LOL ! Unbelievable. The amount of time and effort that you must have invested in building it and eliminating the bugs... boggles the mind. You get an enthusiastic round of applause from me !
how many parts ? 1000 ? more , these things are designed for dealership only what twat would desgine an expensive gearbox with no way of checking the fluid level ?
any referance to the gearbox = dealer only , look at it this way ,the gets to be 5 yr old the gearbox is worth more thann the car !
the repair costs are so high more vw are being stolen for the gearboxes causing the insurance costs to rise ,repair costs are scary.
has a very bad clunk when shifting from 4-5-6 when going down a certain grade. the transmission gets very confused and vw knows of this issue and has not dealt with it. Something in the drive train has to give out from that torque being displaced in an instant. i.e. CLUNK, THUMP, BOOM!!!!!
VW is king of engineering. Dual clutch tranny is the most advanced gearbox ever made. Shifts in .3 seconds. Even Ferrari abandoned it's F1 tranny in favor of the dual clutch gearbox. Germany rules in terms of engineering.
Actually this was pattented almost a century ago by a french inventor. But I do agree with you, germans know their stuff when it comes to weapons and engineering
@LachozaTube and its invented from a french person ;) Without second world war all Citroens' have this gearbox today. But second world war has destroyed this plans :(
@LachozaTube during WWII, the americans tried to show how much more advanced in engineering they were to the germans, so the made the smallest peice of wire and send a snippet of it to the germans. they responded by drilling a hole in it and sending it back
Actually it is Porsche you should be thanking. Porsche 956/962 Group C racecars was the first cars to incorporate PDK - Porsche DoppelKupplungsgetribe - the first double clutch gearbox in the world.
I drove it in the TDI last night and it was terrible Its very jerky and has less power than the manual. Maybe the model I was driving was sitting on the lot too long, but there seem to be a lot of these comments on message boards.
My old camera couldn't record sound! But there was no commentary anyway. There is a full explanation of this model on our website (see the video description above for details).
yep, im driving 2.0 TDI DSG two years now, and all i can say is that i never gonna drive anything else beside VW DSG! you wouldnt belive, you have small robogadget who is very qiuck and agresive in driving!
Wow!!! Amazing!! I am translating a text about the DSG gearbox. It is not helping very much to see it actually, but nevertheless it's interesting. :) Quite cool. German cars rock! ;) ;)
It's a fairly ingenious system. The "wet" clutches engage two concentric input shafts. The outer shaft is connected to 2nd, 4th, and 6th while the inner is connected to 1st. 3rd, 5th. R can be on either shaft. When one shaft is engaged, the collar for the gears on the other shaft moves to the next available gear. So, when you up shift the gear is already engaged. It's pretty awesome.
I have a Skoda Octavia with a DSG gearbox and having seen this film it shows how much effort goes into car design. Having driven the car with DSG I would not consider driving anyhthing else with a different transmission - they are fantastic transmissions! Great film 10/10.
Whats it like to drive one? They look fairly fragile and as far as racing goes, way way to big vs. straight cut gears. Would love to try it out. Ever driven a CVT? I drove a Nissan Maxima CVT. It was interesting but a little less responsive than I like and the engine breaking sucks compared to a manual.
could you give some sources about fragility in racing? i have test driven one and it is absolutely fantastic, jawdropping piece of machinery. you don't feel even the slightest of jerks. also test driven the cvts. and i really wonder which one would be more reliable in the long run. i'll appreciate any comments or links.
this is a model of the trans, not the actual trans. its as reliable as any trans out there for racing or daily driving. for daily driving it'll last u forever
i've also driven an octavia DSG for the past few days, in comparison to a Superb V6 TDI with the "old" automatic, the gearshifts are much faster and more precise, although i prefer the old auto transmission as it feels more firm and is very very smooth :-D
although, I wouldn't have anything against owning a DSG machine :-)
Nightmare...!

The best car with a DSG box has to be the audi A3 3.2 V6...
I thought DSG standed for: Dual Sequential Gearbox. lol, i guess not
