Oh wow Bethintx your a great teacher. I think I can do this stitch as well. The way you do the shell stitch is the best one yet. I've been wanting to learn this stitch for a while. I tried following a book but had no success. Your way is soooo much easier. I am going to play with this also. Thank you, thank you. Do you have a website? Have a great day.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, it was very easy to follow with the video. I'm still practicing it, but will be making an awesome looking blanket thanks to you !! I find it quite simple to make, but a very nice looking result, especially for a beginner! I've only ever done boring single and double crochets rows and now I can do this one! I'll be looking for more of YOUR video tutorials, because you made it so easy for me to learn.
@red123828 You would have to find a similar pattern and look at that. I'm just showing how to do the stitch here. I have no idea how much you would need for a blanket.
thanks again Beth for the tutorials. I've been following your videos and can say that I learned how to crochet just by watching them and been crocheting for about 6months. you're right you only show a stitch but I've applied the videos to the patterns for the scarves which I've made. currently working on a shawl for my mom using the V-stitch which is very easy even for a beginner.
Hi Beth =) I am a week old beginner, and I have a little girl due December 26th of 2011, and I am using this pattern to create her a blanket. I did the multiple of 6 and added 3 with a total of 123 chains. I am on my second row of these beautiful stitches, and I must say these are soo easy to do after watching your video.. What I was wondering is if you coupld post a video on finishing with this pattern. Im just not sure how to finish it. It would be greatly appreciated... THANKS FOR THE VIDEO=)
I have finished with this stitch and now want to finish the blanket. How do you do the last row of this so that the finished edge matches the beginning edge? I am so puzzled with how to make them match. Please help! My new niece or hephew arrives today and I want to have this completed!
I would love to keep the ends as scallops but if I did that the pattern would still look different on both ends due to the beginning chain and single crochet row when I started off? Is there a way to mimic this on the ending row somehow?
@eamccune Well, you would have to make a chain of 5 to start. Then sc in the chain space in the top of the shell. then chain 3, sc in the next shell. do this across the row. end with a double crochet in the last stitch. Then single crochet across that. I'm writing this from memory , so forgive me if it's a little off.
Beth thanks for the great tutorial. I've been following your tutorials for several months. As a beginning crochetier, I 've learned quite a lot from your videos and can say that I've mastered the V-stitch thanks to your videos. Now I'd like to try the new shell stitch and will follow along.
@LockeyGirl This video demonstrates a stitch not a pattern for a complete object. I frogged it out after making the video. Some folks made scarves and blankets using this stitch. Perhaps if you Google an image search for simple lacy shell stitch you may see some things made using it.
I have been watching your videos for a long time and just wanted to let you know your videos are so good so well done and you are a very good teacher. thank you from all the wanna be crocheters,
@mustlovepink14 No. you have to make the chain a multiple of 6 chains, then 3 more. In other words, make your chain counting six chains at a time until it's the width you want, then add 3 chains.
i still dont get how to finish it off as a blanket?
kitkatNEF 1 month ago
@kitkatNEF You will have one end that is scalloped. but you can repeat the stitch on the bottom edge as well.

@eamccune Turn your blanket around. and work the stitch pattern across the bottom. Your ends will have a lovely scallop.
