  • wow this Voce is So Beautiful

  • I think Caballe's wonderful, but this particular performance is my favourite. She was actually singing into a stiff breeze: "Montserrat Caballe "Casta diva" Norma Orange 1974"

  • i agree

this performance was one of those magical moments in music history

    i love your video

being a Marlene Hedy and Garbo devotee

    all lovely clips

    thanks for sharing

  • great clip..marlene, romy, lilli and mädchen in uniform incredible..which movie is it on 1:26?

  • Thanks. 1:26 is Showboat (1951)

  • Thanks for the post. Someone just posted the classic Mitchell Leisen farce "The Mating Season" (1951) which features three of my favorite actresses Gene Tierney, Thelma Ritter and not to be left out Miriam Hopkins. Talk about talent.

  • What an interesting assembly! I missed it, alas.

  • You can catch it on Youtube!!! By the way you do beautiful work I look forward to the Gene Tierney project.

  • I love all these Ladies but Gene Tierney at 3:04 in Sundown then The Shanghai Gesture just beautiful. More Gene please!

  • A future project perhaps. She was lovely, wasn't she? I particularly loved "Laura", but that was partly because of Clifton Webb's pithy lines.

  • Wow, I love it. The Rita section with Gilda is awesome.

  • Thanks. It was fun to make. I think that the Gilda scene is one of the most "iconic" moments in movies.

  • very nice! Thank you for sharing. Garbo and Dietrich are my very favorites but Gardner and Lamarr sure are the most beautiful ;)

  • Thanks, jimmy. Do you prefer Garbo and Dietrich because they were mesmerising?

  • Yes they were! And there were something powerful and unique about them that I don't see in other divas :). Oh btw, i forgot to say: great job on this video.

  • Apparently Dietrich was very self-aware of how to generate her "star" quality. I don't know whether Garbo was as deliberate. She certainly had sexy body-language.

Thanks, jimmy, glad you liked it.

  • Beautiful! I could die for Louise Brooks...

  • Thanks. She was sweet wasn't she?

  • Oh, yes! For me, she was the most beautiful girl in the world! I love her bob. I love her eyes. I love her smile. I love her gesture. I love her mimic. One word: breathtaking.

  • By her "mimic", did you mean something like "nachahmend"? Mimicry?

  • Sorry, saphistische, my English is too bad to explain what i realy mean, but I will try it.

I love her facial expression (eyes, eyebrows and mouth) and body language. She can look like a child and in the next second like a girl next door or a vamp. Take a look at this little scene from "Pandora's Box" of your uploaded video. It looks real, naturally and not affected. I think she was no diva like Marlene Dietrich (in my opinion).

  • I think that by mimicry you meant expressiveness.

Your English is very good. I chose that particular clip for the same reasons that you like it. It's like watching emotions dance across a face. Lovely to watch.

I tried to put a variety of "types" into the video.

  • Very nice. I LOVE Rita Hayworth. Did you see the magazine cover of Variety? Amy Adams was honoring the love goddess by posing as Rita did for Gilda, Cover Girl and the famous pin-up pose.

  • Thanks, Frames. I love the hair-toss and the saucy look that she gives Glen Ford after saying, "If I were a ranch, they'd call me the Bar Nothing."

Alas, I didn't see the cover.

  • Thanks, bluemoon. The apple clip?

Again, great minds thunked alike. This was already in the works when "Garbo" appeared -- I chuckled at the like-mindedness. It took quite a while to find and edit everything.

I stuck to the principle that the editing proces will drive me insane if I don't absolutely love the music.

  • Yes, the apple clip..it's fun silliness made me smile. I'm enjoying the *thunking* alike!

I agree it really helps to absolutely love the music. I love what you've done here.

  • Thunk is the sound of wheels slowly turning.

As usual, WMM did weird things to the timing when I finally remembered to insert the transitions. I ended up with a music over-run and decided to add the apple clip because they are so cute together. Luckily, it had a practically perfect duration.

  • Ah, so that's the noise I'm hearing?!

Great idea to add the apple clip. It's such a cute clip...I really like it.

  • Is it something like: ca-thunk-ca-thunk-ca-thunk?

    That's it.

    Republicans sound different: duh-thunk-duh-thunk-duh-thunk.

I love the apple clip. I suppose that I could have put it at the beginning, but I really liked the chorus line. I probably should have put it before the end credit. Too late now.

  • That's exactly what I've been hearing, ca-thunk! Yeah....

Republicans do have that distinct DUH-THUNK don't they?!

I like the chorus line at the beginning and the apple fun at the end....I love it just the way you did it. I'd like to try that apple game...

  • You just need a string, an apple, and a couple of cuties. One cutie might be sufficient.

  • Sounds (and looks) like this might be fun to try...they certainly looked like they were having fun.

  • Oh, before I forget....I love the beautiful Ava Gardner. You have some very nice images of her!

  • One good gold and green turn deserves another ;-}

I really like the photo with the white blouse.

  • Hmmmm, I had my suspicions. ;-} Thank you!

Oh yes, the *white blouse* photo is one I really like too.

The apple game is amusing to watch, and most likely (I'm guessing) even more amusing to play. Interesting how so much fun can be had from an orchard!?

  • It looks like more fun than bobbing apples -- which combines frustration with near-drowning.

I suspect that the trick is to apply suction or to have a horse-sized mouth.

  • Yes, I think it would be preferable to apply suction rather than inhaling water. Ha, a horse sized mouth or really sharp teeth may help. Hmmm, perhaps the fun lies in not actually catching the apple?

  • Based on that old film clip, I would definitely agree. Their antics were sweet and companionable. Apple bobbing has the further disadvantage of being solitary.

  • Yes, the clip is sweet. Chasing the elusive apple on a string looks quite enjoyable. Not catching the apple makes for extended companionable fun. ;^)

I'd probably pass on apple bobbing....

  • The obvious way to succeed at this would require teamwork -- converging from 60 degree angles and trapping the wobbly little sucker between three faces. However, *that* would spoil the fun ;-}

  • You're right about the teamwork method. Hmmm, teamwork would be fun, though less teamwork looks like it would be more fun. ;^]

  • I gave this a little more thought. Convergence could be fine if the apple weren't in the way.

This free-swinging approach certainly looks more giggly.

  • Hmmmm, I think we just *ca-thunked* again! Ah yes, eventually remove the apple from the equation.

I like the free swinging fun, though apple free convergence sounds like more fun yet.

  • Perhaps a small chocolate bar on the string would add to the fun of eliminating obstructions.

  • Yes, I like this idea. Hmmmm, a tasty little obstruction. Happily nibbled and melted to eliminate boundaries, then delightfully shared.

  • Mmmm, melted chocolate to lick off lips.

  • The guys in the background are clearly amused by the apple activities.

  • Wow wow wow wow wow! Gorgeous clips of such beautiful women, paired with beautiful music. Very nice...... I love the ending...
