Yes, if "economy" means running up debt. If, however, "economy" means a great industrial capacity, efficient allocation of resources and high employment, US is not as great as it was a hundred years ago.
And on "sustaining the free world": I think the free world will sustain itself. US is not free any more, in many ways the rest of the world has a lot more freedom. All the laws and regulations have killed your freedom.
Haha we dont say we want to stay a superpower for no reason, we learned our lessons from WW2 and the cold war and we dont want to live in a world with competing military powers again...so you are damn right we will sustain our ability as a sole superpower in the name of world peace.
@charlie123abc360 well if your county can compete with us the go ahead but as far as i kno the the only other country that can take our place is china and i will die before i see a comunist country gain world power
@arbitrage2030 communist or democracy its all a sham that can become a dictatorship. Just as your beloved America is becoming more socialist it is becoming a fascist totalitarian police state. Enjoy ;D
The reason they HAD to deceive Average Joe and Jane into buying that BS that we Americans are "the best in the world" was so they could make us WANT to be their war slaves. To the parasitic, freeloading, lazy, useless de Rothschilds (Bauers), Rockefellers, Morgans, etc., we "average" Americans have never been anything more than war slaves, wage slaves, and debt/tax slaves.
On a separate note: Are you guys at RNN seeking small business owners (who support Ron Paul) to sponsor your news clips?
I disagree with Aijaz, he is totally ignoring the logic of Ultra-Imperialism. The US could not do what it does without consent of the Western capitalist powers, and even emerging countries like China and India. The bases do serve a purpose, so I have to disagree...
Good point but I disagree with you when you say the U.S. could not do what it does without the consent of other Western capitalist powers...Some bases are/were justified but may not be anymore.
The US needs the support of other Western Powers to make sure its able to subvert the south, without that it would not be able to do both. Remember it was those Western states in the imperialist and interwar period that challenged capitalism, and now that has expanded to China as well. The US NEEDS core consent...its obvious
the US invaded Iraq despite UN's decision that it would be illegal. They defied other UN nations and went on with the invasion so it doesn't seem too obvious that they need core consent for anything. They just go ahead anyway..
Wrong, the core states were divided among themselves over Iraq. The UK, Italy, Spain, Japan, South Korea, and Australia were the major members of the core that supported the US. I do not think the US could have done it all by itself, not realistic. Russia, China are peripheral, and France and Germany were not strong enough to represent core dissension. Do not forget Kosovo was also illegal by the UN, but it occurred as well. So again, very partial understanding of history.
This is all just a little bit too late. It is not the Americans that ar ethe best or most powerful. Why, because the controlling force is the Corporation of the United States. This is not owned by the people but is infact a part of a much larger corporation. As the next few months unfold, you will see how completely pointless this deabte is. UNLESS OFCOURSE ENOUGH PEOPLE RISE AND DEFY THE SYSTEM.
Anyone remember the phrase "ethnic cleansing", attributed to Hitler's Germany?
Substitute the word "ethnic", with "economic", and you have the synopsis of current world events.
Peace to all slaves! I'm with ya'! Share and fave this video. Information is power, the establishment fears us now, just a little. Help make it a LOT!
Good talk. There was one point where one could kinda tell that Aijaz Ahmed is a Marxist as opposed to a Libertarian Socialist:
"...and this [change of attitude], I think, has to be done very methodically top down, because years and years and decades of chanting this has sorta seared this notion [of superiority] into the souls of a lot of Americans."
As if the American people are less capable of breaking free from indoctrination than the élites are capable of subverting their own interests.
Oh I wasn't saying that to belittle him or to limit him to just a label spewing out a position's standard rhetoric. Clearly his analysis was good, even if I don't adhere to the same political philosophy that he does.
Military intervention and occupation, won't bring the wisdom of the good leaders in those contries... those leaders will die or just leave the country... no body wins when you destroy everything
What long-term global power structure is best? A democratic world government? Ain't gunna happen. A singular power? Ain't gunna last. Balanced superpowers? Escalates conflict. Competing democratic alliances? Hmmmm. How do we make that happen?
I think you might be talking around the basic goal of taking them over and stealing their stuff. It is more like a national gang with unbelievably huge and deadly weaponry. Defending democracy has nothing to do with it. What's happening here is these guys are trying to get funding from the gang leaders since truth isn't worth a crap in real life. This way they can continue to keep their "talk jobs" and wear suits to work. Some kind of alternative point of view? i don't think so.
If one (or in this case two) scholarly types make something sound like a complex issue, it ceases to be straight forward follow the money realistic analysis. They are talking a good game around the real issues These are bolstering or growing the hierarchy, creating a place for sideways analysis, and maintaining their place in an imperialist regime, that is getting fabulously wealthy by stealing our freedoms and another country's extremely valuable resource while lying about the reason.
I think the psychology of the nation would go into shock if we were to try and adopt the notion that we are on the same level as any other country in the world. Considering what we are facing in our economy and it's effect around the world, we will need to do this to survive.
LMFAO... I'm certainly not much of a republican, Ron Paul is about the only one at the federal level I'd give two shits for. In fact Bob Barr's republican voting record is the one reason I might not vote libertarian this time around.
btw i think this message misses to say that America is the greatest economy that the world has ever seen

I was one of the millions of supporters & contributors to Ron Paul.
The McCain people treated us like crap & stole delegates from us.
Now the McCain people are coming to me asking for a GOP donation.
NOT ONLY "NO" -- BUT "HELL NO!"
I will now either support Barrack or Barr or Baldwin.

If you bomb The Chine Empire Walmart will go out of business when it loses it's slave labor factories.
Where would you get the money to wage this war? Borrow more from China then invade?
You need to buy some shovels and rakes because your children will need them to grow food to survive in the not so distant future.
