I remember when I first saw that spider-man cover I thought cool cover but whats the big deal I know hes going to get out of it, but then I read the first panel. Ditko was a genius
this is the first time i've ever found jonathan ross endearing, seeing how genuinely moved he was after his encounter with ditko, although i still can't quite forgive him for being a cunt to rod hull all those years ago.
I was nervous when they decided to knock on his door against Steve's wishes. Made for a happy ending. I'm glad Stan came out okay - You always see backlash towards him & Whitout him where would Sidey, FF erc be? Basically a force for good . Lee, Kirby, Romita sr & Ditko are 4 comic legends & all of them will best be remembered for 60's Marvel - That is all. If you want to check other wors - It's there!!!
While I'm not the biggest fan of Steve Ditko's work I agree that he was a CRUCIAL development and popularity of Spider-man. Had that book been drawn by Jack Kirby (As it was originally supposed to have been.) there would have been a whole different vibe to it. Ditko was the PERFECT man for that character. The world of comic book lovers owes a great deal to him. (And Stan and Jack too.)
@qqrk1372 Yeah, I've read a issue of the original Avengers comics by Kirby where Spidey does make a small appearance and needless to say Ditko drew Spiderman better and found Kirby's version of the character a bit underwhelming.
@Elementa2006 Ditko was able to give Peter Parker the right amount of GEEKINESS and Spidey the right amount of CREEPINESS. he was the perfect artist for that book.
Thank you Mr. Ross. You've honored Steve Ditko's right to leave his personal interview with you unexploited to the end and that right there is journalistic integrity. Fanboys can learn a lesson from you. Thanks for proving me wrong. You're alright in my book.
I never liked Ross until I watched this documentary. He's grating, condescending and cheaply sarcastic on TV, but I kinda love him for his genuine enthusiasm and the efforts he put in to make this. Gaiman's so boyish! It's charming.
When I was 9 years old, Steve walked out on Spider-Man and never came back. I didn't understand what happened and waited for him to come back. I'd read the letters section and see what Stan said and the explanation was never enough.
Spider-Man/Peter Parker spoke to me. They made my life bearable, enjoyable. The first Spider-Man comic I ever read was Annual 2. My dad told me about Spider-Man and I didn't believe him. It was always Superman, Batman, etc. But Spider-Man was it for me. TY Steve
I believe that Ditko is credtied enough for his work. I really love his work and appreciate what he has done. He is Spiderman's co creator BUT I think that the person that comes out with the idea is the creator. What if Stan Lee found another artist to create the costume?
I thoroughly enjoyed this documentary. BBC is probably the best in the world for stuff like this. It was vindicating to see comics taken seriously for once. Thanks for posting this video.
I just spoke to Steve Ditko. He essesntially told me to fuck off! But in the most polite and firm manner I have ever encountered. Ok shall we go and knock on his door.
Rofl....the first rule about fight club is...you don't talk about fight club.Steve Ditko is like every genius a bit 'strange' and eccentric.Respect for his work and his choice to stay in the shadows. One of the best comic docu's ever btw.
yeah and Ross looked high:) lol.Ross has made tons of money presenting and yet he is humbled by Steve ditko, who isn't a major public celebrity.Just shows the level of respect he has for artists.

Neil Gaiman is to writing what Bob Liefeld is to drawing; a talentless prat who is far too undeserving of the fame surrounding them.
MiHiVidz 10 months ago
@MiHiVidz I don't see why you people hate on Liefeld's drawings. They are amazing. You tell me what the problem is with them.

@MiHiVidz Anywhere. I think he can draw pretty damn good, and fast.

@88riddlemethis He draws crap. He's a plagiarist punkass, and you damn well know it!

Yes Steve, I said, it was all worthwhile.
That was the best part of the whole documentary.
