  • I don't think I will ever hear anything as profound as the last 2 minutes of this clip spoken in my lifetime.

  • I have to say thanks to whomever posted this video. It really is Hitchens at his best. The latter minute containing my favorite Hitchens quote. I sincerely hope that all religious people can recognize the selfless morality in this brilliant man and that they are all the better for it. THIS is what goodness looks like, for its own sake, not fear, or reward, or tradition.

  • incredible man ,the ignorant masses of course would'nt understand.

  • Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let your perpetual light shine on him.

  • @justinstroh you are an arrogant bigot, and extraordinarily ignorant

  • @wowzabowza123 Peace be with you.

  • @justinstroh It's not perpetual you retard. Do you not even know the fairy tales from your own religion?

  • @frankvonfrauner Perpetual = forever. That is my Faith. You are welcome to read the Catechism.

  • @justinstroh No. That's not your faith.

The light is for the world. When the world ends during your apocalypse, the light is gone. The first words of the book you never read Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." Light wasn't until 1:3

Has a beginning and an end. Not perpetual.

Not to mention that it specifically says that the night is the darkness. Of course that comes from a lack of understanding about the rotation of the earth. Its always light and dark

  • @frankvonfrauner Perpetual Light we refer to is spiritual. You refer to physical light. The Book of Genesis is an analogy of our origin with facts about our relationship with God. Read the Catholic Catechism, it will help you form your arguments. In it you will find more reason than you think.

  • @justinstroh Look at your clergy.

  • @frankvonfrauner I do. Arguing from the part to the whole?

  • glad his useless comments are done...

  • @JustinAlexBeers Your Brainless you Bitch...

  • @JustinAlexBeers If you got nothing good to say about this man then perhaps keep it to yourself because you got nothing useful to say.

  • @JustinAlexBeers Why aren't yours?

  • Requiescat in pace

  • I like how much people act like they give a shit about Iraq.

  • So who is this guy? ....

  • @amodking Legendary Christopher Hitchens, one of smartest and most famous world's atheists.

  • @HNK222

Go fuck yourself. The man had more intellect in his left index finger than your entire family lineage.

  • @HNK222 I think you have him confused with someone else.

  • @HNK222 tut tut tut, hitch is a legend, you, wee man are a leg end.....

  • we lost a great one everybody

  • Now I know how catholics must feel, when their pope dies.

  • What a wonderful speech. Hitch may have passed away, but his ideas are solid and well engraved among the minds of free thinkers worldwide. Thanks Hitch for your enormous contribution to mankind's intellectual and moral advance.

  • i'm really gonna miss this guy.

  • Was this Hitchens last debate??? If not, where can I find his last debate???

  • Christopher Hitchens is immortal in the works he left down to us. But those who met him know that it was not a disappointment.

  • By far my favorite ending to a speech.

  • I don't want to go to heaven to meet Shakespeare; I want to go to hell and meet Christopher Hitchens.

  • RIP Sir

  • Do not mourn for the death of this great man. Let us celebrate for he walked among all of us, became part of our lives and instilled much knowledge for our generation.

Christopher you did not die because you are immortal in your works. Cheers to this wonderful man!

  • @eldrinirdle well said.

  • I will not say rest in peace. I love the man and the message! He is whence he came, as we all shall be.

  • RIP Hitch.

  • RIP Christopher Hitchens, 1949–2011

  • I heard hitchens past away and I had to see this video again. The end of this debate is one of my favorite Hitchslaps, as it were. I am crying :'(

  • Hitchens has just passed away.

  • My uncle had a form of throat cancer. I don't think it was quite the same as this. I'm not sure, but anyway, he lasted 5 years. I hope Hitchens gets better.

  • Mo. Teresa was a fraudulent.

  • I gotta' say, at first when I heard a couple of clips of him a while back I wasn't quite sure what he was all about; I liked what he said, but it was almost a "meh" feeling. After listening to many clips of him and full debates, I now see why he is one the "horsemen", haha. He is absolutely brilliant in so many ways. I really liked his debate against Craig, as he made such an

incredible impression on people in regard to what atheism truly is and what it is about.

  • From my family to yours much love HItchens your voice will continue to live on through your written word and lectures that I plan to share with my children someday.

  • The last few minutes would bring a tear to a glass eye.

  • You can see the luster and brilliance of this mans mind through his scalp!

  • Is it possible to put humanism in a nutshell better than this man?

  • One of the great thinkers of our time. Much love from my family goes out to you mr. Hitchens

  • That is why you gotta love Mr. Hitchins. Well argued, eloquently delivered, thoroughly logically consistant. Get well soon, Christopher, we need you to hang around, we really do.

  • Continually impressed and enlightened by Hitchens (wish we had thinkers like him in Texas:-)

  • @Faustus, it's Christopher. He prefers not to be called Chris.

  • Mr. Hitchens is a brilliant, eloquent force of nature. Even when I disagree with him (which is rare) he's always been one of those people who can make me rethink my position and refocus my worldview whenever I hear him speak. He can be overbearing and insufferable but he is living in a world where we glorify intellectual and moral inferiority as cultural achievement. It's got to be difficult to be so acutely aware of humanity's potential and also know that it will probably never be realized.

  • GOT TO LOVE CHRIS HITCHENS

  • Hitch is the best - fan from Norway!!!!!

  • My hero is losing his voice due to esophagus cancer. We might not ever get to hear his voice again. I just hope he doesn't lose his life, but as an atheist I know the universe doesn't owe me any hope at all. So lets just enjoy w/e time we have left with him and enjoy life.

  • Ron Paul 4 President 2012...END THE "PRIVATE FEDERAL RESERVE BANKING CARTEL AND SHUT DOWN THE IRS!!!!!

  • @JASONANDTRACI SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!! Ron Paul is a racist quack. Not even the party of racist quacks takes him seriously. What does anything on this page have to do with that unctuous civil rights-loving but Civil Rights Act-hating, anti abortion anti-environment fanatical capitalist carnival barker? This is a Christopher Hitchens video you unoriginal solicitous hack, go back to watching "9/11 truth" videos and cleaning your gun.

    ... Bernie Sanders 2012!

  • Like. Like. Triplelike! Awesome - the man's such a wonderful speaker. His words will live on, while the words of Bronze-age maniacs will die of meaning and become a topic of humour and derision for future generations. Get well soon Hitch, much love.

  • @ERROLCUSTERFLYNN4EVR … actually you have cancer too! You just haven't noticed yet!

  • Religion has outlived it's usefulness. The few benefits are now FAR outweighed by the atrocities committed in it's name. It is time to put religion away with all the other toys you outgrew as a child.

  • yay

  • Catholics are so against contraception and abortion for the sole reason of increasing their numbers. Don't be mad, it is the truth. It's not for some "higher moral ground" or other bs. Other sects do it too. One example is polygamy with the Mormons. It is what it is.

  • Hitch's closing section gave me goosebumps.

  • It is sad to see people such as himself dying of cancer (of course to say, anyone who suffers from it deserves our utmost sympathy) when there is indeed a cure... It's ashame though that lies and deceit have kept it so hidden. Just look up "run from the cure" and you will know.

I tried to put it forth to Christopher in his discussion board, but sadly to no avail. Perhaps others can view it at least to see what I mean, or in the very least, to be amazed for an hour.

  • Hitchens has woken the world up to the sheer stupidity of religion. He has inspired millions and his death (like a jedi) will only make him stronger. Religion is running for hills. Fucking hooray! :)

  • the future of humanity and civilisation relies on people like hitchens staying alive and fighting against religion

  • died in vain lol

  • only one who truly treasures life and belief that he is alive would take his own life upon his own hand, denying any intangible, thought-up entity of the honor of having had a part to play in this precious life.

  • the ironic thing is hitchens is more of a saviour to the world than jesus christ himself, who in turn sparked religion which poisoned the earth

  • Thank you for posting what has got to be the best Hitchens closing argument for free thought I'v ever heard.

  • Bloody champion!

  • Hitchens says that he sees people all over the globe helping the poor for charities sake which seems to him superior to the charity done by Christians because it's not about handing out bibles. Does he not understand the meaning in the bible that says, "Give with the left hand without telling the right hand?" Does he really believe that Mother Theresa did nothing but spread filth on the planet? Let's get real; food kills people when not used correctly...does that mean it's evil? Peace.

  • looks like he is getting better

  • @sufianansari7 Sadly no.

In his latest Vanity Fair piece ('Unspoken Truths') Hitchens revealed that he is losing his voice. We're not likely to hear him speak ever again.

  • @csquared2008

Well thats very sad, he can still write though

  • Hitchens, like Shakespeare, will himself remain "Immortal in the works he's left behind." With his failing health one assumes he knew it was time to deliver his final message to the world. I hope for an encore, but as finales go - a masterpiece.

  • @csquared2008 damn... and you know that those sick christians are going to turn this in to something stupid in favor of religion, that he lost his voice because he spoke out against god...=(

  • @csquared2008

Shit. All those cigs and drinks. Does a number on your throat / larynx in the end :(

  • @csquared2008 Why would anyone like this comment. He is getting worse and some people actually like this. I feel awful that he is getting worse. Extraordinary men like him should especially live long uninterrupted lives.

  • @csquared2008 For those who thumbed up your comment about Hitchens not speaking again, a loud clear true msg to them "NO god"

  • @csquared2008 In my heart of hearts I hope you are wrong

  • @csquared2008 Hitchens was at the Texas Freethought convention today and he was speaking again. I haven't heard any details yet.

  • @ProfessorYumYum This is wonderful news. Looking forward to the details.

  • @csquared2008 I sure hope he pulls through.

  • @csquared2008 Have you heard the details yet? I want to know how he's doing.

  • @resparee Yes. Hitchens spoke, eloquently as always. It was of course the highlight of the convention. U might be able to find the video on here.

Hitchens also declared that he is dying. That's the harsh reality of his condition.

  • @csquared2008 Honestly I think Hitchens could simply stand silent at the podium and still win a debate against the majority of theists.

  • @uniteordie1

    Interesting admission on your part.

  • @sufianansari7 LET'S HOPE!

  • This is his best? How embarrassing! lol

  • @virtualguitarist You are exactly the person he preaches against, you are nothing in comparison of Christopher Hitchens and never will be, this is man is an example of the potential that humans have, and yet you mock him as though you are his superior, a truly sad existence you are.

  • @virtualguitarist You are exactly the person he preaches against, you are nothing in comparison of Christopher Hitchens and never will be, this man is an example of the potential that humans have, and yet you mock him as though you are his superior, a truly sad existence you are.

  • @virtualguitarist right, exactly what i did when i read you first comment.

  • I've never been inspired by a public figure, ever. Until Hitch.

Utterly implacable. It will be an international tragedy when he passes. I'll do everything I can to live up to his humanist standards.

  • He posesses the qualities I expect leaders of peoples to have. I recently watched him debate whether religion is a force for good in the world, and poor Tony Blair was clutching at straws and came across as a bit of an idiot....I was urging him inside to just say ' ok, I concede the point, you win, Christopher', but No. And then I realised thow significant this is, that that man claims to be able to make fair unbiast decisions, and can command armies - but believes in a god. In 2011.

  • @Mantajourneys

I mean, was able to command armies...perhaps he can now, I don't know?

  • RIGHT ON !!! I just had a conversation tonight at Rite-Aid, about lying to children and the so-called morals in the Bible (like the story of Abraham killing his own Son, how crazy is that ), being a atheist for manny years now has made me a better person, Peace, Love, and Happiness, yeah Happiness ~ Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock

  • link for the full debate?

  • Yep ! To continue to teach little children this non-sense is wrong and immoral, what is wrong with religious people ?

  • Bless Christopher Hitchens. He is a freakin genius!

  • shivers.. what a beautiful way of framing his views. The comment on meeting Shakespeare is dead on, it would be a disappointment to meet dead poets in the afterlife, their work is whats eternal about them. Its wonderful to live in the same era as this man. Get well Hitch, we need you.

  • hitchens it would be an honor to hear you speak live

  • @glower125 humanists cannot be satanists by definition, since we don't believe in a higher power as our moral lawgiver.

And 'think for yourself' isn't even close to 'do what you want to do'. That is a gross misrepresentation of what Hitchens said.

  • @csquared2008 Just for the record, the Satanists (the LaVeyen Satanists anyway) are atheists, but its still not "Christian Satanism."

  • @csquared2008 Actually there's several types of satanism. The Anton LaVey one (you know the Church of Satan) is atheistic in it's nature and practice.

  • @csquared2008 Maybe humanists think humans can come up with their own moral code based on what we know and logical deductions based on that knowledge.

  • @csquared2008 Not so: Most modern satanism is atheistic (like La Vey's) and venerates the symbol of Lucifer as a rebellious force in favour of humans, like Prometheus. Your claim only works for theistic satanism or, as it's more generally called, devil worship.

  • @glower125 I can smell the bullshit coming out your mouth from my computer.

  • @glower125 in other words. You are so f*** stupid.!

  • @glower125 The most egregious part of your comment is your misplaced apostrophe in motto's. Lunacy is understandable and forgivable, bad grammar is not.

  • @glower125

for not being Christian, it's odd that your call is that he allows Satanists (mentioned twice)...

I think some1 is braking the 9th commandment.

  • @glower125 You fail at understanding things......watch the video again, try commenting without changing everything said in this video to suit your own failed attempt to make sense of something you obviously just cant.

  • @glower125 glower, I thought bearing false witness was a sin. You're a douche and I'm boning your mom right now.

  • *****!

  • I have yet to watch a Hitchens video that I did not enjoy. This is no exception!

  • @fshfacegurl Wait, does that mean that you DIDN'T like it?

  • Never heard a more beautiful argument for humanism than this. The man's mind is a treasure, long may it be admired and cherished
