80's Japan Fender Stratocaster 1984 ( E 9402XX )

yeah, I just refurbished my 1982-ish Jap Strat...freaking love it...paid 200 bucks for it in 1992, put in a used set of Rio Grande (muy grande) matched set pickups (70$), turtle shell pick cover, new electronics..old faded (gorilla vanilla) white..yellow nicotine stained yellow neck...beautiful guitar...whenever I take it out, people are like.. "WOW"...but when they HEAR it... now now! Better yet, when I PLAY it, it really shines...feels like an old friend... because it is.

I have a black on white 80's jap strat HSS..Schaller Floyd Rose..

Sounds as good as my 2007 american HSS.

@mrpupcake Well, what I can tell you is that the quality is at least egual... The Jap Strats are just as fine as the Us made ones...( not talking of signature series or custom shop ).... If you find a MIJ I would say go for it. It's worth every Canadian Dollar that you might want to spend on it. Good luck. When you get something let me know, post a video or whatnot. Cheers

@mrpupcake In 80s american Fender factory was closed and the only company making Fender-brender official guitars was Fuji-gen. So 80s Jap Fenders are the best, 'cause they're only 80s Fenders)

the posters are right.....the japanese strat is an outstanding guitar. At one point Fender was going to get rid of the american strats and replace them with the Japanese ones. And yes.....they are way better than the Mexican Strats (although the Mex strats are pretty good). Alot of people are not aware of the superb quality of the japanese strats, thus you might be able to find one at a good price

With E9 in serial number your Fender is from 1989 but still

the good E series. I'we got two contemporary from 85 myself :-)

Well I'm really sorry...The Guitar Center guys were indeed blown away but I did not got it from them.... If you want the real price I can give it to you.... USD 120 on Ebay...from somebody that had no ideea what he was selling. And really crappy pictures too. I took my chance and when FedEx came I went crazy... The finish on this guitar is UNREAL.... PS: If you can buy a Made in Japan Strat go for it. The same guys said they are better than MANY US made strats...:)))

Do you know if the mid to late 80's Japan contemporary strats with the painted headstock (usually black or red) necks with locking nuts are just as well built as the regular non contemporary and can be applied to a regular body?

highway one sss strat is one of the alltime best fender strats ever produced!

this is a fact and not some empty bullshit opinion! fender droped there prices on most of there strats last year (2009) the highway one sss strat did list for $1,130

and your cost was $900 to $930. the price is lower now so get one you wont be sorry!

This is sweet, this is creamy, wonderfull sound. nice purchase, you cant go wrong with that, japan instruments are as good if not better than their US conterpart for a fraction of the price.

Well it sounds like a strat. I'm unfamiliar with the amp you're plugged into, but it sounds like something I'd enjoy. I found one of these in my high school's band closet and I got to play it unplugged and I loved it. This gives me a reason to bug the school district until they give me that unused guitar..

Well you are absolutely right... Wayyyy better than the one Made in Mexico. Actually...I went with this Jap strat at Guitar Center Orlando...You wanna know what they said ? " This is the Holly Grail of the strats.... ".... I'm guessing they were impressed by the quality and the finnish on this particular guitar. It's great...I love it...
