin, she would have been VERY young. She was 12 on Johnny Carson.

@arturobastard So does that mean "Relax, Don't Do It" is too preachy for you too?
