The blue pill is just a sleeping pill, knocks you out and they would deliver him back to his place in the matrix. The red pill causes an electrical disturbance which allows them to find Neo in the real world, rather than searching through billions of tubs. So taking both at the same time would knock you out and allow you to be freed...just asleep...
