Don't be afraid to disband: hundreds will die so keep moving thousands of farmers and weapons to your bases. Defeated leaders will probably return solo. Edinburgh base works best
keep sending simultaneous waves upon waves upon waves of armies from your bases to target towns. ultimately you will conquer them. manipulate production so no workers are employed and use your army screen to shift these workers, along with any weapons in the town, to your bases. now you send all of the livestock, jewelry and such and such to your base and you can ignore this ghost town completely.
Thier was a patch to fix the bug where the game crashed after a year +/- i phoned the company and asked them about it, as well as change to troops -answer was becouse ppl where just emptying thier towns and useing them as an army instead of building up the towns, also to win without useing cheats in battles - use the trinagle formation and get some troops behind the enemy you will kill them much faster then a frontal assult.
I loved this game I could never run the battlefield scenes though it always crashed on me.. Is there a game that's quite like this? I don't care about graphics, I've played some of the total war games but nothing really compares to Braveheart :(
You should review War of the Worlds, as that is a very different strategy game like this one and Dungeon Keeper 2 and Sronghold, that you have reviewed! :)

The depth dwarves many modern rts but I dont see them revisiting this , not unless they made it a european wide clan/tribe type game with more than just scotland involved kinda like how medieval is but with tribes rather than countries. Its also concerning that pc gaming seems to be dying

I liked this game. Remember this was 1999 and it was a first of its kind. It was before Shogun:TW, similar but also had a first person mode which RTS have yet to really embrace. It was more like Europa Universalis with its real time ticker. Only those types of games to this day still dont have any graphic combat at all. Braveheart was revolutionary it was a Grand Strategy / Real Time hybrid genre of its own that hopefully someday will be revisited with proper tech to handle give it justice.
Good comment, couldn't agree more. If they had a decent battle system, made your armies a bit less mutinous and had not so many towns to conquer this would be a fantastic game. I feel due to my love of the film I have to be a little harsher on it so not to be biased in any way, but I agree that it had a lot of potential and would love to see it remade.
@scottishterrierdude The reason this game was so bad was because the company that was making the game tryed to put to much detail in the battles and went bankrupt and the company that took over the making of the game just though together any old battle engine to get the game released.

3.8/10 is too generous for this pig slop. The game was absurdly tedious, had a god-awful interface (particularly when it came managing your specific counties).The battles, as evidenced in your video, were nothing but free-for-alls. Furthermore, the a.i. would never retreat, no matter how large or well-trained your army was. Castle sieges, as I recall, crashed every time; as would the game (after prolonged play). Utter disaster.
besides i have napoleon, empire, rome and medieval total war.... i want this fucking game
