  • Damn I sure miss this kind of tv.....

  • I want a soundtrack for all the emotional moments of my life as good as this one.

  • carlas feelings look so real @ 0.29 ....... scrubs is great

  • 4th time I see this and not crying was almost impossible. Man that guy is one great actor.

  • This scene made me cry. I am an 18 year old man.

  • I like how even in an emotional moment he still called JD newbie. 0:47.

  • That man was freaking robbed of the emmy. Best comedy since MTM period.

  • Best show ever.

  • Man, he freaked out, real professionl

  • @Rubberbandman529 if your not emotionally invested in your career , you don't have one. all you have is a job.

  • time to re-watch scrubs

  • First time i saw this i cried my eyes out.

A good comedy show makes you laugh, a great one makes you cry.

  • @EmiLo1337 never heard that saying before, but its so true.

  • I just watched this episode and was bawling the whole way through....This show makes me cry more than any other I've seen but I love it so much.

  • Scrubs & its writers did a fantastic job of incorporating humor with at least one resounding lesson each episode. I miss that.

  • I remember this song and how hard it hit me in during this scene. and then Grey's Anatomy played it and it became "their" song. Scrubs was brilliant. Zach Braff was brilliant.I miss the show. Or at least the first five years.

  • Still makes me cry

  • what episode was this?

  • @foodog8737 My Lunch

  • @foodog8737 season five episode 20

  • Fun fact, when Dr cox starts knocking things around, it wasn't actually scripted.

  • So good... When Dr. Cox says, "You're right" it says that he's been gone for a long time... Most moving scene out of Scrubs in my opinion

  • docter cox is one my favorite actors in scrubs

  • Do know what i lov about this program, is that it's so funny, the acting is amazing in my opinion! However it's not like all those normal comical USA shows, it portrays real emotion! The sad very well acted and directed scenes like this is what separates the show. I'm not particularly an emotional person, however, even in scenes like this i get drawn in by the song and acting! Lov Dr Cox and JD!

  • One of the most emotional moments ive seen on tv ;(

  • what's astounding is when Scrubs did this; most of the time the actors are just kicking around and being hilarious and tongue-in-cheek, but the second the script changes to a serious vibe they really show what incredibly talented actors they all are.

  • sadest scene was at the end of season8, when jd walked out the hospital, and he was thinking about what the future would be.... what was the sadest!!

  • Did he died?

  • im a nurse in icu dealing with dying patients everyday trust me you'll get use to it. we just discuss death over a cup of coffee like a daily event on news

  • @checkavailability175 That could very well be the case, but I could imagine that it still doesn't help much when someone you care for dies, especially if it was your fault. If they haven't said a word to you, yeah that I understand.

  • Amazing acting from Dr. Cox!

  • doctor cox played his character so good

  • when*

  • you know shit goes down we dr cox is crying

  • John C. McGinley is an awesome actor !

  • Who is the guy who died?

  • @KashMan96 It was one of his patients that had been waiting on a kidney for a long ass time. The premise of the episode was a lot of people were dying and needed organs and some woman died so Dr. Cox was like "YES organs lets save some LIVES here, people!" This patient was among them. Turns out, the lady who donated her organs had rabies, i think it was? One by one, every patient who got those organs on Dr. Cox's order....died. He was hanging by a thread until the one shown died.

  • what episode is this in?

  • @pauls3world1 season 5 episode 20

  • The song makes this top the list of saddest moments over Ben's death for me...

  • John C. McGinley is a masterfull actor (Dr Cox) Period.

  • This was such a sad episode, so painful :(

  • BTW, has anyone else noticed more scrubs actors are hitting the scene. Turk is gonna be on a tv show now and I've seen cox on a couple commercials. Not huge but it's a start, RETURN OF SCRUBS SEASON 10???? (with the actual good characters from 1-6)

  • @7DJS7 no

  • Definitely a good moment but for me it's a big toss up between this and bens funeral, I don't get emotional over tv shows cuz I can't get past the fact that's it's fiction but I felt a shade of sadness in that episode, this one I felt the music played half the part in that it's so appropriate

  • the only thing that ruins this is that the door swings back open :/

  • John C. McGinley is one of the greatest actors to ever walk this Earth

  • @Mobizzle23 I have to agree with you on that.

  • this song is perfect for this clip

  • So sad :(

  • Ever noticed that some of the most powerful scenes feature Dr Cox? He's such a brilliant character, and every time he breaks it's so emotional and heartbreaking.

  • Trust me. This is the reason Cox's personality changedo n the show from here on out of the show.

  • New Scrubs doesn't have anything like this, seasons 1-6 were the best

  • @Hyperactiveheadshot Yeah, i agree there isn't really any moments like this in the newer ones. I mean when Dr Cox says "Yeah, you're right" and shuts the door behind him, that's probably one of the most powerfull moments in all of Scrubs. However i liked season 7/8, they were'nt the best, but they were still brilliant. I just wish they had finished Scrubs on the showreel of JD's future life as that was a very good way to end it. Unfortunately the writers couldn't see that.

  • @mufcmad11 I watched season 7 but haven't seen season 8 yet. But from the clips I've seen from season 9, I don't see the similarity of new scrubs and old scrubs

  • @Hyperactiveheadshot The problems with seasons 8 and 9 was that they were trying to groom the protege interns(Denise, Sunny, Howie) to take over in 9's "Med School" spinoff. The problem was that the transition was messy. Too many stories were still about the old characters and when it came time for J.D. Turk and Cox to pass the torch you just didn't give a damn about any of the new doctors. Then Season 9 added interns the new guys were training and it was just two layers of not caring.

  • @hisemtuks That's spot on.

  • @Hyperactiveheadshot Long story short: don't watch season 9. Ever. I felt that the only good part of season 8 was the finale; it was done beautifully, but the rest of the season is kind of lacking in humor. Still gets a recommendation though, just to finish off the series.

But seriously. Don't watch season 9.

  • @DarkkBlueWolff I never plan to, season 9 is pretty much a slap in the face to all the people who watched seasons 1-6

  • @Hyperactiveheadshot what about 7 and 8

  • @HillBillySantaClaus I've seen season 7, I think they still tried to hard to be funny at points. Haven't seen season 8 yet.

  • The moment in which Dr. Cox, Gave us hope, made us scared, left us speechless and left us for good.... can't believe that was all under two minutes.....(Than he comes back in two/three episodes :/)

  • Still hits me to this day.

  • I actually looked for "Saddest Scrubs moments" after seeing this scene on TV and ended up here immediately.

  • @Peonsarepeopletoo same thing here

  • nup... ben's funeral takes the cake...

  • i cried like this if you did too!

  • when dr. cox puts his hands on him at 0:07 , then when it zooms in his arms have moved positions lol

  • can somebody please tell me which seoson and which serie is this please

  • @thisiskubi its season 5 episode 20 its called my lunch

  • @springbok333 thank u very much buddy

  • i cried when i first saw this

  • @timer78971 so did i

  • Scrubs wrrters and producers did such a good job with their music choices. Combined with the good acting it really makes for some quality scenes.

  • @nickmate69 It was Actually Zach Braff that chose all the music it just shows what good tastes in music he has

  • @nickmate69

I was just going to comment about how terrible the song is...

  • what is the name of the song? somebody can told me?

  • @naruto789456123roc You sir, have failed.

  • @naruto789456123roc

    how to save a life

  • @naruto789456123roc ... That's a massive fail if you don't know the tune. But it's The Fray - How to save a life.

  • I don't think I will ever watch this and not cry! Such a beautiful scene

  • Gives me chills every time I watch it.

  • This is why scrubs is the best show ever made in my opinion, only thing i could fault is the door not closing and swinging back open when Cox shuts it

  • ABSOLUTELY, I'm not even gonna lie, I cried for days after seeing this scene.

  • which episode is this?

  • @zombiespecialist My Lunch. Season five I think

  • one of those scenes that you have to cry to. sometimes, it gets so sad, it's almost like it's not a show. it's really happening. that's what makes the scrubs cast so good. that's what makes this show so amazing. that's what makes us get emotional over a comedy

  • i cry every time i watch this bit!

  • this is why scrubs is one of those shows that will always be remembered, its hularious, outragous, totaly insane! but when the reality of hospital life kicks in it can be an emotional turnover for any veiwer. watching such a strong person like Dr. Cox break down tears me appart. thank you scrubs. you will always be remebered for these moments. X

  • What sucks is that you're in the middle of tearing up when you realize the video is buffering and you realize you are crying at the spinning wheel

  • @InescapablePain yeah like on youporn when you're cumming and it's buffering and cumming to the spinning thing is awful...

  • @RicOf1213 i know your pain man

  • @RicOf1213 why? why say this?

  • I LOVE J.D <3

  • the combination of the fray, dr. cox's caring doctor side, and the intensity of the moment was just sheer perfection, couldnt have asked for a better moment in tv

  • amazingly written and acted show. The funny parts wouldn't be as funny if we didn't see the emotional side of the characters.

  • John is really great actor

  • SCRUBS!

  • Dr Cox is like Captain Kirk. He dodged and cheated death his whole life, but never had to face it directly.

  • I bet Dr Cox's tear would be able to cure Cancer and AIDS all at the same time!

  • THERE'S NO CRYING IN COMEDIES!!!!!!!

  • i was 15 when i watched it and i cried, wouldnt admit that to any other show. Scrubs will always be the best, i felt so bad for Coxy!

  • He left when his shift wasn't over, isn't that a felony in the real world?

  • @Axoliien ...No?

  • zach braff is a fucking moron

  • @jgcfc58 Please, say your stupid and based- on nothing stuff elsewhere, not in THIS vid. This is an sad vid, and your like... Just back off will you?

  • Which season is this?

  • @UranasaurusRex season 5 episode 20 "My Lunch"

  • LOL this show is funny.

  • @BernieRunns this part ain't...

  • @efs5030 Word, even thugs cry to this one ;)

  • @BernieRunns wrong video to place that comment..

  • @BernieRunns And you say this in such a sad vid?! Timing is all, my friend.. Timing is ALL

  • @BernieRunns Wow you're such a dick

  • @BernieRunns You know what's more fun? You having cancer.

  • @ZeDuality Excuse me if i'm wrong but did he say this scene is funny, he said "this SHOW" yes the timing was wrong but that's not a fucking excuse to wish cancer on someone. You should be ashamed of yourself, honestly i'm more offended by this comment than his.

  • @KarayKaz And I wish I was a fish. That and some 200-300 outrageous comments are what happens when ones laptop gets stolen. Hope you enjoyed your moment of glory there ;)

  • @BernieRunns Yeah, but this scene is not funny..

  • @BernieRunns It is, but why did you write that on this video? It's like the saddest video!

  • Ewwwwww he put his contaminated gloves on the table.

  • Anyone else get all tingly when watching this scene?

  • The only thing about this show that bothered me was that JD never killed anyone.

  • @heymrk He has, though...

  • @VanillerFaart No, people died around him, but he was never the direct reason anyone died. There were a few episodes where they talked about him having never killed anyone.

  • Song should be "I don't know how to save a life"

  • This is one of only two series I have more than one season of on DVD. I had to play catch up since I didn't get into it until about halfway through.

  • fuck I hate this song

  • Maybe if they took of those two cheddar cheese slices the dude wouldn't die..

  • Scrubs is one of those shows that will age like Wine as it's remembered. A truly epochal series, the Mash of our generation.

  • @TheAwakenedHeretic The Mash of our gen...fuck off.

  • @jeffgorchynski LOL if you don't like my point of view don't read it. That show had one the largest audiences ever for the finale and had a very similar motif. Read what the creators of the show had to say about inspirations. While starkly different there is the same recurring underlying theme. Oh silly youtuber. I would pat you on the head.

  • This is the only instance I can tolerate a song by The Fray.

  • It's okay doctor cox. I hope doctors everywhere care as much as you do

  • @areckelh they dont, we lol when you guys die.

  • @bustaphatty well shit. At least that means my death might be funny.

  • ....i agree that is probably one of the saddest scenes in the season but episode 169 was the one that reached out to me the most

  • @baarent wha episode is 169? what happens?

  • who would have known such a soft song could be so powerful..

  • That was a great episode.

  • what episode?

  • I think it would of been a nice touch if Dr Cox called him J.D at this point.

  • Gives me chills every fucking time.

  • fuck I'm watching the series for the fourth time and this and laverne scene keep getting me crying

  • what episade is this? i love emotional stuff district 9 makes me feel emotional.

  • @squidless32 i think its called my broken hero or something along those lines

  • this scene always make me cry

  • I'm crying watching this D=

  • i cried during this episode. :'(

  • Comment removed

  • i admit it .. i cried like a lil bitch

  • This episode seriously made me tear up

  • The first time i saw this i cried.. Thumps up if you also cried!

  • the saddest moment and he still keeps calling him a newbie LOL

  • @Benderrr111 Because I think it's his serious name for him. Otherwise he'd be calling him a girl's name.

  • sometimes life really knows how to put its foot in your ass

  • Shivers

  • I like these moments when you forget there acting because your so into it.!

  • Scrubs had the best acting I have ever seen in a movie/ and or TV series. They captured all the emotions perfectly. Rate the show a 100 out of 10. Can never ever EVER get better than Scrubs. Miss it so much.

  • AAAARGH!! I instantly regret selling my Scrubs box sets!

  • This and the episode after are my 2 favorites...

And if anyone wonders, this is in episode 20 of the 5th season "My Lunch" =)

  • The song How to save a life was so fitting in this scene.

  • 33 people died in sacred heart!

  • the fray was just MADE for this XD

  • The thing I like about Scrubs is that it has both drama and comedy and they're both balanced perfectly.

  • John C McGinley truly is one of the most underrated actors ever. Legend.

  • This episode was on comedy central yesterday...still have tears every time I see it...Dr Cox <3

  • a lot of shows have tried to use "how to save a life" in an emotional scene. this is the only time that actually made me feel sad. such a great scene.

  • Comment removed

  • "He wasn't about to die was he newbie? Could have waited another month for a kidney"

That line topped it off for me.

  • I miss when this was the first thing that came to mind when I heard "How to save a life"

  • HAHAHA THIS IS FUNNY xD

  • the reason why i love this scene is that perry is just like my father, u never see a tear or some kind of weakness, and suddently one day it is just to much for him and you actualy see his whole world crashing down

  • 1:26 door fail

  • i always get choked up with this scene, its like theres a lump in my throat

  • Man, i forgot how great that episode was.
