These scenes between Toby and Will are my favorite, because they focus on writing and the writing process. As a writer, I keep my eyes and ears open for anything I can use to enhance my craft.
That being said, I've always wanted to say this: it's not alliteration if there's not a consonant at the beginning. It's "torrent of Tylenol", not "avalanche of Advil".
@PaperbackWizard Sorry, but Toby was right, or should I say Aaron Sorkin was right. Alliteration is using a particular sound in the first syllable of a series of words. It does not matter if that sound is from a consonant or a vowel - it is alliteration either way.
@tartfuel There's a different word to use when it's a repeating vowel sound than when it's a repeating consonant. And now that I think of it, "guardians of gridlock" is a little iff-y because it pairs "ga" and "gra".
"Nacaz8" I get that too. Earlier in the series (I think it was during 20 Hours In America), Josh was telling Toby that "most kids weren't the smartest kid in the class, most kids didn't like the smartest kid in the class" and Toby pauses for a few seconds and then says "YEAH" in a quiet and mild manner (as to say "SO"?)
as much as i love toby throughout this entire series, this clip clearly shows how much he hates and can't handle the idea of people with equal intellect and skill as his.
@omore This was also the episode where Leo and Charlie try to keep the President from taking the call from the U.N. Secretary-General about parking tickets! But this scene is also great.
"I needed an avalanche of Advil". LMAO!!!

oh and i love the scene where they compare notes and toby opens up to him about his recent slow down in writing

He just happened to have a handy seltzer bottle sittin' around. :-)

@cshubs My take: he regularly burns his notes and throws them in his trash. Given that, the seltzer bottle would probably be a staple in his office.

According to Wikipedia, a vowel/consonant distinction is made for internal sounds (assonance/consonance), but not in fact for initial sounds.
And this is a great scene.

@PaperbackWizard That's not iffy at all. Alliteration is the initial consonant sound, in this case the hard g.

You can always find a seltzer bottle when you need one.

I love the timing of 'I'm fine doing this by myself' as clouds of smoke rise over his shoulder

i completely disagree. its only when will showed that he was on par with toby intellectually that toby was willing to work with him.
