When I was little my dad would sing this to me. I'm 18 now, he died on April 27th of this year. Rest in peace Dad. A true Newfoundlander till the end. I love you.
thanks for posting this song. like you and slip i was born on the rock and grew up listening to songs like this and i loved them even though i was raised on mainland. However of all the song from Newfoundland this is my al-time fave (exept for a pittence of time) and this song is number 2 in my al-time faveorite songs. So thanks for posting this song
my wife is from englee and i am from North Carolina... we are both easterners! but shes a bit more north!... she loves buddywasisname and always asks me to put it on for her...this is one of my favorites so far
you made my month i am a canadan citizen by first gen rule. as a small boy i listened to songs like this and my grandfather loves this song my familly hails from the maritimes and this is my grandpas fav. song thank you for putting it up before he died and never got another chance to hear it thank you so much its bad enough he will never see his relatives im glad to give him a peice of our beloved canada to him.
Nobody sings songs like this better than Ray. I have been a long time of Buddy & the Fellers ever since I first heard them on Murray McLauchlan old CBC show "Swinging on a Star". While not a "real Newfie", my family dates back to the 1700's in Spaniard's Bay and I have always had love of Newfoundland music.
The best group of musicians to come from the island of Newfoundland. Seen them many times and introduced many others to their wonderful music. This is one of my favorites. Love Ray's voice.
I grew up in Gander, and I'm very familiar with buddy and crew.Saw them numerous times live and they are always stellar entertainers.Whether they play in Calgary or St.John's,foolish or serious,It's always a good time. But this song in particular was always my favorite.
Seamus O'Brien is a lovely (And underrated) Tune as well, one that you can't find on youtube, unfortunately. As is Where the Mountains meet the Bay is also a beautiful song.
Buddy can be a funny fellow, although this song is much more appreciable, in my opinion. The Celtic really pours through, y'know? ^^; Glad you had this uploaded; it's a very beautiful song. Thanks~
a few years back, me and me old man took a trip back to the rock. with the radio cutting out for hours at a time we bought a Buddy Wasisname and the other fellers cd and this was on it. I so miss being there.
Best part was 9:32, really nice, soothing and quiet.

Kevin's got the comedy and plays so many instruments. Good singer too.
Wayne sings all the songs that make you long to be back on the rock.
But every time Ray does a song....it just reaches right down and touches the roots in every Newfie's soul.
Anyone from the rock who isn't touched by these guys never belonged there in the first place.
