  • take it easy we got the internet and the internet is forever

so the fat plumer is forever

  • I must admit, your final point, that is true, Kirby will never die, he has it all.

    The cuteness of Pokémon.

    The nostalgia of Sonic.

    The great adventures of Link.

He draws in fans from everywhere, Kirby is immortal!

He may never become the biggest of them all, but he will live for ever.

    ______________

On another note, I would like Pokémon to become the big one and become immortal, but I kinda find it hard to believe, they can't keep on making them forever.....I think?

  • We get it lollipop

  • Okay, this is actually kinda sad..I myself do not care for modern gaming. I have a Super Nintendo, and I play it more than my Xbox and my Ps2. Why? Because there are some truly unique games on them, games that are good and knew what they had to do, to be good before everything got tired, reused and unoriginal. And yes, this is coming from one your teenage fans. Also, we need more megaman games, MEGAMAN WE CAN'T LET YOU DIE!

  • yea no clue who charlie chaplain was

  • first of all f@#$ you i was born in 1994 and i knew more then half of those game characters at the end, i read comics and iam sure i could at lest match you with comicbook and game continuity. but apart of that good ep love all your work

  • Other M sucked.

  • 17-year-old chick... still read Archie comics.

  • The funny thing is that they TRIED making a third-person Metroid game at first but didn't like the results, so they switched to first-person (heck if I recall correctly Miyamoto was the guy who gave them the green light on that one after seeing it in action). But as they say, the Prime games (3 was closer to an FPS than the others though) are "First-Person Adventures". Other than it being Sci-fi I don't see how it is emulating Halo or any other FPS's at the time either...

  • It's sad really. I love me some Call of Duty, but I don't want Nintendo to fade into oblivion, or any other classic creative game devs. Honestly, I kind of hope Madden and CoD fade into oblivion when the Wii U comes out, and I hope it dominates the market along with some new Zelda and Star Fox titles.

  • im 17 but when i was 15 i had that for a year tho umm i was banging them both(if you`ll excuse my blunt and well just not carring for there feelings)

  • I'm a 20 year old female. (thus when this aired I was 18). I read LOTS of Archie comics in my day. They are still sold at grocery stores right beside those horrible little horoscope books.

  • Seinfeld

  • @bornhey is unfunny. As in check the TV Tropes article.

  • @bornhey Check out the "Seinfeld isn't funny" page on tvtropes. Same thing as he's talking about here.

  • I'd hate to live in A world where 'Hanna Montana', 'High School Musical', or 'Twilight' are considered 'classics'.

  • You'll never kill this motherfucker..!

    *Zooms in on Kirby*

    Tru dat.

  • Metroid other m was a terrible game

  • i miss crash :(

  • Also I don't think any of today's big long running old school franchises will die in the near future, because there will always be a retro market. The Pac Man series is pretty niche now but it still exists, this may or may not happen to Mario and Sonic but they will never be gone for good.

As for Kirby, the key to his success is the consistant quality, there are only a few Kirby games, but not a single one is crap, not even the spinoffs. More old franchises should follow the Kirby model.

  • And Sonic games still sell really well, so it doesn't matter what veterans think of the series as it is now because these new games are not made for them anyway, they are made for kids. That being said Sega ARE paying attention now and Sonic Colors has managed to please old fans and newcomers alike so if the series keeps following that model and it's done right things will look up.

  • As much as I love this guy, he takes his hatred for FPS games to pretty great extremes when he won't even give Metroid Prime some credit. I'm not a fan of FPS either but c'mon. Besides I don't even consider the Metroid Prime games to be true FPS games at all.

They have the same exact formula as the Metroid games of old, just with a fresh new perspective. But the platforming, puzzles, exploration, heavy emphasis on atmosphere over action, it's all there. It's still Metroid.

  • About the forgotten films thing, i have two words for you. "The Internet" I think its safe to say no matter how obscure a VG character is, its pretty unlikely that they'll drop off the grid completely

  • 9:53 I agree! Who could copy him?! Also his new reboot on Wii U!

  • Other M, what have you DONE to us!? I LOVE the Metroid Prime trilogy! (and it horrifies me that I haven't actually played the older stuff) I don't want to see this series die before I truly get a chance to appreciate it!

  • i beat the game in under 20 hrs and that with breaks for meals and a nap this was on the hardest difficultiy did i lose my mind yes did i fill empty inside when i got done sorta do i fell like killing someone after playing it NO do i want to go outside and act like a foul and pretend im kratos hackin away at zombie soilders yes why because you said it yourself real life sucks (espically in the military) but that is all i have to say thank you for reading this hopefully please message back thanku

  • 5 and its funny when a younger generation looks at me wierd when i talk about kamen rider or the original powerrangers hell even voltron but when i sit next to a guy from a older generation i notice that its a pleasent convo but keep in mind im only in my early twenties but let me get back to games yes there really is no challenge to games this day things are made to easy take a game like god of war and no im not destroying kratos the games were just to easy and no im not out to brag but

  • but to this point i find it hard to stay in touch with some of the clasics like bio metal i understand that the younger generation is most likly not know who crash or earthworm jim are but that is the cost of progression please dont take this the wrong way im not disagreeing with u im just sayin that things like this happen i only know who these characters, shows, and other things are because of those who were around me i mean come on i was watchin dragon ball and playin super mario when i was

  • dear gameoverthinker i have been following what you have said through all your episode and there is one thing I have to say YOU ARE RIGHT right now the gaming world is taking on a huge change, i am sad to say that i dont know some of those older classic games but i do know quite a few like twin headed dragon but in all honesty i thank u and my brother for keeping in touch with the roots of where gaming came from and know sir im a barly in my 20s but i still know who felix the cat is

  • CONTINUING: Also, I have heard OF Felix the cat from my parents. Oh, and I LOVED pokemon shows, cards, figurines etc. as a kid, but only until recently did I pick up a copy of White and I couldn't be more OC about it XD And I NEVER heard of those two, I'm more of a Daily Show fan. I only once played a Metroid game, the other M one, and I can't get past the Ridley boss and just rage quit.

  • CONTINUING: And to let you know, my first game was Mario kart wii (technically double dash at a friend's house) Which made a VERY good first impression, and my first Sonic game was Sonic Colors which also made me beg for more. I'm not a big fan of first person shooters, but ALL of my friends couldn't agree more. to be honest, I'm still that quiet kid in the corner who eats alone and still plays Kirby XD Oh, and that guy at 4:09 scared me :D

  • My name is James D. Mooney, 15 years old and is going into my sophmore year. Even though I haven't played a video game until I was 12, I now deem myself as a retro-nintentard. So to answer you questions: I have heard OF archie, I once flipped through one about that guy with the grey hat. But Scott pilgrim was SO far out there, I doubt Archie wouldn't make a good spin-off movie, assuming that there was more to the plot than THAT! :P CONTINUING...

  • Metroid Prime wasn't "me tooing" anything, it was unique-a 1st person adventure-not a FPS. It revived a dead franchise, and is regarded as one of the best games of all time.

  • @gunninlinguist Yeah, but Bob reflexively hates everything from a first-person perspective, so I'm not surprised he drew that conclusion about the wonderful "Prime" series.

  • @printthelegends Nope. He doesn't honestly HATE any genre, even sports. He thinks it IS the single worst part of the industry, but that doesn't mean he hates it.

  • I'm not a huge FPS fan, but the genre that birthed Metroid Prime and Portal is far from the worst to me.

  • I don't think that just Mickey Mouse was the reason that Felix is forgotten. This cat lived on from 1919 till 1995 and Mickey Mouse just hold 4-5 more years and Disney replaced him with Hannah Montana and other boring spin off series. The once famous Mouse is forgotten as well by most people. Now you can see him maybe in those shows for little kids who are learning... I don't know what they are learning, it just reminds me on the Teletubies (whoops, glad that people forget about them)

  • 4:31 OMG!!! It's felix the cat! I haven't seen him since childhood. I remember him on golden classic cartoons VHS box

  • 09:35 Do you really think I will ever forget commander keen? I might be in the last generation who will though, just became 23 yo. But my dreams are still influenced by him..

  • "You'll never kill this motherfucker."

    Long Live Kirby!

  • I'm 20 , just to throw that out there. Also, I have watched Felix the cat many times throughout my life, and would most likely have gotten into comic books if I had ever had access to more than Lady Death....I'm an old school trekkie, a dungeon master, and a happily married man. The odd part? I was literally the most popular kid at my high school. Times are changing in better ways than you know, Bob.

  • Surviving the test of time? So in 10 million years,(or next year, maybe? who knows...) when the Earth is no longer even in existence....? nvm...maybe some Alien culture will find records of the Mario Bros and build their society based on the Mushroom Kingdom... Anyways, point is, it won't matter the tiniest bit which mascots "survived the test of time" in 500 years when we're all living in a matrix-like virtual reality. btw, i hate halo, and i'm not raggin on MB. Don't troll me.

  • Uh, not really. It's one of my main gripes about the High School stereotype.

PS I know this is posted long after the video came up

PSS I did read the Archie comics, along with my dads X-Men collection :D

  • Damn, moviebob hit the Metroid: Other M speculation right on the button. Good eye, sir.

  • Teenagers are sluts now...

its a sad truth especially for us non sluts XD

  • Ha ha ha ha. Haa ha ha ha ha, oh man Past Bob. You have no idea about Metroid. Your innocence is adorable.

  • Forgot to say . Crash . Crash ... Crash Games make up the best parts of my childhood games , I mean when I was even younger . Crash Bash ... Such a time with my childhood best friend . CTR is my favorite racing game , I don't even like racing games !!! but CTR is !@#$% awesome !! btw a classic game for me as well is Metal Slug . My first shooter EVER . It is the reason I even try side scroll games . And about the episode - Mickey is a classic , sorry not anyone before him . I think he will last.

  • I'm 16 . Born in Europe , one of the countries from USSR . And I still know who is commander Keen , Space worm Jim is a classic for me . Mario and YES sonic are classics as well for me . I don't like Pokemon too much , but I consider them descent , I mean I love the pokemons , but the human characters of the series , not so much . And sorry Bob , you were the one who introduced me to Kirby so I don't know how much he will last . btw one more thing .What I think will never die is StarWars

  • 9:34. B.J blackowitz's son.

  • Last hurrah. Damn shame.

Unless Nintendo gives Team Ninja a good tounge lashing.

    P.S.

Yeah, nobody's killing Kirby. In Brawl the bad guy's reactions to heros like Mario was anger, while their reactions to Kirby usually involved dread.

  • @SiegeTF Kirby is the creator and the destroyer! The end and the beginning! XD

  • well, take in mind that i love nintendo, mario, zelda, yatayata, but

in later episodes, you say that you dont like 1st person shooters partly cus you dont imagine urself as being a soldier, and say that it's hard to imagine a bland no-face armored space marine (Master Chief) to be a memorable character, well, mario is a fucking short fat plumber from NY that can only motherf*** jump!, well, i dont me as being this dude, and , belive me or not, mario will fall, eerything powerfull will fall

  • well I know about mario mega man link and sonic and I only played sonic, pokemon (which didn't really impact me that much) and some mario games and samus which an accident on the internet opps. though most things before the 90s zip which kinda scares me because I keep hearing that the 80s are awesome (in comic and game standards) which is kinda of a downer and also I live in a tiny island called Ireland. oh and thanks for the good memories of earthworm jim, ah funny show.

  • Also Pikachu outlve Mario?

Compare each pokemon sequal to each mario game. Which one just does the same thing over and over again, and which one actually evovles with each title?

Mario, Mario lost levels 9ok this about on par with gold/silver) Mario 3, Super Mario WOrld, Mario 64, Mara Sunshine, Mario Galaxy. In each of those you can see drastic evolution and huge changes (except lost levels).

    Pokemon red/blue, gold/silver. ruby/saphire/ diamon/pearl balack/and white.

    rehases. Nuff said

  • @DuskBeforeDawn2008

The series about peaked with Ruby/Sapphire

Then there is a fuckton of spin-off stuff and side things that ain't worth shit.

Sure, I liked the cartoon when I was like 8, but I didn't keep on watching it.

I caught a recent episode a while ago, and it has either gone WAY down the drain, or that it simply never was as good as I remembered it to be.

It was like "Oh god, this is terrible, did I... Did I actually like this? Was it really this bad?"

  • I cant belive you'd joke about Kirby out living Mario. Hahahah no.

THe only way Mario is going to die is if the entire platforming genre dies, and when the happens kirby will have already been dead for several years.

Nintendos stars will last as long as they make good games for them, since they do evovle with the times. I suppose I'll worry when Shigi retires/dies, but if his sucessor isn't a muppet, they'll probably live on.

  • I feel sad inside, the only one I recognised in that last "who are these?" bit was Dizzy.

  • lol kirby

  • I agree with Smarty. Whilst many (read: most) videogame franchises may well wind up being stripped from the collective social memory, they will, now that the Internet exists, always have their Wikipedia pages, their "top ten underatted games of all time" lists and their YouTube reviews by ultra-nerds. Few people will remember them, but unlike the old silent films (which, being physical objects, simply wore out and were never replaced or were otherwise destroyed), they won't disappear entirely

  • Also, I wouldn't worry about the absolutely classic franchises being forgotten. Franchises that deserve to be remembered generally are. Just look at television, for example. Old, deserving shows like Hogan's Heroes, Thunderbirds, Bewitched, Lost in Space and many others are still fondly remembered by many. Of course, there are many more shows that have been forgotten, but I tend to think of Mario, Samus and the others as the Hogans, Darrens and Lady Penelopes of the video game world...

  • ...they may age, and the old-guard fans may have to work to ensure that the younger generation develops the same fondness for the characters that they feel (or at least know who they are), but they aren't going to simply vanish. Aero probably will (and indeed, depending on your definition, he already has), but Mario, Samus and friends surely won't.

  • Unfortunately, the Archie of today is Twilight. In this case the bland main character is a girl who has to choose between two equally hot guys, but the plot is the same. Who will <(nsert bland, somewhat attractive highschooler) choose?

  • I remembered archie...

  • 'Ello from another teenage fan. I have heard of Archie, but this generation has something way, way more unlikely and over-the-top in its romantic escapism that those of us who like it are far more dedicated to it: harem anime. Pretty much the same thing when you look at it.

  • Video games will never disappear, imo. We have the internet now. The majority of games will exist somewhere on the net.

  • I'm a fairly geeky teenager. I have very little social life and my life is built up of both American and Japanese comic books, MMORPG's and as you say 'hardcore games'.

As a manic depressive teenager, it's hard to make friends, so comics and games are very much necessary for my existance in my fairly pedantic life.

Oh, and speaking of girls and what not. Ha, yeah. Love myself a typical, big-breasted, typical man-fantasy girlfriend, but the chances of that happening?

    Haha, as if..

  • 80% of the movies before 1929 being lost is reasonable, because the film was extremely flammable.

  • Felix the cat here in Germany is known in a catfood ommercial, didn't even know that he was a celbrety long time ago^^

  • nope

  • Harold lloyd went to my highschool :D

  • 4:45 you think thats bad you should see Mickey's older brother Oswald

  • What's up with random sound glitches throughout the video?

  • @Sidnoea yeah it sounds like someone attempted to poop this video

  • archie sounds like a complete retard, sorry if i'm offending anyone here but seiously?! two girls fancied him and he just did nothing with either of them?

i'm 15 and what anyone i know would do in that situation is choose and if he gets it wrong just go for the other no big deal, at all

  • @Surfjockey Aha, dude, I'm 18 and trust me its not that simple.

During high school, by some miracle, I got a hot girl and a sweet, awesome girl with whom I really clicked, both wanting to go out with me. I chose the former, soon realised my mistake, we broke up, now the awesome girl doesn't want to talk to me. Gutted :(

tl;dr- I get handed awesome shit on a platter and I somehow contrive to fuck myself.

  • I believe that the character who will survive the trial of time is the one who is kept alive by it developers. A good example is Cloud from Final Fantasy 7.

Ask any Square fan today who is Ramza or Delita? Serge or Lynx? Fei or Citan?

Better yet ask around who is Rinoa, Kid, Elly?

Or ask any of those fans if they know anything abaut Squall history aside from KH series?

  • i loved felix the cat, and im 14

  • The thing about Kirby is.... well, quality over quantity, right? Kirby is meant to be an introduction game to both the Kirby series and gaming as a whole. They're not overrated, and definitely not overlooked. How do I explain this? The Kirby series is like video games based of cartoons for gamers. If you like it, you can't skip it, but if you're not into the stuff, then you skip right over it.

  • Nice ending I laughed for a good five minutes there

  • Archie's weird mysteries was thigh. And George Carlin kept on being relevant up until his death.

I think it's more subjective than anything.

  • POGEYMAN? YOU MEAN THAT GAME WHERE THE POGEY AND THE MAN COMES OUT OF THAT THING AND FIGHTS THAT FLARGLE FLARGLE

  • Nope, i can't relate to Archie at all.

  • I think I recognize the chick at the end, isn't she the "Amazon" from the "Golden Axe" series. It makes me sad, that was one of my fav Arcade Game Series growing up. T_T

  • Remind me to put my old discs and such in storage. XS

  • Karnov, (ubisoft) kid, can't say that I've ever seen that guy, Dizzy, Golden Axe?, no idea, I'm guessing Mighty Jack or something.

Now to check the comments and see how bad I did

  • I have to disagree with your view of Metroid Prime 3, it wasn't the FPS elements that made it awesome (sure doing them right was important) it was the puzzles and exploration, it felt a lot like first person LoZ in space.

  • Gordon Freeman for ever!!

  • i know felix the cat cause i have an old 40's vhs tape

  • Yes. You do have young fans.....like me. :D

    What's with the angry stares?

  • DIZZY THE EGG :D:D

  • Dude! WTF? I am 15! I know Archie! (well, from connections of the Sonic comic made by Archie comics). Stuff doesn't happen like this, and since i am socially awkward, i STILL know that Archie is a load of bull when it comes too the crappy teenage life i live. I miss Crash Bandicoot, he was one of my favorite video game . Crash Mind over Mutant and Crash of the Titans practically killed crash. How could you not at least KNOW Felix the Cat? At least know the character.

  • @tubeview96 dude same here

  • ur vids r awesommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmely funny......... bt wer is EP's 28, 29, 30?

  • There is just one problem with that... with the interenet nothing to very little will be truly lost to the world since someone will always have a copy. While the ability to digitize and store the shit.... if nothing more to hold a copy of it as proof it existed.

While this is nothing more then a bandage to a 4ft+ Masumune blade slice, it is atleast some comfort to know that the events that wiped out the original movies can't happen again, atleast Dam near impossible to happen.

  • 80% of the early movies were lost, but remember also that 90% of everything is crap. Early movies, and early video games, were small, cheap projects that were developed by a handful of personnel. Some good, some really good, and a whole lot of "meh" was the result. It's kinda scary, but not all that bad.

  • I, as a Metroid fan, I'm sort of through with the series. I got what I wanted from the 2D Metroids with Super Metroid and I got what I wanted from the 3D Metroids with Metroid Prime Trilogy, solely because it contained the first Prime with the updated control scheme. I don't know what Other M has to offer, but I'd be content even if the series died after it. Sure, if Other M turns out to be great and repeatable, then that's awesome, but I wouldn't mind a peaceful death for the series.

  • The games not be up to snuff, but Sonic isn't going to be dying anytime soon. As far as demographics go, while Sega should throw the old schoolers a bone every once in a while, Sonic is predominately a kids franchise, and a popular one at that. When Sonic stops selling, then yeah, he's probably on his way out. But Sonic games still sell as well as they've ever had, and the comic is still running after over 200 issues spanning 17 years. The hog isn't going anywhere.

  • One thing I wonder about is the short-lived (only three games) franchise of Sparkster, an opossum who's a knight with a jet pack (which by the way is awesome). Even though the franchise only lasted three games, the character continues to be a cult hit among many retro gamers (like myself). But recently, after SIXTEEN years without a sequel, another Sparkster game was made for XBLA and PSN. Could this be a phoenix rising from the ashes? I would like to know.

  • Okay, Superman is 60 years old and we're still making Movies and Cartoons of him, soooo yeah.

  • Mickey Mouse is relevant and still the face of Disney since forever.

Archie Comics are still being made, so kids know them.

Mario will never die. He's been doing the same thing for over 25 years and still remains relevant in the industry. His games still stand out.

Those "dead" characters people don't remember were dead when they were first introduced. They weren't captivating characters, nor were their games very good. Master Higgins, Bonk, Alex Kidd, Karnov to name a few.

  • Last I saw Commander Keen, his hanging corpse decorated a secret room in Hell.

  • Yeah really, what the hell happened to Miller!? Did he drink the Bush/Cheney cool'aide somewhere down the line when he had not been seen on TV for so long?

  • No one actually likes Master Chief. They like the game Halo and he just happens to be the main character and they need an embodiment for the series itself.

  • why does this video keep fucking skipping

  • i been thinking about that for a while and after seeing this video im really starting to think about it, who will remember the greatest game characters to me its a scary thought.

  • I miss Bomberman games. They had potential beyond the kid-friendly sugar that it stewed in.

He'll probably not get any revamp or new angles anytime soon, though. He will pass on, his place in V.G. History served, without any true merit or fame.

    Rest in peace, B-man.

  • I think Master Chief will indeed move on, but only because he was the face of xbox and x360. Think for a second, and when you think of either of these consoles, which games come to mind first?

Pretty much the same as Kratos for PS2/PS3, or more recently, Sackboy.

Mario and Zelda will live on further than Pokemon because they were the symbols of pretty much every Nintendo console ever, with the exception of MAYBE Gameboy~Gameboy Advance.

  • i freakin love pokemon. but i only like the games, everything else sucks. and currently i think there is about 15 pokemon movies

  • im one of the few 17 gamers who has actually played shit. i used to read archie as a kid at my cousins. genesis and nes were the first consoles i owned. i preffered sonic over mario because i found it easier also i love crash bandicoot

  • im only 15 and i recognized Karnov, Master Higgins, Commander Keen, Mappy, and Mighty Bomb Jack all at the end of the video, also most people nowadays still know who archie is.

  • Master Cheif will live forever though... don't thumbs down that you pathetic nastalgia whores. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it isn't true.

And who's acting like the new crowd doesn't know Mario exists? Who's Soap (Capt)? I know who Luigi is, who the hell is Soap? I like what rayodragon said: "Mario is the Mickey Mouse of gaming" This guy is KNOWN.

Fire Emblem will be like Final Fantasy in the history books. In 50 years they'll have their 20th game come out...

  • actually i wouldnt be surprised if final fantasy lived longer then the halo series. reason being halo is a fps game final fantasy is a rpg. halo is a bad series with a bad story that almost all of its most dedicated fans know nothing about in fact most halo fans couldnt even tell me master chiefs first name. since halo 2 you have been playing the same game excluding halo wars which is a crummy rts game because they bothered to release it on 360.

  • I only recognized Commander Keen at the end of the video.

  • @Cevian

I'm to think that's more the fault of marketing. Fire Emblem is a great series, but it's just like Enix and Dragon Quest. If it's not released here, it won't have a chance to BE popular. Then it fades while its competitors become bigger.

I for one believe the same thing. There's more characters who are fading from view. Let's think about Baldur's Gate and reminisce as WoW tells us the bigger stories. It's sad when more people remember Soap (Capt) than Luigi.

  • Your audio sometimes skips. You should take a look at it. Oh yes, and now that I think of it, I do wonder if Metriod: Other M will be the last Metroid game for a while if not forever.

  • Answer: if it sells very badly, then it might be the last for a while... but if it sells very well it won't be.

  • @marsgreekgod I hope it sells well. I'll probably buy it, if I have the money.

  • It looks like a good game, have you heard the reviews? sounds like it won't have to much trouble to me.

  • @marsgreekgod But according to Wikipedia, it's not coming out until June 27 in North America. How do people know how good it's going to be. Of course, it's most likely going to be good. This IS a first party Nintendo game, after all, and they tend to be good, even if it's being developed by Team Ninja. (I'm still weirded out by that. As long as there's no Metorid Extreme Volleyball game. Well, that will probably sell very well actually. People love fanservice.)

  • I'm part of the Pokemon Generation, and I still love the Mario games. However, one has to admit that Pokemon had a much larger world impact. I say that Nintendo's mascot is still Mario, but it's most well-known icon is probably Pikachu. Well, granted, I'm currently playing Pokemon Sapphire on my GBA, and I'm certainly not 8-12 years old, like I was when Pokemon first became popular, which means that I've been interested in Pokemon longer than what is considered healthy by some.

  • The best known Fire Emblem characters are the four that have appeared in Brawl, that's including the Assist Trophy. Granted those are all the main characters of the games they are from, but until Brawl there were 3 games out in America without a character in an SSB game and all most people asked were "ARE MARTH OR ROY IN THIS GAME!? They aren't? Well I don't care then." Now it's "Are Marth, Roy or Ike in this game?"

    It's saddening.

  • Not Commander Keen! D:

  • You know, this video reminds me of Pit from Kid Icarus.

Back in the day, he was as popular as Link, Samus, even Mario, or at least popular enough to cameo in a bunch of games with them. Hell, he was even one of the main characters in Captain N!

But now? Well, thanks to Super Smash Bros., people have ben re-introduced to him, and there's that rumored Wii game, at least.

  • The hell happened to episodes 28 and 29? I checked Screwattack's horribly broken search engine system and can't find them anywhere. And I also couldn't find their version of a youtube channel where I could find other videos by the same person as the video I'm watching. Can anyone provide a link or tell me how exactly I can get to them, if they even exist?

  • While you have a point, I'm not sure movies are the best example, with games you can have say megaman 1-7 then make several new games starting back at 1 and going up but now with an X. Movies are certainly not the same way. Though I know what you are talking about and I always wonder the same thing.

    Also Harold Loyd > awesome

  • If anything Other M looks like the "me too" game third person beat em up ala Ninja Gaiden and God of War. Prime might have adopted a first person perspective but it still felt very much like a Metroid game rather than your run of the mill Halo style shooter.

  • so i decided to check in yet again and still the same shitty choppy audio version. any chance that will get fixed? lord knows im not going to play it on that festering pile of shit known as the SA player.

  • i know janine garofalo as collette from ratatouille... does that count?

  • Who's Scott Pilgrim?

  • 9:29

Karnov, Master Higgins, Commander Keen, I recognize the character but not the name, Athena, Mappy, no clue.

Well, four out of six isn't bad. I'm surprised I remember any of them.

  • I know archie, i paused the video just to type that. Archies wierd mysteries came on when i was a kid. im 17 btw.

  • I never really saw Metroid Prime as a "me too" outing as much as an "anything you can do I can do better" outing

  • Even though Pokemon is my favorite franchize I hope Pikachu doesn't out live Mario they're both awesome but it brings my piss to a boil to find ot that most PokeNerds are more farmiliar with the shows and merchandise

  • Metroid Will be remembered FOREVER!

I loved Metroid Prime why must you hate on it so Moviebob D:

  • well... i'm not much of a movie person... im more into anime, but thats something i do casually

most of my time i play videogames (probably like 70% of it

  • Most of these titles live off of nostalgia. When the a generation that has grown up only on muscle bound soldiers, will they ever give anything else that tries to break the mold a chance? Lets face it, if you tried to pitch any of these retro games in todays day and age they wouldnt stand a chance. "A plumber that fights turtles? LAME. A pink ball that shallows things? GAY." Some video game franchises will always be around(at least I hope they will). Others might slowly drift away as we on.

  • Mario is the mickey mouse of gaming and in fact more people know who is Mario then the pope. I have kids and show them who is mario not master chief because they are 3yr and 5yr. Mario is for everyone Master Chief for mature. My mother that she is on her late 60 knows mario, my wife that doesn't know anything about Video games but she knows who's mario.

  • i want to see ep 28!

weren't you making stuff for youtube too?

    COME ON!!!

  • I'm 17, going on 18, and I grew up with Archie comics too. I think you should be targeting the pre-teen audience with that one.

  • KIRBY SHALL LIVE FOREVER!!! LOL very funny with the metroid creature and the headcrab from Half Life. Mario will last forever. You did a video earlier about nintendo having iconic figures and other consoles having all the same characters, i think that's true... maybe Ratchet and Clank... and Nathan Drake from Uncharted but who knows. I'm 25 btw

  • just turned 19 in october. love the shit out of this series. Sonic was influenced by both felix and mickey, Archie was the luckiest SOB on the planet, Crash is ALREADY basically forgotten, banjo and kazooie likely just blew their last chance, and halo is already stating to get destroyed by call of duty. pokemon has NO sign of stopping though, neither do sonic or mario. as for sonic though, people MAY eventually wake up to the fact that sega is just milking their favorite cash cow.

  • god damn it dude.......to think that people wouldnt remember crash bandicoot banjo and kazooie and others of my favorites makes me really sad......

  • Congratulations sir. I am 19 (turned this in November 2009) and you made me feel old. I read Archie when I was younger and Jughead too (you didn't even talk about him). I watched Felix. And I knew half of those games by sight at the end. I had a NES and played it when I was 3. And I read and collect issues of Sandman and Fables. All hope is not lost. Except for Donkey Kong. He hasn't had a good game since the Country series. I think he's dead sadly.

  • Damn character count...

Anyways, I'm thinking too hard on that.

Also, nobody uses the term steady. I honestly have no idea what that word means, and have never hear anyone else use it...

  • That's aside the point, though. As for your questions... no. First off, If you could ever get -two- girls to fight over your affection EVER, you're must be the most goddamn charming, good-looking person on the bloody continent. Secondly, yes, if Archie were living now a days, and was in more or less the same situation, he'd have more than likely have been dating both of them... or he could have just dated both of them and moved on to try and pork every other girl in school, but I'm thinking too

  • or been lucky enough to get both at once

  • As much as I'd like to believe Kirby will never die, I've yet to see a good game come out, starring him, for a long while now. And I mean LONG. Like, maybe I'm just blind here, but there were no Kirby games 2009 or 2008... and I don't think in 2007 either.

Also, I'm 14. I read a few Archie comics when I was a kid, and enjoyed getting up on saturday mornings to watch the tv series, which was fitted out like a mystery. Looking back on that tv series, it was actually a really crappy show...

  • @NoMoneyNoQuality actually Kirby has been going strong on the DS and GBA before that. Last year they remade Kirby Super Star and it was great!

  • 9:32-9:38

Karnov, Master Higgins, Commander Keen, Dizzy, Athena, Mappy and Mighty

    Bomb Jack.

  • Commander keen!!!

  • if Nintendo lost metroid the fun of this game will never dies, yes the 2d the 3d have nothing special

for Felix the cat is nothing to stop hem from the died

the cartoon is to simple and innovation ave consequences. but the game for the Nintendo console is super fun and one of the best of the console

  • just because the metroid series when into first person dosen't mean it lost it essence

  • The best answer for who will be remembered would be to check the scholarly journals to see what games get talked about more often in them. Right now, the Final Fantasy series is an example of female empowerment. The Silent Hill series is considered sexist. And the God of War games is considered an example of how could religion turn a man into a monster.

That is what I got from 15 minutes of looking at my school's website.

  • I'm pretty sure that Mario will still be the main mascot. Although Pokemon was so broad with their objects(cards, T.V, game, movies, etc.), they still got beat in sales by Mario. When you try to target more forms of entertainment and are still beat, you know that you are inferior in terms of popularity.

  • Your sound was messed up this episode but whatever...

  • You make a good point about who's been forgotten. The only character I recognized with the characters from 9:32 to 9:38 was Mighty Bombjack. (That is his name, right?)

  • you pointed at B-K and Castlevania. Since the Stamper brothers left and Rare was bought by Microsoft, the games have just decreased in quality, and even though the brothers didn't direct Banjo, their departure a few years ago definitely was a blow. The vehicles...good idea, but it's not a Banjo game. I can't see it ever recovering from grunty's revenge, pilot, and N&B.

By contrast, castlevania never had a single main designer, and konami's persistence finally resulted in a formula that worked.

  • Hi, i'm 15, and I recognized Archie as well as Felix the Cat (though I am an animation buff). Also, Adventure Island and Fantasy world dizzy.

The thing is, it's not even time that determines the future of franchises, it's what happens after the creators hand the keys over and retire. The biggest (best-selling) mario game that miyamoto didn't direct was Super Mario Land. 20 years ago. Not good. Also, kirby HAS slowly faded since Sakurai resigned his position in Kirby Air Ride's aftermath. :(
