Today so much is made possible by computers, and the conveniences they bring. The Blackbird is the product of human ingenuity. Its a true testament to what people can do, when they set their mind to something. Though it may no longer grace they skies, its legend has outlived it. To all who worked on and flew the Blackbird, Three cheers for a job damn well done.
above cont... ... "You have not dreamed of wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless falls of air... Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never lark, nor eer eagle flew And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod The high, untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God."
A-12 and SR-71 were before my time. Hats off to everyone involved. Placing this music with the most beautiful machine ever to take to the skies is pure poetry....pure FREEDOM.. I love it.
Some people actually think the curvature of development stopped after the development of this bird. I think thats very naïve. This bird flew in 1964, I dont think the guys at Lockheed Skunkworks went like: Okay guys, we did it, now were done for ever, nothing can beat this. No sir, following the curvature of development there has to be something flying that can leave our solar system. What I do think, is that they left the jet-engine behind after the SR-71 and used other means of propulsion.
Thank you so much, I really love this plane, and my dream, as a child, was to be a pilot of one of that wonderful planes, breaks my heart that these planes wont fly anymore, but i hope that the SR71 will continue in our memories.
This is close to a perfect jet as you can get and no one can say other wise

Thanks BB101... This sublime aircraft, music and video inspires me so... I can only quote the "pilot's creed' called "High Flight":
"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds, and done a hundred things"...

MSGT...When I was stationed at Camp Foster Okinawa in 1986 I was fortunate to see the Habu fly over head. It was the most amazing sight to see!

They ARE the best!! No one, as yet, has built anything that can get close to them. Not bad for late 50, early 60 tech.
