Agreed with a comment. First change music super annoying. Then, you should have a cu of screen. Very simple things to do and will make a huge improvement in your production.

Beware of H4n best kept secrets:

= Cannot play mono .MP3 files which is 90% of all podcasts you download.

= Permanent Loss of data when low battery or in Stamina mode.

= Very Slow boot when your SD card is larger than 1GB. And believe me, you'll soon need 16-32GB with its huge .WAV files.

= Short battery life.

= Outdated LCD screen and user interface.

= Many Many more problems. Look for my review in Amazon coming in July. Don't waste your money on this super-expensive recorder.

Questions for anybody who sees this: is this the ONLY unit this size that records 4 tracks? I know about the Edirol R4--the beast. Also, it's too bad the onboard mics can't be bypassed for using four inputs externally. Either way, this is a GREAT unit. What are the drawbacks? I'd like to see it smaller.

OK Zoom, in the 0.0001% chance anyone from a jap company values end-user feedback and is reading... Great machine, to a degree.

You need to be able to produce mono recording files with a single ext. mic. There is no logic in pro audio that advocates that you waste 2x disk space for zero-gain.

Also, in USB mode, why 16 bit only? Even 20 bit would get rid of the crap headroom issues we used to deal with in the early 90's. Firmware update please....

@70jth I had similar problem with H4n. I bought this few days back. Its works fine when i record with the built in mics. Then i connected the stereo input from Korg keyboard and selected the 1 and 2 button. When i playback the recording, its so feeble..i hardly hear the sound. Im sure im missing something...Did u find any solution to urs.??? plz help.

@jayzijk check to see if it is in stamina mode. Its the only button under the battery cover. If that is on then it will limit your options to the stereo mics only.

Good recorder let down to a degree by the noisy external mic amps. Built in mics a bit ott on the lows.
