  • been there. done that. but i would stop the spindle. move away from the tip then bring it back up. i used a Victoria vertical/horizontal. with the same machine i could do gear cutting as well. the good old days. sigh.

  • You never leave a precision measuring instrument on the machine, especially on your holding device be it a vise or clamp. Don't leave it near where you're cutting either.

  • @dearlysqearly The 250mm /0.05mm sliding calipers You call precision measuring instrument????????? For me the precision measuring instrument is any type of micrometer, dial gauge tool, gauge set bloks etc...

After work I clean my measuring instrument, but IF need, then I disassemble measuring instrument and clean it, then assembe and adjust it, so- no problem!

  • It sounds fucking horrible, stone your tool and apply some cutting paste...!

  • @richardpjbarnes Do YOU have any understanding about cutting speeds and feeds??? All sounds is normal for that old (~80 years old) milling machine! Also I used NEW carbide insert!
