I'm surprised seaworld even has killer whale shows. The aquarium where I live let their killer whales go decades ago as they were found to be one of the most intelligent creatures in the ocean. Looks like seaworld is just a few years behind.

@azaaza0909, no, not in all cases. Although the exact cause of why some whale's dorsal fins bend over and some don't, the most likely explanation is gravity. Since the dorsal fin has physically no bone, it is probable that since a whale in captivity spends more time at the surface than a whale in the wild, gravity bends it over. It doesn't hurt the animal though, and it doesn't happen to all whales- most of the time the bent dorsal fins belong to males, but sometimes females will have it too.

All male maturing killer whales go through that stage, Sumar is a great killer whale and he does do behaviors. Once again all killer whales grow and do become "lazy" at some point, give him some credit.

No he's still growing, bulls, begin maturing at 12 to 14 years of age and over the next few years, grow very quickly and become physical maturity at about 20 years. So yes he has a while. All captive male killer whales perform just not all know water work.
