  • Mr. Booker T. Washington understood the principle of liberty that you work hard toward equality and not demanding equality through political means.

  • I haven't really studied Mr. Washington very much from this video he is so underrated for what he did in his life.

  • Thanks for the upload - I hope more people take a look at it. Washington was probably the greatest educator of the late 19th-early 20th centuries. He withstood strong criticism (mostly from other Blacks) when he argued that true freedom comes through education, not simply by demanding more rights. This is more relevant today than ever. I admire the first quote of his that you list at the end: "No man can bring me down so low as to make me hate him."

I appreciate your comment. Email me me your mailing address (on my website), and I'll be pleased to send you my Booklet, "Booker T. Washington - American Hero.

  • Thank you, takfam07 for your kind words. I couldn't agree with you more.

Let me send you a free copy of my booklet, "BTW American Hero."

  • Frankly, I think Booker T. Washington is the greatest and most enlightened African American hero thus far. It's a shame his message and example haven't been embraced more widely. I really think he had THE formula for cultural success. I understand that most blacks today probably wouldn't agree. But as an Asian American, I can say that Booker T. Washington is the one black historic figure I am in truly in awe of.

  • I also recommend looking at the video by Dr. John Henrik Clarke video on B.T. Washington

  • @kagerone Hmmm, you say that, "racism and slavery had nothing to do with education" ? You might want to get back to me after you've considered the imnplication of what you said. I would also be curious to know what sort of education you have ... and how the negative attitude that seems to have you in its grip is working out for ya.

  • This is a great man who built himself up. He withstood tremendous opposition (particularly from other Blacks) when he said independence could be best gained through education, not by simply demanding rights. This principle is just as relevant today as it was when Washington was alive. I for one am inspired by him and feel it's important to honor his memory.

  • Your video lacks snse when you say this:

that real freedom is how individuals choose to live their lives regardless of circumstance.

Your logic faulty. Depending on your circumstances, you have no choices in life. Booker T was a slave for w few years. He had no choice in that or in anything else.

Are people responsible for their actions & have some choices? Yes, but circumstances count & affect them. Bookr T was saying make the best of your circumstances; that's very different

  • @EBanonymous I hear you, but consider that Booker T. could have lived a life of bitterness and resentment. He had plenty of choice "in that (and) in plenty else".

He chose to do the best he could to bring himself AND others up.

Consider also, another hero: Nelson Mandela. In prison for what, 23 years? But he was unbroken. He CHOSE not to quit.

  • @ronaldacourt

He was also a former slave; his writings are understudied. I'm saying that true education is importan

Solomon Northup, Douglass, Harriet Jacobs, Charles Ball, olaudah equiano, Henry Bibb did their best. David Walker is another who advocated education. Most kids never even heard of them! That's systemic racism in education & the UN recommend a govt agency just to deal w/ it!

Africans have a history thosands of yrs old; it didn't begin w/ slavery or Massa Musa. Never Give Up!

  • @EBanonymous Absolutely agree ! - BTW's "writings are understudied." (That's why we're attempting to put all on our website - for easier access. Help me understand what you mean by 'true' education being important.

  • @peasah2005

Brother Booker T. Washington is one of our great heroes.

Brother Booker T. inspired us to not only be bright, but to be more brighter when it came to growing our own products and investing into our values.

Brother Booker T. got our people to build a self-help program to develop our own resources without others.

  • Very good video!(=
