This was a dreamteam. Watching these highlights brings a tear to my eye. Selanne will be gone soon along with Numminen. Salo is planning to retire at 36 in 4 years. Go Finland Go!

It's hardly a dream team when seven or eight players are injury replacements. Especially when one of the injured players is a Vezina trophy winner and the best hockey player in the world according to The Hockey News (at the time, that is).

Erm, compare Finland's perfect record in the 2006 Olympics going into the final against their 2002 elimination and 1998 bronze. You also missed my point. I know Kiprusoff is the greatest in the world and they missed him, but Niittymaki and Norrena played outstanding. I'm commenting on the future absences of Selanne, Numminen, and Kapanen.

1998? An awesome team that Pavel Bure unfortunately shat on with his five semi-final goals. Played the wrong goalie until the bronze game IMHO.

2002? A 1-2 QF loss against the biggest hockey country in the world is not exactly anything to be ashamed of. Especially when we didn't have Koivu.

@Etukumi This was still the best tournament from Finland ever. We were better than anyone, but we ofcourse went to lost for sweden, played a bad game in wrong place. But finland owned star-filled Canada and Russia with shutout. at quarters and semifinals. Tells you someting. I call this dreamteam too..

2006? Kiprusoff, Lehtonen, Väänänen, Pitkänen, T. Ruutu, S. Kapanen missing. Even Sami Salo got injured in the QF. It's not that I don't respect the team of injury replacements that beat Russia 4-0, it's just that my "dream team" would have easily done better :P

On mahdollista, että Kipperin ollessa maalissa Suomi ei olisikaan menestynyt niin hyvin ymsyms...
